Chapter 19 - An invite

“You… remind of someone right now… now shut up and don’t get into my business.”

  “…” Iko looked at him.

  “…” He looked at Iko.

  “Pft!” Iko started laughing uncontrollably.

“What so funny, lizard?” Asked Jaul looking at her not knowing what she was thinking.

“You couldn’t think about a better lie? There is no way I would remind you of someone that you will treat right, the man that could create a dungeon as a mortal doesn’t’ even know how to lie!” Iko tried calming her laughter but the look in Jaul face just made it even funnier.

“I guess that was a obvious lie wasn’t it?” Jaul said with a heavy sigh “Whatever, the real reason is because I don’t want to deal with your crazed state again, it was a pain to try to not kill you”

As Iko calmed down, she looked at Jaul with a smile “About that, do you know what happened to me? I don’t really remember what happened after I transformed” She said while unwrapping her tail from her thigh and wrapping it around Rainari egg.

For some reason, Jaul looked at her with surprise “You… don’t remember?”

“No, should I have remembered? Well not like I could control it” she said shrugging while getting up to get one of the blankets.

“No, not really… The system did say that one wasn’t really you” he said while turning his attention to the screens.

  The system?

“What do you mean?” She asked confused.

“The system, it told me to give you the collar back and that it would seal your hate, including the one using your body” he said.

“The one using my body? You mean that sea serpent?” she said while remembering the chains that grabbed the sea serpent, they looked like the ones she had on right now, and… right now they felt more familiar than before, but even colder.

“Sea serpent? Like that one?” he pointed to one of the screens with the monster that looked like the sea serpent.

“Yeah, but that one feels majestic, the one I’m talking about was… oppressive and hungry, and it hunger was turned onto me…” She suddenly felt scared of that monster gaze, she started to tremble, her unstable emotions were already a bitch to deal with, and it had only been a few minutes.

“Interesting… it does sound like Him maybe that’s why she didn’t lose herself when getting his blood…” he started murmuring things to himself.

“Scientist’s sure are weird…” She said while tugging the blanket over her body.

Minutes passed with Iko in silence and Jaul murmuring things to himself.

“Soo, what is supposed to be my work as the dungeon assistant? I mean, if I’m forced to this work, I should at least do it right shouldn’t I?” She asked while scratching her horn.

Jaul murmurs stopped and he looked at her.

“Oh I forgot about that, well my job as the dungeon master is to make sure the dungeon is able to be defeated, and restock the monsters when they die, which only means I need enough energy to source the creation of new monsters, for the bosses, the system makes sure they respawn on their own, and depending on their intelligence, they will forget they were killed, or know they were, but forget the experience of dying” He said explaining HIS job instead of answering her question.

“And my job?” She asked a little annoyed.

“Well normally the gods do all the work, and those created by mortals do not last for long, no one really knows what the assistant does, so I guess ask the system or something” He said while getting a cup of tea out of nowhere.

  “…”

  “…”

“Useless” She said while throwing one of the couch pillows at him, and he dodged effortlessly.

  Hey system, you there?

  Hello?

That thing in you devoured your connection to the system and now she has problems connecting again, and she thinks I’m the guilty one.

W-what? Iko remembered that voice, it was one of the voices that talked to her when she awakened the system and made it so she got a [Beast] system, she felt shaked by hearing it again, but not unpleasant,

Whatever, the dungeon assistant is supposed to lure adventurers to the dungeon with any kind of method, and to make sure bosses do not cause a disaster because they are bored or something.

If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

She turned to Jaul who was looking at her curiously.

“So?” he asked while grabbing a pen and a paper, again out of nowhere.

“Well, whatever was in my body apparently devoured my connection to the system and another voice that the system thinks is at blame told me my job is to lure adventurers into the dungeon and to make sure bosses do not cause disasters outside of combat with challengers” Iko answered truthfully, without hating him, she really didn’t have any reason to not answer with the truth.

“I see…” He blinked once, twice, at the third time he seemed to notice what she said “Your connection to the system disappeared?!” He asked shaken up, his pupils turning purple.

“Apparently…” She said while getting a slight discomfort at him looking at her with those eyes.

“It’s true… I can’t see the system mark on your soul now” He began writing quickly on the paper that suddenly became a notebook.

Hey kiddo, the system said that for now she would believe me, and it told me to tell you that it might be a day or two before she can reconnect, so try not using your power so much, since you don’t have the system assistance.

I guess I can do that if I just sleep… or try to lure people to the dungeon, because out of the 4 screens only Rakikas seem to have some problem, and a personal problem at that, with the door, so not that.

