Chapter 28 Are You a Puppy?

Chapter 28 Are You a Puppy?

Although it was the second time in the Big Apple, the world's first metropolis was still a strange city for Ryan. However, after staying in a small town in northern Canada for a whole month, this strange city gave Ryan a rare warm feeling.

"The Little Ghost" has finished filming on location in Canada and moved to New York, where Ryan has fewer shooting tasks and more free time. Despite this, he still can't help but complain a little.

The reason is simple, just a few days before they arrived in New York, the crew of "Sleepless in Seattle" went to Seattle for filming, making his plan to reunite with Nicole fall through. To know that since more than half a month ago when Nicole visited his class, the two have not seen each other again.

Fortunately, in this city, he still has his only peer friend.

"Go to Long Island." The driver for Ryan was an assistant assigned specifically to him by the production team.

Dear Nate, I wonder what you're up to? Have you grown taller again? Standing in front of Natalie's house, Ryan rang the doorbell, and a frail girl appeared in his mind, as if she would fall with just one blow.

"Hello, Mrs. Sherry?" Seeing the middle-aged woman who opened the door, Ryan greeted her very politely, but he had grown a lot taller, and Mrs. Sherry looked at him with some hesitation, and after a while, she asked uncertainly, "Are you...Ryan?"

"Yes." Ryan smiled brightly, "Is Nate at home?"

"Ah." Mrs. Sherry hastily ushered him into the house, "No wonder Nate has been muttering 'when is that guy coming' recently, it turns out you're coming to New York!"

"Nate, come down quickly, Ryan is here." Mrs. Sherry shouted upstairs.

In the midst of dense footsteps, Natalie with a ponytail rushed down from upstairs. After seeing the boy, she stopped in her tracks, put her hands on her hips and raised her chin, saying "Ryan Jenkins, you're getting more and more childish!"

"Hey, Nate, is this how you welcome friends?" Ryan shot back just as fiercely.

Natalie hummed softly and walked down the stairs with her hands behind her back, circling around him once. "Ryan, don't you think it's too childish to play Kevin in 'Home Alone'?"

"Is that what you call innocence?" Ryan retorted immediately.

"Oh God, is this the super genius that's been touted in the media? He hasn't even graduated from kindergarten!" Natalie's words were laced with venom.

"But all of my grades are A's, I'm the top student at St. John's Elementary." Ryan's nostrils also started to flare upwards.

"Is that so? Look at what the newspaper says, never listens in class, hardly ever talks to his classmates, and in just one semester, Niko has been called to the principal's office five times." Natalie counted off his offenses.

"Is that so? I don't recall," Ryan said bluntly, "When has the New York Post ever been reliable?"

"But you can't deny this is a fact."

Although Mrs. Sherry knew that her daughter would engage in heated debates with Ryan every time they talked on the phone, she didn't expect that after not seeing each other for almost a year, they would start again with their habitual bickering, so she had to intervene, "Nate, and Ryan, can you pause for a moment?"

"Sorry, Mrs. Sherry." Ryan scratched his head in embarrassment.

"Okay, mom." Natalie pulled on his arm. "So we don't disturb you, let's go to my room."

"Then I'll prepare some snacks and drinks for you."

Ryan once saw a sentence that if a girl is willing to take you to visit her bedroom, it means she has recognized you and regarded you as her good friend.

"Are these pictures of you when you were little learning dance and performance?" Ryan looked at the black and white photos and color photos on the wall, all of adorable Natalie. If one of them was put up for auction on Ebay twenty years later, it would definitely cause a sensation.

"Yes, I started learning dance when I was four years old!" Natalie slightly raised her chin and put on a slightly proud look.

Then, she pointed to a photo of her receiving an award and said proudly, "This is the prize-winning photo from when I participated in the Hebrew debate competition. Let me tell you, Ryan, apart from English, I also know Hebrew and French!"

"Really? You're quite something, Nate." Ryan first looked surprised, then said with an even more pleased tone, "Actually, I also mastered two foreign languages, French and the most difficult Chinese!"

"A toast to the wine, how much of life is left? Like morning dew, gone in a day, with many bitter days to come. Sighs and worries are hard to forget, what can dispel them? Only Du Kang... The mountain does not tire of its height, the sea does not tire of its depth, Zhou Gong spit out his cup, the world returns to his heart!" Rui En recited a poem by Cao Mengde in a melancholic tone.

  "Ryan Jenkins!"

Natalie listened to this strange and beautiful language, grinding her white teeth ceaselessly, as if she would pounce on him at any moment and bite the guy who loved hitting himself.

