Chapter 6 - Jareth’s Test

The Lost Vampire System Chapter 6 - Jareth’s Test

After the man hung up the phone, Stacy was left confused. She stood there for a moment before deciding to follow her superior's orders. She turned and walked back towards the students and stood in between her guards.

“Even though you have declined an Evolved book you still have to take the test,” Stacy said.

Jareth didn’t understand why he had to take the test. The result will just show that he is a power level of 1 because he can’t display an Evolved power. He wasn’t going to say that out loud though.

Stacy stepped forward, “attention, I will now explain how the test works. Behind this prototype camouflage wall there is a bunch of equipment that we will use to test you. We will be testing your Strength, Stamina, Agility, and your Dexterity. Stamina will be judged based on certain events on your test. She tapped her tablet once and the students could see the very scenery right in front of them started to lower. The scenery that was lowering disappeared and it looked like a black screen lowering itself. Some areas had holograms turned off.

“Whoa!” Henry, Madison, and Emma said with excitement.

This was something that they have never seen before. Jareth had seen a video of the prototype a few months ago. Damion and Hannah on the other hand, had seen the prototype in action before in person, courtesy of their families.

It finished lowering itself into the ground, and a door closed over it, leaving no sign that anything had happened. On the other side there were equipment for various tests that would be conducted on the students. There were targets used for ranged Evolved powers, sideways punching drum to measure strength, and there looked to be a paved section with four poles on each corner. It is used to measure Agility.

“Since you don’t have an Evolved power, I will explain to you what the tests will be when we are closer to the equipment. This is because upon the completion of my directions, the test will begin. Now please follow me,” she said while turning around and walking towards the targets.

Jareth followed and the guards stayed in their positions. Once she got to a yellow line that separated between the targets and them, she stopped, turning to face Jareth.

“Now you need to hit the targets in front of you as fast as you can,” Stacy said. “The yellow line is just to make sure that nobody accidentally interferes. The test will begin now.”

Once Stacy finished, she stepped to the side and the targets went down while new ones came up. Since Jareth didn’t have any range weapons or powers he just went sluggishly over as fast as he can and hit the targets. He slowly hit each one and at the last picked up a rock. He threw it successfully hitting the target.

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

“Able to improvise,” Stacy muttered and typed it down. “Follow me.”

Stacy and Jareth walked over to the second area, the paved one with four poles at the corners.

“This test will test your Agility,” said Stacy.

She tapped on her tablet a few times and an arrow appeared in the middle of the paved area.

“Where the arrow is pointing is where the front is,” she said, then coughed five times. “Sorry about that,” she apologized then continued. “The goal is to dodge the holographic spikes for as long as possible. Please step in the middle of the platform.”

Jareth did just that, looking around and preparing himself for the spikes.

“Begin,” she said while she gave her tablet a single tap.

At the front of the arrow, a hologram of a spike shot out toward him. Jareth tried his best and dodged it. This happened a few more times before it stopped. It continued again but slightly faster. Jareth tried going for as long as he could but eventually, he got hit. He lasted about 40 seconds.

  “Agility 7,” Stacy said.

She took him over to the next test. It looked like a huge drum with wires coming out of the sides and going up to a screen up top. He was instructed to hit it as hard as he could. So that is what exactly Jareth did. He raised his arm back and punched the drum as hard as he could. The drum vibrated a little then stopped. A number showed on the screen.

“Strength 7,” Stacy said. “And now for your final test.”

She took him over to a wrestling type ring and the right guard was in the middle of it. For this test the guard was wearing a testing suit. He was supposed to dodge his attacks and then a random red X will appear on his suit, and he was supposed to hit it. He will start slow, but then it will go faster the longer Jareth keeps successfully doing it. Stacy ensured that the guard knew what he was doing and that he knows how to properly increase his speed.

“Now get in the middle of the ring,” she ordered.

Jareth listened to her order and slowly got in the ring, but tripped over himself in the process. He pulled himself back up, a little embarrassed but crawled into the ring and stood up.

  “Begin!” she shouted.

The guard threw out a fist at a speed he could dodge. A red X appeared on the guard's chest while he threw out a left hook. Jareth went in dodging the attack and punched his chest. The man didn’t even flinch when Jareth hit him. The man stood still like a rock. He thrusted his leg out slightly faster. Jareth moved to the side and hit the red X on his shoulder. This went on for only about 5 seconds before Jareth got hit.

  “Dexterity 3,” Stacy announced.

Jareth had noticed the words that Stacy had said. Jareth thought for a moment then came to a conclusion. In all of the tests he had scored a 7. The score was the same as his “Draven System”. What if I took this test under a shadow, Jareth thought, would I perform better, and my score be better? A 10 like what my system says, or a 4 for my Dexterity?

“Based on your performance your Stamina is a 7.”

This confirmed what Jareth thought, that the result was the same as his system.

“Like what I thought,” Stacy said. “You will be marked as having 0 abilities and a combined power of 1.

Jareth balled his hand in anger. His days as a power level of 1 will be hard, but if he can figure out how to level up and get stronger, than I won’t be weak for long.

Stacy took him back up to his classmates and went to stand next to Damion.

“Don’t worry,” Damion said. “You can rely on me if you need help.”

  “Thanks,” Jareth replied.
