Chapter Seventy-Nine: Bodyguard
After filming the commercial, Ryan recorded the final song for the album, "Climb", and then Thanksgiving arrived.
But before he can enjoy his turkey dinner, he has to attend a movie premiere.
"The Bodyguard" premiered on the eve of Thanksgiving Day, unlike anything in the past. From the day it started filming, this movie has attracted countless media attention and numerous phone calls asking about its release time.
Now, who doesn't know that this film was born out of the conflict between super genius Ryan Jenkins and superstar Tom Cruise, it's hard not to attract attention.
When Warner Bros. released the first trailer, all major media outlets dug up the old story again and it was a big publicity stunt. The video clip naturally became the top choice for replay on various TV stations, and some talk shows started to mock it. Famous host Larry King suggested in his show that if the movie sells well at the box office, Warner Bros. and Jenkins Productions should give Tom Cruise red envelopes (a Chinese tradition of giving money during holidays).
Even Tom Cruise was ambushed by paparazzi on the street and asked for his opinion about this movie.
Ah Tong Ge was not a broad-minded person to begin with, let alone being made a fool of by this matter. He hasn't received a single film offer from the beginning of the year until now. His face turned pale on the spot, and he was so angry that he almost vomited three liters of blood.
All the movie premieres are similar, what's different is that Ryan walked alone on the red carpet, while Nicole accompanied Judy Foster and entered the Chinese Theatre early.
The real protagonist of the movie premiere was clear in the media's mind, unfortunately Ryan wouldn't give them another chance to stir up controversy, after signing a few autographs for fans, he didn't even participate in the usual group photo shoot, and quickly walked into the theater amidst the shouting of reporters and paparazzi.
He has temporarily gained the upper hand in this smokeless war, and there is no need to be unyielding and merciless in front of reporters, which would not do his image any good. Who knows, it might even shift public opinion. Besides, he won't miss doing what needs to be done, so why give those flies more seasoning?
In the foyer of the theater, he made a round of greetings with familiar and unfamiliar people. As he grew older, he had to expand his network, even if Americans were more concerned with practical interests, but human relationships within the rules were equally indispensable.
Soon, he found the figures of Nicole and Judy Foster, who were huddled together talking about something. "Hey, Judy," Ryan said nonchalantly, wrapping his arm around Nicole's elbow, "I didn't think you'd actually show up."
"Of course I'm coming." Judy Foster smiled meaningfully, "This is the script you wrote with me as the prototype, how could I not come and take a look?"
"Alright, alright, Judy, I've apologized already." Ryan said with a dissatisfied wave of his hand.
"Alright, Ryan," Judy Foster's smile faded, "I didn't mind, I think you know that."
Ryan shrugged her shoulders and said that Warner was still reserved, only promoting the fourth script of Ryan Jenkins during the promotion, mentioning Tom Cruise, but not mentioning the source of the film's creativity at all, even though everyone knew.
Regardless of what's said, the assassination attempt on Reagan is still Judy Foster's greatest pain, and people in the circle know she's Nicole Kidman's best friend.
Not long after, several more people joined their little circle.
"'I Will Always Love You' and 'I Have Nothing' are awesome, I love them, they have a heart-stopping power, of course the others are great too! Ryan, you're a genius!" The woman speaking to Ryan is Whitney Houston.
"The song is great, but without your interpretation, it's probably going to lose half its color." Ryan had listened to the original album and indeed thought it was excellent. Flattery doesn't cost anything, so even if he wasn't particularly fond of her, he still gave her a few compliments.
This kind of gathering is like this, you flatter me a few words, I flatter you a few words, everyone pulls the relationship, talks about recent situations, and even some movie investments are also determined in this occasion.
With Kevin Costner starring as the male lead Frank Farmer "popping" a bullet that kills one of the thugs, the movie opens.
The taciturn and icy bodyguard and the passionate and fiery female star, each showed their own personality and life, they seemed like two parallel lines that would never intersect, but the clichéd plot of romance movies, where the male and female leads must start from a place of animosity and confrontation.
Is there a more suitable turning point in their relationship than a heroic rescue?
The heroine Rachel was knocked down from the stage by enthusiastic fans during a concert, and just as an accident was about to happen, bodyguard Frank came to her rescue in time, taking Rachel away from the encirclement of crazy fans and leaving safely. The relationship between the two gradually improved.