"Wow, look at this! 'Jurassic Park', 'Ryan's Story Collection', and 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' and 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets'. It seems like you've flipped through them many times, Nate. So, you're a bookworm just like me!" Ryan said with an even more pleased expression as he looked at the books on his desk.

  "Hmm"

Natalie snorted heavily, as if to retaliate, and said disdainfully, "Your book can only be considered a children's book, nothing special, far inferior to profound works like 'The Sixth Sense'."

"Alright, Nate," Ryan said with a wave of his hand. "If all my work was as adult-oriented as 'The Sixth Sense', those tabloids wouldn't just be saying I'm weird - they'd probably be proclaiming me a freak by now."

Upon hearing her good friend's last words, Natalie seemed to be moved, putting away her proud and stubborn demeanor, and said with unprecedented seriousness, "Sorry, Ryan, I shouldn't have brought up this topic. You're my best friend, and when I saw those things written in the tabloids, I felt like going there myself to tear down their editorial department."

"It's okay, Nate." Ryan gave her hand a gentle squeeze. "You know I've never cared about what those paparazzi say, even if they portray me as some weird, spoiled, clueless and airy kid. So what? Not even God can get everyone's approval. What I care about is what the people I care about think of me. The rest can go to hell."

"Alright Ryan, despite our many differences, as your best friend I'll always be behind you to support you!" Natalie said firmly.

"Wow, I'm so touched I'm almost in tears." Ryan made an exaggerated expression, prompting Natalie to roll her eyes and grit her teeth, saying "You know, Ryan? Sometimes I really want to bite you, you're really annoying."

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it... Ow! Natalie Herschel, did you really just bite me? My wrist is going to fall off. Let go, are you a puppy or something?"

"Wooo..." Natalie obviously didn't intend to loosen up.

"You bite me again and I'll hit back!"

Ryan was not one to take a beating without fighting back, so he gritted his teeth and bit down on Natalie's earlobe. Unfortunately, at that exact moment, Natalie had relaxed her jaw and was trying to lift her head, resulting in a tragic outcome.

  "Hmm"

Natalie's forehead collided with Ryan's chin, and the sudden clash of upper and lower teeth was absolutely unbearable. Ryan couldn't help but grit his teeth, while Natalie wasn't much better off, covering her forehead and muttering under her breath.

  "Nate!"

  "Ryan!"

It was as if they had a telepathic connection, and the two of them looked at each other simultaneously. When their eyes met, they couldn't help but burst out laughing, infecting the entire world with their joyful laughter.

"Nate, it's really great to be friends with you."

  "Me too, Ryan."

The two of them chatted like this, one sentence at a time, for an entire afternoon. Sometimes they would burst out laughing because of their shared views, and sometimes they would get into heated debates over minor differences, but it was undeniable that the two had already become good friends.

Facing Natalie's family invitation, Ryan stayed for dinner, just like the rumors of his previous life and what he imagined, all the dishes were vegetarian, oatmeal, whole wheat toast and vegetable salad, which made Ryan somewhat unaccustomed.

In previous communications, he had discussed this issue with Natalie several times. Yes, vegetarianism is not a bad habit, but being overly strict has little benefit, especially for children who are still growing. Plant protein cannot completely replace animal protein, and it's hard to say that Natalie's frailty in her past life was unrelated to her strict vegetarian diet.

"Nate, if you have time, you can go to the crew to visit." After finishing this not very appetizing dinner, Ryan chatted with Natalie's family.

"I still have school." Natalie glanced at her father, though her expression was eager to try, she declined politely.

"Alright then. It's getting late and I need to get back to the crew, or Director Columbus will worry." Ryan glanced at his watch and bid farewell.

"Ryan, how long are you staying in New York?" Natalie asked.

"I figure it won't be more than a few days," Ryan said after some thought. "I've got to go to Pennsylvania in a couple of days, to visit a friend with Patte, my agent."

Ryan is indeed going to Montgomery County, Pennsylvania to meet his investment agent Mr. Scott, both for sightseeing and discussing some business matters.

At first, Spielberg gave all the merchandising rights to Crichton, except for a few long-term owned stocks. The manager invested in other areas and overall had some losses but made much more than he lost.

While Scott's accountant, who handled his finances, would provide him and Nicole with a supervisory report every month. Although he was rotten in business to a certain extent, after all, he was a man of two generations, and simple financial statements could still be understood. To sum it up, Mr. Scott's ability and professional ethics were not bad.

Ryan just felt that his name was somewhat familiar, as if he had heard of this investment master in his previous life.
