Keeping a door open - While it might not work on electronic mediums permanently, couldn't I try a photo?
Firstly, I needed a photo, using an image I had on my desktop I swiftly took out the Poroid camera I had stashed inside. Using my ptop, I found a picture of an ocean near instantly. Flipping the camera over before pushing it inside, I pced the lens halfway into the water's surface before snapping a photo.
Pulling it back out I took the still-developing picture from the output before shaking off the water from my hand and the camera. Waiting a moment for the picture to develop enough before inserting a finger, causing the image to finish developing rapidly. (I wonder if I should mark that down as an effect?) Seeing the finished photo of an ocean of endless blue, “Yep, that’ll work.” Next was a small section of copper pipe I found with a few moments online.
Centering the pipe in the middle of the photo with the length sticking out about halfway the initial setup was finished. Holding the photo by the corners to prevent my fingers from entering I brought the experiment to the bathroom. The pipe remained stationary while I moved. Holding the photo over the bast tub it turned it over, nothing came out.
“Right, the time thing.” Since an image alone is static without my intervention the passage of time halted due to the medium’s limitations. (A photo is but a captured moment).
Putting my finger inside the corner of the image, my dispcement caused a small amount of water to leak from the pipe. This interaction did prove that things can come out from images indirectly even if the process required my direct involvement.
After leaving my index finger inside for five minutes, I checked to see if anything had changed. Removing it from the photo, I gave the back a flick to remove the leftover water inside the pipe. I waited anxiously to see if I was right. The seconds started to stretch on, I started holding my breath as a minute quickly passed, then another, and another. Despite the brief duration of just a few short minutes, it seemed like an hour before another small droplet of water escaped from the pipe. Giving it another couple minutes, another small droplet fell from the pipe, “Fuck” I wanted to be wrong, (I really did).
Open Door Hypothesis = True
On the bright side, this wouldn’t be possible without my direct involvement, and from how long it took I would need to keep a limb inside for some time before it sprung a leak. The problem with that is that doing so is incredibly exhausting. 5 minutes isn't too bad, but I already feel out of breath. The effect itself isn't really visible until at least 30 minutes, looking sort of stop-motion-esque once they manifest. And if my belief about my ability being some form of connecting between universes perhaps there is the possibility that someone or something capable enough to travel between them is possible…
“For now, let’s see what happens.” Leaving the photo with the pipe sticking out in the tub I returned to the living room to add another section to the document.
Time: (Incomplete. More Study Required.) - Not too long ago I found that keeping my limbs inside a (static)medium over time seems to grant said image time/progression.
Sticking my finger (or another limb) inside begins this effect. After about 5 minutes I can still feel out of breath, after 10 I feel exhausted. After 20 minutes I start sweating like a pig. And by 30 I feel like I'm going to die. Affects don’t appear visibly until this 30-minute mark causing the image to take on a stop-motion quality. I have yet to retry this process.
I have been using this effect in conjunction with a video editor to fast-forward time to a designated degree. By adding time to a video in the editor and inserting a finger I can drag the progress bar and time seems to pass by rapidly. (I have yet to go beyond a few hours at a time to prevent the program from crashing with my finger inside). Doing so with an editor allows me to bypass the exhaustion process.
Warnings:
As a photo is a ‘moment in time’ the passage of time requires my involvement for this process to occur. Having an item stuck between the medium allows things to pass through. If allowed, significant time might allow more than just water to pass through.
Since this discovery, I have noticed the sun in my training area has moved slightly, causing a change in time, while this process has yet to conclude with a full day and night cycle it is likely to continue until a full rotation has completed.
Prolonged activity on the Otherside of images might have simir effects with no notable drain.I realized that it's probably a good thing this works on digital mediums since you can just close the image if you're not using it. That way I didn't have to worry about leaving an affected item lying around. I should probably collect that tree picture and the bnket with Scooter from the living room.
I sat for a moment in thought before "Next should be... I should also try that,” The process would take some time to set up, but I needed to do it eventually.
Heading into the bedroom I looked over the collection of Item Bags I left at the foot of the bed st night. "I think it was one of these two." Going through their contents I eventually found the TV pulling it out over the bed to prevent it from breaking during the fall before bringing it over to the living room, I started trying to hook it up. The process took about half an hour due to cable searching and detangling. Somehow that happened in there.
