9 - Traveling - Cali

  Hey Diary.

I can’t believe I haven’t written the liondrakes’ names yet!

The male says his name is Sir Hexaliusim Maneholder III, Lord of Fluffums Pride. He prefers to be addressed as Sir, and has no idea why it took me an hour to confirm with him that all those names were correct.

The females are Lady Zeridal Rabbitchaser of Fluffums Pride (she goes by Zeridal), and Lady Veloserid Thornpaw IV of Fluffums Pride (Thorny).

I’d like to say I will ever understand liondrake naming conventions, but that would be a lie.

Anyways! We’re traveling through big, craggy mountains right now, and the ravines are apparently great for gliding in. Thorny loves to fly, and if she isn't sleeping or pulling the wagon, she’s usually gliding along next to us, seeing how long she can go without flapping her wings. So far the record is three minutes and two seconds, which I think is very impressive.

The other two like to glide, but it’s not something they really go out of their way to do unless Thorny asks them to race. Although they do like the game where they jump off the top of the wagon and plummet down almost to the bottom of the ravine before spreading their wings. That game stresses me out; even with wings I don't think I’d be able to do it.

The further west we get, the fewer wild animals are around. I hope they all just left, and didn't all die in the earthquake. This means, among other things, that the liondrakes have nothing to hunt. We have to provide them with all their food and snacks.

Since they’re wild carnivores, they’re used to eating something small about once every two hours. Maki is a little annoyed that he has to go into his room and get meat from the freezer in there twelve times a day, but he’d be more annoyed if Sir decided to eat his foot instead. I wouldn't mind going to get it, but it’s not my room. And I’m the only one with permission to drive the wagon.

Not that the wagon needs steering or anything. Liondrakes are smart, and won't wander off the road. Around here, there’s not a whole lot of roads that connect to this one, so even if I didn't direct them at all, we’d probably end up where we needed to be at the end of the day.

If I let Trusty and True go wherever they wanted, we’d end up dead in a ditch somewhere, and they’d be very convinced it wasn't their fault.

I don't know what Peanut would do. I bet Peanut would take us to where we needed to go. He was such a good horse. I hope he has a good life now.

Oh, we didn't pass any towns today. Usually we pass at least one. I guess not many people want to live way out in the middle of nowhere by the edge of a cliff. I don't blame them. I don't think I’d really like living here unless I could fly somehow.

I wonder if the rune that made my charm levels permanent could give me a flight spell. Flight is a psychic spell, something to do with telekinesis, so I don't have it. Dad said flying took way too much concentration for it to be something useful. But if I were to fall off a cliff or be swept up into a waterfall, I’d be super grateful I had it.

I’ll have to ask Maki if he’s tried to fly yet.

  Signing off,
