(S1 Ep. 14) No Longer Alone

  Part 6: Walking Home

The night air was cool as Arjun and Vikram walked back toward the city proper. Behind them, the industrial district faded into darkness. Ahead, the lights of civilization glowed like distant stars. They walked in comfortable silence for a while, processing everything that had happened.

"So," Vikram said eventually. "A team. This is new."

  "Good new or bad new?"

"Good, I think." Vikram kicked a pebble, watching it skitter across the pavement. "Kabir seems solid. Serious as hell, but reliable. The kind of guy you want watching your back in a fight."

  "And Leela?"

"Smart. Really smart. Scary smart, actually." Vikram grinned. "I give it two weeks before she figures out all our deepest secrets."

Arjun smiled. "It feels... right. Like we're supposed to do this together."

"Yeah." Vikram's voice was quieter now. "Yeah, it does."

They walked in silence for another block. Then Arjun noticed the shift in Vikram's energy—the slight tension in his shoulders, the way his grin had faded.

  "You okay?"

"Yeah, just..." Vikram shoved his hands in his pockets. "Not used to the team thing. Usually do everything alone."

"Me too." Arjun thought about the village, about Diya, about all the years of being the responsible one who handled everything himself. "But maybe that's the problem. Maybe we're not supposed to do this alone."

"Maybe." Vikram's smile returned, smaller but more genuine. "Guess we'll find out."

They reached an intersection—Vikram's apartment lay to the east, Arjun's to the north.

"Training tomorrow," Vikram said. "Kabir's going to work us hard. You ready?"

"As ready as I'll ever be."

"Cool." Vikram turned to go, then paused. "Hey, Arjun?"

  "Yeah?"

"Thanks. For... you know. Not being boring." He flashed his trademark grin. "See you tomorrow!"

He jogged off, flames flickering briefly around his feet before he remembered they were in public.

Arjun watched him go, then turned toward home.

  Part 7: Not Alone Anymore

Arjun's building loomed ahead, familiar and welcoming. As he approached, Priya's door opened. She stepped out, dressed for a late-night study session, textbooks under one arm. She saw him and smiled. "Hey. You look... happy?"

Arjun realized he was smiling. Had been smiling since leaving the warehouse. "Yeah. I guess I am."

"That's new." She shifted her books. "Good day?"

  "Made some new friends."

"That's great!" Her smile widened. "You should bring them by the café sometime. I'd love to meet whoever's making you look less like a zombie."

  "Maybe I will."

"And—" She looked him up and down with exaggerated scrutiny. "You're not hurt today. That's definitely progress."

  Arjun laughed. "Small victories."

"The best kind." She started down the hallway, then paused. "Arjun? Whatever's going on with you... I'm glad you're not facing it alone anymore."

A case of content theft: this narrative is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

He watched her go, warmth spreading through his chest. Inside his apartment, he went straight to Diya's photo. The familiar face smiled at him, frozen in time, forever encouraging.

"I'm not alone anymore, Didi," he said quietly. "I have a team now. People who understand."

*"You have found your flock."* Arjun turned. Garuda hadn't manifested visibly, but his voice was clear, present.

  "My flock?"

*"Birds fly in formation. Stronger together than apart. It is how they survive storms, cross oceans, reach places no single bird could go alone."* A pause, weighted with something that might have been approval. *"You are learning, Arjun. Faster than I expected."*

  "Is that a compliment?"

*"Take it as one. They will be rare from me."*

Arjun smiled. He looked at the photo of Diya one more time, then at the bracelet on his wrist. Blue and gold threads. Woven together. Stronger together than apart. He changed into sleep clothes and laid down on his mattress. For once, his body didn't ache with exhaustion. His mind wasn't racing with worry. He felt... peaceful. Ready. Tomorrow, training would begin. The real work of becoming a team. Learning to fight together, trust together, protect each other.

  But tonight, he could rest.

  Part 8: The GodBound

The group chat buzzed with activity.

Kabir: Everyone confirm for tomorrow. 7 PM. The address I sent.

Leela: Confirmed. I'm bringing the tactical analysis I've been working on.

Vikram: Confirmed. Bringing snacks. You're welcome.

  Arjun: Confirmed.

Vikram: That's it? Just "confirmed"? You're so boring, Arjun.

  Arjun: Confirmed. :)

  Vikram: Wow ??

  Leela: Can we focus?

Kabir: Leela's right. Tomorrow is important. We need to establish baseline coordination before we can think about reconnaissance.

  Vikram: Sir yes sir.

Kabir: I'm serious, Vikram. This isn't a game.

Vikram: I know. I know. Sorry. I'll be serious tomorrow.

Leela: I'll believe it when I see it.

Kabir: Get some sleep, everyone. Tomorrow we start becoming a real team.

Arjun set his phone aside, but sleep didn't come immediately. He stared at the ceiling, thinking about everything that had led to this moment. A temple in his village. A collision with a statue. A god choosing him for reasons he still didn't fully understand. Months of fighting alone, of barely surviving, of pushing himself past every limit.

And now—a team. Four avatars, blessed by four gods, united against a darkness none of them fully understood yet.

*"You're thinking too loudly,"* Garuda's voice observed. *"It's keeping me awake."*

  "Gods sleep?"

*"Of course we do. Everyone needs rest eventually Arjun, you should know that. "*

Arjun paused momentarily. "Garuda... do you know the other gods? Indra, Agni... whoever blessed Leela?"

*"I do. Indra King of heaven. He is arrogant, but powerful and defends against demons, I have great respect for him. Agni has always been passionate—the heart of sacrifice, the consumer of offerings. As for Leela's benefactor..."* A thoughtful pause. *"The energy signature is familiar, but masked. Whoever blessed her wishes to remain hidden."*

  "Why would a god hide?"

*"Many reasons. Protection. Strategy. Sometimes shame."* Another pause. *"Do not concern yourself with it. What matters is fulfilling your role according to your destiny."*

“My destiny…I’ve always wondered, if my destiny is set from before I was even born, then what's the point of my free will?”

“Your destiny is not a script written line by line Arjun, you can think of it as a field prepared by your past actions. The soil, the weather, the seasons. What grows there depends on what you choose to plant now. Your karma sets the conditions of your life, but your free will decides how to respond to those conditions”

Arjun was silent for a long moment. The weight on his chest did not vanish, instead it shifted.

“Then,” he said quietly, “this path, the people, the responsibility I carry—these weren’t placed on me by fate alone, were they?”

He looked up, uncertainty threading his voice.

"Is this what you wanted? When you chose me?"

"I chose you because of who you are. The team—that was your doing. Your compassion drew them in, your kindness earned their trust. Do not credit me with your achievements."

Arjun smiled in the darkness. "Thank you. For believing in me."

*"Sleep now, Arjun. Tomorrow you train. And after that..."*

  "After that?"

*"After that, we find whoever is behind the possessions. And we stop them."*

Arjun closed his eyes. When he slept, he dreamed of golden wings and silver lightning, of dancing flames and shields of light. Four powers, four purposes, coming together like threads in a tapestry. Stronger together than apart.

  Tomorrow, they would begin.