Once the TV was set up, connected to power and my ptop, I pulled up the test subject; my wand, a rge old earthy-colored stick with a strange carved pattern of ruins that swirled its length. I picked up from Harry Potter's Ollivanders almost a month ago now. But after returning with it the strange pull that I felt to it and the vibrance faded becoming a dull stick in comparison. This can be said of most magical items after a certain amount of time passes.
For instance, the knife I was using since this morning had snapped in half sometime while I was writing. My expnation for this is its source of energy IE Mana had been depleted. The odd thing was this depletion of Mana on magical items only occurs when the item is in the Real World. (Which kinda sucks. Really wanted a ring of disease resistance).
And that begs the question if this Mana is disappearing, where is it going? My best guess is that it's being used, where and how, and by what were all quandaries. While this Mana could be reted to the formation of these dungeons popping up, the fact that they are occurring everywhere means that is negligible at best. "Honestly It’s just as likely that someone’s ability is creating them... I should write that down".
Magical Items: Magical items commonly found in fictional and fantasy stories can be brought to reality through my ability.
Typically, magical items require a source of energy whether that energy is Mana, Ki or some other mystical energy is totally dependent on the item in question. There are some that come with their own strange phenomena or otherwise anomalous behavior.
Items that do not abide by an energy consumption principle and the ws of thermodynamics are otherwise anomalous. (Is Mana applicable to the ws of thermodynamics?)
Theory: Items with internal energy generation Should be capable of existing in the real world for longer periods. If not indefinitely.
Real World: I am unsure of the reason, but something seems to be draining Mana and by extension magic items in the real world. It could have something to do with the dungeons that have been spawning sporadically around the globe.
Through this deterioration, Items like potions convert into natural substances. While something like a Mana core pulled from the heart of a Mana-based(infused?) creature deteriorates into nothing. In cases of an item like an enchanted knife, they return to simple normal objects or break in the process.
Note: I should probably check my Item Bags to determine whether their internal size has decreased.
Because I ck mana there was a limited number of items I could use as far as magic items went. Many of them can take a while before the deterioration finally cims them while others just go inert into normal objects. In the case of my wand, it had returned to that of a stick, once I returned, but I wanted to try something. Bringing up an image from the Harry Potter universe to dispy on the TV, I wanted to see if the wand would return to normal if returned to the other side.
Spoiler
[colpse]Wand in hand, I stretched out the membrane as I reached inside the screen. Shortly after returning it to the other side, the runes started to glow and the vibrance returned. Pulling it back out caused the glow to fade as if its batteries had been removed.
"Huh." I had been suspicious whether this would work for a while now but kept myself busy. And it makes me curious why the invisibility cloak still works even after being outside for so long. Perhaps complexity slows the deterioration? That or it might just be a divine item.
Shortly after returning the wand to the other side its length filled with vibrant energy. The ruins carved into its surface glowed to life.
Since the wand worked, I wanted to see if I could use a simple spell. "Lumos," I called simply waving the wand in a forward and backward motion. To no reaction. "Did it need to hear me?" I tried again this time after sticking my head inside. "Lumos," I called again, and again waving in a forward and backward motion, this time a glow of off-white light began to shine from the tip. Pulling the wand back out with the light still lit at the tip, I marveled at the sight for a couple seconds before it fizzled out.
While causing the tip of your wand to glow wasn’t exactly useful (compared to a fshlight), it was simple. Most of all it meant I could use magic, though not in the real world, sadly. The restoration of the wand's power would not remain once removed.
It's the world itself that has magic, not the people, they just have a gene that allows them to use it. "I guess that means I have the gene to use magic in their world?" which is an odd thing to think about.
With my ability to use magic confirmed (in one world at least). I wanted to check what happens if the wand was pced in different worlds. But I ended up discovering something else. Pcing the wand into images taken from other series, all canonically having Mana, I noticed the speed the runes charged with light differed between them. If they charged at all. More seriously, I noticed that depending on the world, the Ki now flowing with my blood would stagnate/refuse to move into the portion on the other side of the screen.
Giving it a moment I came up with a reason; The fundamental principle at py for the wand to work properly was likely Mana, its perfect conditions being in the universe where it was created (Though if I gain access to Mana, I might be able to use it as a catalyst). Ki on the other hand, "Doesn't function in worlds where the concept doesn't exist?" In other words, in a world where Ki isn't canon/doesn't exist, Ki won't work. And if I were to specute, if I gained Mana, it would also be subject to this rule.
"That's annoying..."and now there's something else I need to study.
