Chapter 27 - New skills

Iko finished eating and cleaning herself after a few minutes, which the royal kids spent healing their soldiers, as she looked up to their direction, she saw them and all the other guards around a single soldier.

“What’s happening over here?” Iko asked as she flew towards them, landing on the middle.

Aiden turned towards her, with a grimace on his face, his red hair clinging to his face.

“Lyke... he is too wounded... my sister can’t help him, but she doesn’t want to give up” He said while trying his best not to look at the man on the floor.

As Iko turned towards the man, the girl, Fay, was sweating rivers while barely managing to keep herself awake, her black almost blue hair was sweating and clinging to her face just as her brother.

“You can’t die! I told my father none of you would die!” She said while biting her lip, blood dripping from her mouth.

  Maybe I could...

Iko walked towards the almost dead man, he had his stomach open and was bleeding a lot, it was a miracle he managed to survive so long.

She didn’t know why she wanted to save him, well, she knew but didn’t know why that was the reason.

For some reason... I don’t want Aiden to feel... sad.

Iko then brought her tail close to the dying man mouth, and let drops of her blood fall on him, Rainari and the beast both healed when she gave them her blood, and maybe if it was in low quantities, they wouldn’t corrupt.

At first everyone one just looked at her like she was crazy and probably wondered what the black liquid was since normally blood doesn’t come of a bottle and a syringe on a tail.

But then the man wounds started to heal, slowly but they were healing, his pale face wasn’t as in much pain as before.

“That should do it...” Iko said while all the soldiers started cheering and hugging the man that was just waking up.

  “H-how did you-”

“My blood is special, end of conversation” Iko interrupted Aiden, for some reason, she felt hurt answering him like that.

“Oh, it’s okay don’t worry” He suddenly bowed at her “Thank you for saving one of my men”

“It was no problem, just... let’s get going towards the tower... I rather we get there soon” Iko said looking away, she felt that Aiden didn’t really have any reason to bow, she was just doing it as a favor.

“I am sure you want to get there soon, but our soldiers need to rest, they were pretty injured, and one man almost died” The armored man, Ghall, said from behind Aiden.

“The soldier is in good health and even previous injures healed, I am really grateful” Ghall said while also bowing, a lot more than what Aiden did, and Iko didn’t feel the same feeling she got when Aiden bowed.

“As I said before, it was nothing, since you all are going to rest im going to check something I just got from killing that monster” Iko said while turning away before Fay could jump at her, because she could see it in the eyes of the girl, she was almost crying while hugging the soldier but looking at her she could feel her stare on her.

I don’t want anyone touching me, thanks.

Iko then flew towards the nearest batch of rocks and sat down on the biggest one, before trying her best to make the spears create a perimeter around her, which failed miserably.

Whatever is not that hard to kill them if they get nearby.

Iko then summoned one of her new “Bloodline” abilities system panel, she was curious since none of them were corrupted this time.

That’s... interesting, but what pact? I wasn’t even alive thousands of years ago!

Iko decided to try to use the skill but stopped midway.

What does it mean... past memories await trapped inside the void?

Iko wasn’t really confident with what the system was telling her, and honestly, it probably wasn’t even her memories, but Helen’s, it seemed the world loved to confuse the 2 of them.

Unless I really need it, I don’t think I will use this skill, next one!

The cool flavor texts on the abilities didn’t give Iko any confidence, but worse of all was the last text on the description, who would try to summon a fireball inside someone?!

“I don’t feel half as affected I thought I would feel to someone calling me monster... especially the system, I guess it’s because ? ?????? ???? ? ???????”

  Iko blinked.

Always been... a monster? N-no... I was human before! Not a monster!

This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it

“You good there? What you said right now was weird, specially that last part, I couldn’t understand shit” The demon said, waking her from her inner chaos.

I'm okay... A dragon is not a monster, and the skill says it itself; it’s reminding me I'm not a monster, never expected I would need that reminder.

“Yes, I'm good... it’s nothing, just... go over to the humans to annoy them or something” Iko said calming her breathing and her rapid beating heart.

“If you say so” The demon said before disappearing.

System... just show me the last one.

Now Iko could actually use this, right now it was useless, but in the future, it would come in handy.

This one was good, and it didn’t make me think about my existence, so that a plus!

As Iko flew back towards the humans, she heard a piercing shriek coming from her right, as she turned to look at what the sound was, she saw another 9 monsters that looked the same as the one she killed before, and they were clearly angry.

Been a while since I tried to use magic with corruption, I could try and see how strong it is right now.

Iko opened her mouth and used another spell she wasn’t showed by the system but knew it existed.

  “Thunder Chain”

As she spoke black sparks of lightning started to generate around her in the form of 2 lighting bolts, which then shot straight at the monsters with surprising speed, but they didn’t pierce their bodies, they electrified them from the outside and then jump to the next monster, if they didn’t die, the lightning would just jump back to them and finish the job.

And it was cool as hell to watch the monsters get toasted by lightning, there was only a bad thing.

Why the fuck did it cost so much?!

Iko body was feeling weak and she started limping as she walked, it seemed that “thunder chain” was a spell she shouldn’t really use.

And the system told her why.

Iko saved herself form the low reserves thanks for her not using mana, but her body was feeling rather weak, not enough to stop her from flying though.