The hero saving the beauty is eye-catching, but the biggest highlight of the movie here is a song, "I Have Nothing", sung by the heroine on stage, with a bright rhythm and loud applause.
Rachel, in order to thank the bodyguard, made an excuse and invited him to dinner together. Afterwards, she followed Frank back to his home. In fact, most people would guess what was going to happen next, but this kind of plot is exactly what people like to watch.
In the bedroom, Rachel picked up a samurai sword and teased her bodyguard, Frank. He took off Rachel's silk scarf and tossed it into the air, where it landed on the blade of the sword and was cut in two.
Ryan felt a bit frustrated at this point, as he had changed the samurai sword to a Chinese sword in the script, but director Mick Jackson ended up using a samurai sword anyway. This was one of those things that couldn't be helped. As per usual, Ryan followed the crew around so that he could make changes to the script as needed.
He didn't have that American time to worry about these things, could only grant the director the power to change the script, of course, if it was a major plot, he had to get his consent.
What's next in the movie? Cough... It has developed to this point, if the male and female protagonists don't go to bed together, it will definitely make the audience scold the screenwriter and director for being boring. This kind of melodrama is a must-have.
This passionate scene is not very long and may disappoint many who want to see Whitney Houston.
The next day, after waking up, Frank felt extremely guilty about his momentary impulse and wanted to draw a line with Rachel in order to better fulfill his duties as a bodyguard. As a result, the two people who had just started a relationship became distant from each other. In revenge against Frank, Rachel went so far as to flirt with his former colleague Bowman, pretending to be intimate with him.
She just didn't know that Bowman was a crazy killer who wanted to kill her.
To escape the crazed killer who keeps mailing letters to Rachel, Frank takes Rachel and her family back to his country estate. After an explosion, Frank targets his suspicions at Rachel's sister Nicky, and under his questioning, Nicky finally confesses that she hired a hitman to kill Rachel out of jealousy over her sister's success.
As a result, that night, Nikki was mistaken for Rachel by the hitman and Frank's pursuit yielded nothing.
Rachel received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress, and as the presenter announced her win, Rachel walked towards the stage when assassin Bowman disguised as a cameraman used the gun hanging under the camera to take aim at Rachel.
The female star's face appeared with a ray of light, and the audience's hearts were all raised. Although most people could guess that the diligent bodyguard would save the big star at the most dangerous moment, they couldn't help but worry.
Accompanied by the music of "I Have Nothing", Rachel stood on the highest honor stage, raising her hands high in celebration of victory. At a critical moment, Frank rushed over from one side of the stage, blocking the fatal bullet. In the chaotic scene, Frank found Bowman's location and shot him dead.
"He's my bodyguard! He's my bodyguard!" Rachel finally understood the emotions that her bodyguard had been suppressing deep within his heart, and shouted loudly in a passionate gaze with Frank, "No! No, Frank, don't die! Hold on!"
At the same time, the card for the Oscar Best Actress was ignored, left alone in a corner of the stage, and finally picked up by Rachel's agent and stuffed into his pocket.
This contrasting shot is more shocking, the female star threw away the highest honor in the entertainment industry and devoted herself wholeheartedly to her bodyguard, showing how deep her feelings are.
How can a movie become a classic? At least one shot will touch people's hearts, be remembered in their minds, and not easily forgotten. Every time they think about it, they still have feelings.
Finally, at the end of the movie, the most touching and classic scene appeared. With the song "I Will Always Love You", Rachel ran down from the plane, wearing a trench coat and a headscarf, rushing towards Frank.
At the same time, the singing voice gradually changed from low to high, and the emotions of the male and female protagonists that had been suppressed throughout the film were completely released in the shocking singing voice. The two tightly hugged each other, allowing the audience's repressed emotions to be thoroughly vented along with the film.
As Ryan suggested in the script, the director used a 720-degree spinning shot here to show the audience this passionate kiss.
To be honest, apart from the bodyguard and the superstar, most of the plot is just clichés commonly used in romance movies, but the airport farewell scene and the song "I Will Always Love You" elevated the entire movie by at least two notches.
"Wow!"
When the curtain fell, a warm applause broke out in the theater, and many people rushed to the performers to express their congratulations. After all, they were all professionals who knew very well that as long as there was no accident, this would be a blockbuster movie.
