Chapter Eighty-Fifth Suggestion
Nikki and Kinsley chatted in the hallway, waiting for Ryan to return before they left. After all, what needed to be discussed had already been talked about, and specific matters would naturally be taken over by Julius Stewart, the person in charge of Jenkins Film.
This circle didn't have many secrets to speak of, and over time, the agreement or conflict between Universal Pictures and Spielberg gradually got out. They didn't want to get involved in the middle, originally, they were worried that Ryan would be too young and reckless, saying something he shouldn't say. Unexpectedly, as soon as the atmosphere in the living room changed slightly, he quickly pulled them away.
Gwen's scream broke the peace of the entire building, and Nicole and Kim naturally heard it clearly, the sound coming from the direction of the bathroom.
"What happened?" Jin Silie asked in confusion.
However, the person she was asking had already disappeared into thin air. Nicole hurried to the corner in her high heels, but the dense crowd blocked her view, and all she could hear were the woman's shrill cries, which made her heart suddenly panic.
Could it be Ryan...
Nicole Kidman didn't dare to think about it, had already forgotten the demeanor of a big star, and was pulled and dragged through the crowded crowd.
"Ryan! Ryan!" Nicole's cries were laced with anxiety and worry.
"I'm fine, Nicole!" Ryan naturally sensed the implication in Nicole's words and quickly replied.
"Let me through! Let me through!" Nicole Kidman finally squeezed in, but the scene before her made her lips tremble and a chill spread across her face.
A girl with honey-blonde hair was clamping her hand over her mouth to stifle another scream, while the other golden-haired girl lay on the ground, wincing in pain and gritting her teeth, one of whose arms was still clutched in Rhine's hand.
Seeing this scene, Nicole naturally understood what had happened. After all, when George and Ryan were training, she hadn't been absent from the sidelines often. It was obvious that the girl had been slammed to the ground by Ryan.
"Ryan Jenkins, you're so bold? You actually dared to hit a girl?" Nicole was furious, and the scene had already attracted dozens of people. The news would spread like wildfire, no need to wait until tomorrow.
"Uh... that..." Ryan quickly let go of his hand, it was just a subconscious action, he didn't think things would develop like this, "Nico... I, just reacted on instinct."
"Hurry up and help her up." Nicole took a glance, that girl should be fine.
Ryan quickly helped Drew up, saying apologetically, "Sorry, Miss Barrymore, I overreacted."
Drew Barrymore rubbed her butt and glared at him, Ron Meyer walked over, the commotion outside had obviously startled him.
"Ryan, and... Drew, what can I do for you in my office?" He glanced around, and the crowd of onlookers immediately dispersed.
Gwenyth supported Drew while Nicole kept a close eye on Ryan as they followed Ron Meyer into his office.
"Ryan Jenkins..."
Nikki's gaze was like a knife, and Ryan knew that when she called out his full name, her anger must have been at its peak. Not wanting to sit with her and suffer, but also not good at squeezing positions with the two girls, he simply sat in the chair opposite Ron Mayer's office desk.
"Tell me, what's going on?" Nikki asked Drew Barrymore first to confirm she was okay before turning over.
Ryan scratched his head, haunted by thoughts from his past life. Some things were really too embarrassing to say out loud. Should he tell Nikki because Drew was harassing him?
"Ryan, you're amazing! Just a little while ago, the whole Global Building was in an uproar. Nicole rarely scolded him."
"I'll tell you then." Seeing that Drew also didn't speak up, Gwendolyn stood out and roughly recounted the events, still fairly impartial.
Drew Barrymore is fine, but Ryan's old face can't hold on anymore. What the hell is this? He was actually teased by someone, it's really...
"Ryan, you're getting more and more out of control, and now you've even learned to hit women!" Nikki's face was equally colorful. "Go apologize to Drew."
Ryan was also a bit ashamed and somewhat regretful, anyway, it's not glorious to treat a girl like that, and being seen by so many people, who knows what rumors will spread afterwards.
What's most important is not to look at the monk but the Buddha, since these two women have appeared here, they must be related to Spielberg, this side can all be potential allies, no need to fall out over such a thing.
"I'm sorry, Drew, I shouldn't have hit you."
"Never mind, I was also wrong about this matter!" Drew seemed magnanimous, but his eyes kept flickering.
"Ryan, after going home, you are not allowed out of your room before New Year's."