Fucking system who likes to annoy me

As she flew towards the humans, they looked at her weirdly, once again, probably because they just saw her summon 2 lightning bolts and toast 9 monsters, monsters that the system would know their levels but Iko was too lazy to identify them, and they were so ugly they didn’t really deserve to be identified.

“What you all looking at? Did you rest enough? Because if you did, we should start moving” Iko said trying to hide her currently weak body, her soul-leather jacket was barely on her, it was really just covering her arms as it fell from her shoulders.

As she landed on the ground near the carriage, she did her best to enter and sit on the window seat.

Sadly, Aiden noticed she felt weak and helped her inside, thankfully not asking questions, but she felt something deep inside her when he helped her, it wasn’t love, she had fallen in love before and it didn’t feel like this, there is also the fact the person she had fallen for was a piece of shit, but more like... meeting someone she missed deeply that disappeared years ago.

But why would I feel like that with him? I have never seen him before today...

Iko decided just to rest after thanking him, and she just noticed that for some reason, she hated when others touched her outside of battle, like in the middle of battle, she wouldn’t mind if her enemy touched her shoulder or something, but outside of battle, she hated being touched, it felt... weird, wrong, as if she shouldn’t be allowed to be touched, like a sickness, but for some reason, Aiden felt... warm, she didn’t feel like a sickness anymore, she tried imagining herself grabbing hands with Fay, but the moment she did, her body trembled, and it felt wrong, as always.

So why was it different with him?

She wasn’t feeling tired enough to sleep, so she just stayed there, seated waiting for them to get ready to leave.

But then, darkness swallowed her vision.

The night sky was cold, but she didn’t really mind it, it felt good on her injuries, her father had gotten really mad today, apparently his favorite gladiator died in the arena.

She didn’t know why that was her fault, but it was, why would her father beat her up then?

Mother was also tired today, so this time she didn’t use the knife, just the bat, she didn’t want to clean up her freak of nature blood from the floor.

“Elar... help them find peace, please” She said, praying to the only god she knew would listen.

The moon was big and golden today, the once in a year occurrence was happening.

The moon of Raiz, that was what the first person who saw it named it, apparently after the name of their closest friend.

“Wonder if I’ll ever meet someone like that... who would name a rare event after me...” She loved that moon, its golden hue cleaned all the pain of her body, her white hair felt more alive and it's blue aura seemed to calm, the white hair alone wasn’t special, but the white hair with blue aura was supposed to mean a connection to the Elar, but her black dead eyes meant bad luck, the two of them together meant that a disaster involving the gods would surely fall upon whoever was close to them.

“There is no way someone will ever be my friend in the first place... the few that tried were sent to churches to be healed by their parents, and never came back... some rumors said... they were frozen solid” She didn’t know why talk like someone was hearing her, well if someone was, it was just the forest and the tree she was resting on.

The wind flowing around the forest was cold as always, but this time it felt weird, there was a certain heat in it.

She turned her head towards where the warm wind came from, and in the middle of the bushes there was a boy, he was wearing fancy clothes, he seemed about 6 years old, just like her, he had red fiery hair, a color even the fire would want, he also had red eyes that said that no matter what, he would never give up.

And that were the characteristics that someone watched by Fuy, The God of Fire, had.

“H-hey are you okay? You are bleeding!” He asked, his valiant eyes showing worry, a worry that felt real, any other kind of worry would feel fake in front of this.

“G-get away... all those that tried to get me to do something have been frozen solid-” Before she could end her warning, the boy was already in front of her offering his hand to her.

“Inside the forest will be difficult to help you, follow me! I know a place where we can heal those injuries” He said grabbing his hand, the normally cold touch she always felt replaced with warm, warm she hadn’t felt ever, not even when father threw her to the chimney, or mother threw the hot boiling soup on her, those were always cold on her skin, and finally, she felt warm.

“My name is █████” He said with a smile she could never make.

She didn’t know why, but she gave her own name too.

  “Uhm... My name is I-”

Before she could say her name, an armored guy on a horse appeared, he started screaming on an unknown language, or it should have been, but she knew what he said.

“With the power that the fire spirits have given to me, burn my enemy with a volley of arrows!” He said, and following it, dozens of arrows made of fire were shot at them.

It’s been 2 years since someone tried talking to me... don’t get on the way!

  Ice.

  Everything got covered by ice.

  Everything except her and him.

The trees were frozen, the lake nearby got frozen, and the man with the horse were stuck on a sculpture of ice, the arrows of fire extinguished the moment the wave of cold touched them, the air returned to its normal cold feeling.

Ah, I done it again... he will run, and I will fall unconscious on the cold floor-

“That was so cool! Thank you for protecting me, they have been following me for a while now, this should buy me some time! Now, come with me! I know someone who can help!” He said, but then, a giant bird landed next to them, the winds created by its wings nearly breaking the ice.

“Sir █████! Just what do you think you are doing on the middle of nowhere?!” The man riding the bird shouted.

“I was talking with her” He said turning to look at her.

  But she wasn’t there anymore.

“Where did she go?” He said looking around.

“Enough of this” He grabbed him and made him ride the bird.

“But she has yet to tell me her name...” Was the last she heard before the boy was taken by the man, flying to the sky.

She wondered while hidden behind a tree, if she could ever take to the skies too, and the time she does, do it with who she wanted to call brother.

  "Iko... My name is Iko..."
