Chapter XXVI Twenty Six

โ€œWhere do you think yoing? A teleportation scroll wonโ€™t save you from me, I have unfinished business with you, Chazrick!โ€ Dink shouted, brandishing his sword.

He kicked open the door while murderously rushing toward the pair of departing High-elves. Thick green light swirled around the pairโ€™s feet. It rotated faster as it climbed to engulf them. It didnโ€™t look like it would plete its activation before Dink reached them.

Prince Chazrick frowned in annoya Dinkโ€™s aggressive entrance. His eyes drifted to the caged Myid resting in his off-hand. His hands flexed subsciously at his side to test their movement. It appeared both of their draic bloodlines were still being suppressed by Master Taviaโ€™s magic.

โ€œt yourself fortunate for Master Taviaโ€™s intervention. I would have already collected your head as a trophy to mount inside my study. Do not deceive yourself into believing I havenโ€™t noticed your ana focus. Your earlier outburst was only possible through external stimution. I am not bound by such limitations,โ€ Chazrick arrogantly stated.

โ€œStop stalling for time. Iโ€™m not here to listen to you stroke yo while you flee like a coward,โ€ Dink sneered.

โ€œTsk. You think too highly of yourself, Goblin,โ€ Chazrick haughtily replied.

โ€œHow about I make things fortable for you? Iโ€™ll put aside the mushroom so we fight man to man without bloodlines. Regardless, the oute wonโ€™t be any different, you will lose. It will be almost effortless for me to sughter an insipid knife-ears like you. What say you, Pring?โ€ Dink suggested, indifferently throwing the caged Myid onto a nearby stand.

Dink didnโ€™t wait for the cage to nd before ag. He lunged forward, thrusting his sword torince Chazrickโ€™s neck. He smirked in amusement, simultaneously pulling Madame Sharan in front of the bdeโ€™s trajectory. Her face quickly torted in surprised terror while attempting to resist. Dink effortlessly adjusted the angle of his sword. Instead, mercifully smming the ft of the bde against her temple. She slumped unscious into the Princeโ€™s arms.

Dink fluidly slipped past her colpsing body, using the recoil to reverse his momentum. He pivoted on the spot while leaping upward. He directed an underhanded ssh at the Prince, ign his hostage. The bde sheared off a few stray strands of Madame Sharanโ€™s hair as it flew past her delicate oward Chazrickโ€™s exposed throat. His expression quickly ged frant amusement into an anxious grimace. There was a fsh of green light as Dinkโ€™s sword sliced through his target without aance.

Dink gracefully nded fag opposite where the pair stood. He angrily tossed his sword onto the floor with a ctter, spinning on his heels to face behind him. Where the pair had been moments earlier was y. Only the faint wisp of mana remained.

โ€œFuck, I was so close! Ss of gold-ranked houses live up to their reputation of deep pockets. Thereโ€™s no telling where they went,โ€ Dink cursed in frustration.

โ€œAhem, actually there might be a way to trace their location,โ€ a feminine voice politely interrupted from the doorway.

Dinkโ€™s ears twitched in surprise, he hadnโ€™t noticed their approach. He casually turo wele the new arrivals. It was a young Halfling woman who had spoken, backed by members of the Women's cil. Master Tavia was spicuously absent.

โ€œHow pray, do you io do that?โ€ Dink curtly asked, breathing in deeply to pose himself.

โ€œStop messing around, Tahlea. We โ€™t let down our new groom,โ€ another Halfling woman he first.

Dink stiffe her words, involuntarily stepping backward. He suspiciously ied the pair of young Halfling women. They both cked the braid of married women but showed the subtle signs of maturity of their race, such as developed breasts and buttocks. The one who spoke first, Taleah, stood nervously. She had wavy blonde hair hanging freely to her waist and pale skin. The sed had fiery red hair with lightly tanned skin covered in freckles.

โ€œWhat do you mean โ€˜new groomโ€™? I donโ€™t even know who you are,โ€ Dink asked, his face t into a grimace of disgust.

โ€œIโ€™m your first wife, Riva. This is your sed wife, Tahleah. Master Tavia, has said itโ€™s appropriate for you to be guided by a wife-pair. She even assigned her own daughter, Tahlea. sidering youโ€™ve been marked as a friend of our people, you must be very important. Tell me, who are you and why has Sister-Mother left immediately after naming us your brides?โ€ Riva curiously asked. Dink was too stuo speak, he stood frozen in horror.

This โ€™t be. I never anticipated this happening. Who in their right mind would attempt to wed their daughter to me after knowing who I am? The Swordsaint, the pariah of the entire fug world. Thereโ€™s ing out of this. All it takes for a Halfling wedding to bee official is approval from the Womenโ€™s cil. The opinion of the brides and groom is irrelevant because theyโ€™re not even sidered an adult capable of making their own decisions until theyโ€™re wed. Fuck.

Dink hung his head i, cradling his fa his hand. The tickle of mana being used drew him out of his reverie. He looked up in time to see a faint sigil appear in the air in front of him. Tahlea was casting her spell.

Faint green fog gathered ience, f the shape of Prince Chazrid Madame Sharan i moments before the teleport activated. Tahlea waved her hands in circles through the fog, dist its shape in the air. It spread outward, revealing the surrounding ndscape of murky trees. The se became smaller as it zoomed out to show more trees and other ndmarks until it dispyed a birdโ€™s eye view of a city edging a s.

โ€œTheyโ€™re at House Hydra ihe Ewhor s,โ€ Estra said behind him.

Dink tur her arrival. She ushing her way to the front of the crowd of Halfling women. Her face was posed but Dink could see evidence of her sorrow in her appearance. An out of pce strand of hair here and a torhere from where she clutched at her blouse in despair. Not to mention, he could feel the depths of her heartbreak through their bond.