But that’s the system suggestion, I say fuck it and try it either way, you’ll learn to control it better if you don’t use the system help! Oh, and before I leave, I’m the one that the system keeps saying is a “Moderator”, but you kiddo, you can call me [ERROR]

Error? Why does it sound so… warm?

“Well, I guess I have to take you to the outside of the dungeon for you to bring people in?” Jaul said, pulling Iko back to reality.

“I-I guess…” She said looking at the notebook full with different symbols and complex words. Thank the gods I’m not a scientist.

“Okay then, grab this” He then throwed a ring with a crystal on it.

  “What is this supp- “

“Before you say something weird, if you touch the crystal you can talk to me, so warn me if someone comes to the dungeon” he said with a sigh.

Is he annoyed by how it looks so much?

“Sure, by the way, remember that moment went that girl decided to jump from the platform you had before? What happened to the other people there?” She asked while putting the ring on her un-clawed arm.

“… that’s a good question, let me look” He then turned to a fifth screen that wasn’t showing anything before. And then it was showing the people he had in, what she guessed were cells, all trapped inside a room with a purple crystal in the middle.

Wait… purple, but it’s also green and black… strange.

“They seem fine, that’s good, I can experiment on them then” Jaul said.

Of course he would want to experiment on them.

That rock… that PIECE, it fits in your eyes, take what’s yours…

“What was that?!” Iko screamed while looking around her.

“You good there, lizard?” Jaul asked.

“Y-yeah…” What was that… Wait “WHO ARE YOU CALLING A LIZARD?!” She turned fast towards Jaul.

“Bye~” He said with a innocent smile and waved his hand, the next thing she saw was a lot of trees, it looked like she was in a forest.

“That bastard…” She said clenching her hands. But she was more annoyed than anything.

“A lizard… I’ll show him what’s a lizard if I found one…” She looked around, and saw the same trees on all sides.

“Well time to look for people, and I could try to level up while I can, and enjoy being free from that fucking place” real sun was something she hadn’t had for months!

First, she tried to summon the corruption to her, and she failed at first, the corruption becoming much more rebel now that the system wasn’t there.

It may be harder than I thought…

She tried again, this time using her soul to control it and build borders, she could incredibly manipulate her soul way easily than corruption.

And this time, the corruption used her soul as a road to explore her astral body, and then she was able to cover her claw in corruption, just for it to vanish seconds after.

“Progress at least… but god that took energy from me…” She was already tired just from covering her claw in tiny pieces of corruption, she was sweating and breathing heavy.

“Yeah, not trying that again for a while but…” She looked down at herself, long ass tail, big ass wings and huge horns, but low level.

“How am I supposed to convince anyone like this…they will treat me for a monster right away, and just, well try to, kill me, unless they are at the level of Jaul or Rakikas, I should be safe…” So Iko decided to hide her non-human parts, she reached into the soul pieces building her clothes, and started to morph them into a black cloak with a hood that covered her tail, wings and horns, lastly, if someone she used to know and somehow survived Folkur massacre wouldn’t recognize her, she build a mask, but she liked how her mouth looked, so the only her eyes would be covered, that was a stupid reason, but she like that reason.

When she opened her eyes, what she had designed was successful, and without the system help! Mostly because the system gave her the probability not the skill to do that with her soul.

She went to the nearest water source she could hear and looked at her reflection.

“I look good, well I always do, but I look good now too, so I must mention it”

She then heard movement coming from not so far form her, it was a lot of movement, and the sound of steel clashing with steel was loud, her dragon senses working easily without the system.

I wonder if I can convince them? Well, I have to try, or else I won’t know.

With that she started to run towards the noises.

Leo was silent as he saw the others soldiers train, it had only been a few days since his daughter had left for her quest, but the information they got from the church didn’t let him sleep, a man that kidnapped humans and experimented on them, that the kind of man his daughter was send to find, his stupid king who ruled an empire with the order all messed up, he had sent his daughter to die, but he had an special ability to know when someone he marked had died and Emilia mark was still shining, but it had flickered so much he could only guess what kind of experiments that monster was running on her.

I have to keep a calm mind; I can’t lose temper. He reminded himself over and over again.

Suddenly a dark aura enveloped the camp they had made to take a break from the travel, something that felt wrong was approaching to their camp.

“Soldiers, get your weapons ready! Get in formation!” He ordered, whatever was coming, it was dangerous.

A figure then came out of the woods, it was a feminine figure with a mask covering the top of its face, it had its body covered by a pitch-black cloak, the only thing it was showing, it was a bit of white hair and its mouth.

It then started to speak; it voiced a silent song.

“Hello soldiers, I take that you want to raid the home of the scientist that lives here? I can guide you there~ just promise me one thing" the figure smirked "try not to wreck the place~”