Nico issued a gag order, now it's someone else's turn to shine, thinking that even if biased, it wouldn't be this ridiculous, anyway, today is December 31st!
Ryan, however, didn't seem to hear him, his attention being completely absorbed by a script on his desk, which was placed in a file box at some distance, but the title on the cover could still be clearly seen - "Schindler's List"!
"Ryan..." Nikki was a bit on fire, realizing she had indeed spoiled him too much. Ryan made an apologetic gesture and walked over, fortunately remembering to ask the owner's opinion, "Mr. Mayer, is this the script? The script for 'Schindler's List'?"
"Yes, this is the first draft that Steven handed over to us." Ron Meyer nodded slightly as he sat on the sofa.
"May I take a look?" he asked tentatively.
"Of course." The script has been seen by many people in the industry and Ron Meyer is also very pleased.
Ryan sat back in his chair, ignoring the others, and began to flip through the script. His speed was very fast, but as he read on, his brow furrowed tighter and tighter. The script had only about a hundred pages, although the main storyline was the same as before, the content had been greatly reduced. For example, the scene of "clearing out" the Krakow Jewish quarter only had one page of plot.
Also, I don't know who the weirdo is, but someone actually annotated on the script that it's suggested to film in Polish and German to restore the original historical truth.
But most importantly, where did the brightest colors in the movie go?
If the film were shot according to this script, Schindler's List would not be different from other massacre films and would definitely be met with a cold reception by the audience. Without enough viewers, it also means that it cannot produce great influence.
Of course, this should be only the first or second draft of the script, Spielberg said he may personally revise the script.
"What's going on?" Spielberg's voice came, bringing Ryan back from the script.
He looked up to see Spielberg and Lucas sitting next to Drew Barrymore and Gwyneth Paltrow, chatting about something.
After listening to Gwendolyn's words, Spielberg's face was somewhat unbearable. For more than a year, Drew had finally gotten rid of his greedy mother's control, and his behavior had gradually become more restrained. He had even quit his addiction. This time, he brought them together, also wanting to pave the way for their future, doing his duty as a godfather. Who would have thought it would end in such a mess?
"I'm sorry, Steven, this is all my fault." Ryan had to speak up again, after all, hitting a woman was not something to be proud of.
"No worries, Ryan, Drew..." Spielberg seemed at a loss for words to describe his goddaughter and instead turned to Ryan, noticing the script he was flipping through - wasn't it Schindler's List?
Can he understand it? This is Spielberg's idea, Ryan Jenkins is indeed talented, but such a heavy historical subject matter, can he understand at his age?
"Ryan, have you read the script? What do you think?" Perhaps it was a moment of madness or perhaps he had fallen into the trap that many old Hollywood hands fall into, but Spielberg asked.
Although the other party spoke very politely, Ryan still keenly captured the hidden meaning.
Hollywood's old-school filmmakers, who have struggled for many years to achieve their current status, always look down on the new generation that becomes famous overnight. His conflict with Universal Pictures has its own reasons, and the other side is being quite polite by using this small issue to subtly embarrass him in a private setting.
"Yes, I indeed have quite a few opinions." In Ryan's eyes, this script was really nothing special.
"Huh?" Spielberg was taken aback for a moment, but then asked, "Can you say that again?"
"Of course." Ryan stood up abruptly and paced back and forth, "Steven, I don't know what you're thinking, but to me, this script has a problem with its stance."
Before Spielberg could change color, he continued, "The script's standpoint is completely from the Jewish perspective. What's the difference between this and other Holocaust movies? Even if it can't be completely fair, it should be written from a relatively objective and just angle to attract more attention rather than aversion."
Spielberg showed a thoughtful expression, nodded slightly, and this question was actually something he had considered, and it was also the reason why he didn't want to direct this movie personally for a long time. As a Jew, it's not easy to achieve relative fairness.
"There's more." Ryan continued, "The movie depicts the massacre during World War II, but there is too little content about the Krakow settlement in the script. No need to doubt, I have read many books and materials that record that history, I know what happened in Europe and the Far East at that time!"
"Since it's a massacre, these scenes should be presented with cold and icy lenses, which may pierce the nerves of many people, but can bring more shock, making the whole world clearly see the tragic drama that happened in Poland! This plot should be the most unbearable segment!"
Ryan flipped to the end of the script, where there were suggestions from the screenwriter and Spielberg's own notes. "Steven," he said, "looking at these notes on the script, you want to shoot this in black-and-white film, right?"
