Chapter 16. Horrer of a Dungeon

Mary lowered her voice in a scary tone and started by first warning them that this was a true incident and had happened in our very own academy.

Students leaned in closer to each other. No one laughed or talked now.

"A professor once went alone into the dungeons behind the academy."

  She paused.

"He'd heard from others that a dead creature—something ugly, unnatural—had been brought from the Dark Forest. He couldn't hold his curiosity and wanted to see it with his own eyes.”

  Her gaze swept the circle.

"But the dungeons were forbidden even for Professors. No one was allowed to enter easily. So he went at midnight.”

"The dungeon was silent. Dark. He descended the stairs carefully, holding a dim light.”

  Thuk. thuk. Thuk.

“Finding the cell where the creature was kept. It lay on a stone table in the center of the room.”

  ( Professor's perspective.)

“ Wow, so this is the creature, what an ugly site, can't these soldiers kill it without damaging its damn body.”

Without wasting any second he started to examine this corpse.

He found that the dead body was wrong in quiet ways. Limbs were bent at shocking angles that suggested joints should not be present. Covered in patches of fur clung to skin that looked half-grown, half-peeled.

The Professor's gaze fell on one side of its chest, which had collapsed inward—as if something inside had tried to force its way out but failed.

  “ Mmm, mysterious and horrible.”

  Then—

He used a magical scalp to open the body by making a large cut on its belly. Dark pus seeped from the organs and dripped onto the floor. “What! There's still this much blood in it.”

  He continued…

After that he moved in circles around the corps while he started writing his notes and was careful, avoiding the spreading stains.

Time was running out, “ haaah, haaa.” His breathing grew uneven. His hands began to shake.

Feeling a bit tired, the professor stepped away and sat at a desk, placing distance between himself and the corpse. His back faced the corpse, while he relaxed and continued working on his notes.

“ Wait, is this? How can someone do such a horrible thing?” Eyes widened with horror.

  Stolen story; please report.

The professor had reached a conclusion.

"This, this structure of the ribs. The placement of muscle. The way bones are connected.”

He checked again. Then again flipping the pages continuously.

“It is not a monster born from nature. Hah.” He placed his one hand on his head, shocked.

“It had been created. Assembled. Using parts from different creatures…It's a… it's a human turned into a chima…. ”

  Suddenly—

Behind him a soft sound came. Like someone moved. But he didn't notice it. He was too focused on his notes.

Then—A cold chill ran down his spine. His senses cried out. His face went pale.

  And now he felt it.

  (Someone was behind him.)

And whatever it was, its slow breathing touched his back.

  "Grrrrrrr."A low growl.

“ Haah, haah, haaah.” The professor's breathing became fast, sweat dripped down from his forehead.

He didn't want to look what was behind him but still gathering his courage he turned.

  The next he froze.

His eyes widened as they saw the same dead creature was glaring at him with bloody eyes.

But what was the most shocking thing, Its face had reassembled. The large cut across its belly had healed.

“Grrrrr.”It growled again and showed its sharp, deadly teeth.

"That night," Mary said quietly, "only the professor's screams left the dungeon."

  "But not him.”

"By morning, when the guards and the headmaster arrived in the dungeon.”

"The creature was missing!. But the professor was still there. Alive."

  She paused.

"But his appearance... they couldn't help but fear what had happened to him. The lower half of his body had been replaced with goat legs. Stitched on crudely."

Mary fastened her pace, her eyes wide.

"His face—his skin—had been replaced with a dog's. And even after all this, he was still ALIVE. But the horrifying part was that the professor was eating his own severed legs—Chewing without awareness. Like an animal that had forgotten pain.” use

  The story ended.

  Silence filled the common room.

Some girls had already covered their ears while others stared at Mary, scared.

John was also one of them, horrified by the story. His breath had turned shallow.

Calum sat beside him listening to the story with mild interest, but after it ended he turned towards John and saw the fear in his eyes.

With a sinister smile, Calum leaned close behind him and growled playfully.. “ Grrrrrr”

  John screamed."AAAHHH! DON'T EAT ME!"

He jumped from his seat, stumbling forward, face pale, body shivering.

Everyone turned at once, all looking at him.

It took John a moment to realise what had happened and when he did, he spun around and protested to Calum, accusing him of doing it on purpose. “ What, what the, are you crazy, why did you scare me?” But calum was laughing quietly to himself.

The tension broke and others also started laughing too. Some students mocked John openly, some sighed in relief.

  Fear loosened its grip.

And John stood there, embarrassed, ears burning red, unable to defend himself properly.

Not long after, the group dispersed and returned to their rooms.

Later that night, John and calum, both lay awake on their beds.

The room was dark and quiet, and John was still a bit scared, he had covered his head under the blanket and after a long pause, he asked Calum in a quiet voice. "Calum... do you think what she said is true? Do...Do monsters like that really exist?”

However,Callum didn't answer immediately. He was distracted, staring at the system window in front of him. Information materialized on the screen.

  Then did he answered

  “A chimera.”

John pulled the blanket down slightly. "What?”

"Creatures like that really exist," Calum said calmly. "Formed from mismatched parts of beasts, animals, attached to a living human. Creating a Monster that defies nature itself.”

  He paused.

Calum laughed softly. "John... who do you think

  creates these chimeras?"

  John didn't answer.

"Hmm, didn't you call these chimera monsters," Calum continued. "But the real monsters are the ones who created them. And those... are humans!.”

Then his smile deepened in the darkness.

"Think about it, John. You live in a world where everyone is a monster, ready for a chance to tear you apart, and make you a chimare. kekekek.”

John listened carefully, eyes widened, he believed that what Calum said was true. His throat tightened as another question formed.

"Does that mean... the professor in the story was really—"

"Yes," Calum said. "He was turned into a chimera.”

  The room fell silent.

John was truly frightened now. So he again covered his head with the blanket and fell into a deep sleep.

Days passed without disturbance. Winter settled in quietly around the academy. The sky was getting darker day by day giving the indication of heavy snowfall.

After the exams, a short holiday was announced—time given before results were released. The students were very happy about this and they were also allowed to move freely in the whole academy. And many did.

The academy was vast. Even weeks wouldn't be enough to see all of it.

Beyond the five house towers stood older structures—stone buildings, wooden huts, darkened by weather and time.

Students entered these places with curiosity, hoping to find forgotten treasures. But what they found was just a fresh donkey shit.ˉ?\?_?(? ??°? ???? ??°?)?_?/?ˉ

Calum and John also wandered with a small group in one afternoon.

Their breath, visible in the cold air. They passed behind the academy walls, farther than most students usually went. That was when they saw it.

  The dungeon.

It sat apart from everything else. A low, dark structure of stones, its shape heavy and wrong. The entrance was narrow, half-swallowed by shadow. Iron bars crossed its doors. Rusted.

  Someone whispered about the story.

  No one laughed.

Guards stood nearby, armored and alert. And when they saw the students drifting closer, the guards moved at once.
