Dear Risa,
We made a journey of what should have been two days in like an hour and a half. I can already tell you are very impressed by this news, if slightly unbelieving.
I assure you it is true.
So, you know how the continent cracked, and part of it sprang up, and that’s what caused the whole death earthquake thing? We reached the edge of the part that sprang up.
Risa. It looks like the planet just… stops. You climb and climb and climb, and then suddenly there’s a ledge, and there’s nothing ahead of you but sky. It… kinda defies description. Just imagine the biggest cliff in the world, and then imagine it ten times bigger. And then imagine you got on a wyvern and had it fly above the clouds. And then combine those, and… it’s still not enough.
Like, from that vantage point, you can see the planet. Not just seeing the ground, or standing your roof and seeing most of a city, no, the whole planet was below us. It was so beautiful I almost cried.
And then we tied all three liondrakes to the wagon and had them jump off the edge.
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
Cali said they really wanted to glide down, and Luke said the wagon was structurally stable enough, so we decided to go for it. Besides, the “real” way down felt about as safe as an abandoned warehouse at night. No way in hell was I going to go down that thing.
The liondrakes wanted to just float straight out, but after ten minutes of that, Maki realized we were about to cross the Owonyan/Bestest border. If we did that, we’d kinda be in the country illegally. Cali said we could just backtrack once we got to the road, but explaining to suspicious guards how we got in, and why we didn’t have stamped passports was just something I wasn’t willing to do. Even if they saw us fly overhead and land, it still would look very suspicious from a legal standpoint. So Cali had the liondrakes spiral the rest of the way down.
Which is how we got to the sprawling metropolis of Pishposh.
Risa! I’m in a different country!!! Aaaaaaaahhhh!!!!!
For the first time in my life, I’m somewhere where there’s less nekos than any other race. Yeah, there’s plenty of nekos walking around, but there’s more elves.
Oooor at least I assume they’re elves, because it’s rude to ask if someone is a changeling.
Maki and Cali have abilities that let them tell when someone is a changeling as opposed to a real elf. Maki has to touch them, though, before one of his Guard things activates. Cali says there’s something in her Charm magic that lets her know from a distance. Which is handy, because that means the two people in our group who changelings can’t perfectly copy happen to be the ones who can tell if someone kidnaps one of us and tries to take our place.
Ok, now that I read it, I recognize that what I just wrote is kinda racist.
I’ll sign off before I can dig myself in deeper.
Regards,
Maeve Zee
