7 - Traveling - Cali

  Hey Diary,

After staying a full extra day just for fun, we finally left Dragon’s Pass this morning! We’re taking building supplies and food to all the towns along the road to Vodka.

So, in the city we introduced the liondrakes to important people and got paperwork saying they were under our care and command. Then we registered our wagon.

The guild people were all like “ooh, eight levitation runes” and “ahhh a lovely compartment in the tarp”, and wrote down numbers for how much we could hold. Then Luke showed them the hidden pocket dimensions, and that completely stunned them. The one lady almost fainted when she realized what they were and how much cargo we can carry.

Luke and Maeve had to go explain things to some fancy official person; I think someone was going to be mad at them for having put a pocket in a cart instead of making rooms for people to live in. Which I understand. People are still rebuilding, and while most people have places to live, there are still lots of people who need rooms and houses.

When they got back, Maeve said it was fine. Maeve knows how to talk to official people, so I wasn’t too worried. But she was required to promise we’d use our pockets to help with the whole rebuilding effort thing. I want to help people rebuild, so I was perfectly fine with anything we need to promise.

You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.

Oh, some of the people we talked to about the liondrakes brought up money, and how much it costs to feed them. Given that they’re carnivores and also related to dragons, this is an important thing to bring up. Maeve had a list of numbers and things to show how we’ll afford to feed them, but all that was kinda a lie. The way we’re feeding them is with a duplication rune.

Echo is a Spy, and she somehow found a rune that lets anything be duplicated. Just put it on the rune, and suddenly there’s two of them. It works nine times, and on the tenth time the original thing vanishes. And it can’t duplicate duplicated things. So while feeding liondrakes is still going to be a little expensive, it’s not going to be all that much more than if we had three horses.

The only thing is, Echo and Luke’s dad made us all promise to not tell anyone about it. So we have to pretend that we’re buying enough food for three large carnivores for a week, when really we’re only buying enough for one day with the intent to duplicate it.

It’s complicated. I’m glad Maeve is around, and knows what to tell everyone.

Anyways, we passed three towns today, and Luke realized that he needs to make the portals removable. Being able to put them at ground level would make loading and unloading a whole lot easier. He doesn’t have the right tools to do it now, but in Vodka they should have the type of hinges he needs.

Maeve always acts extremely interested whenever he talks about building things. I wonder if she really finds hinge types fascinating, or if she’s just making Luke feel like what he’s saying is interesting. Because I don’t think it’s interesting at all.

That’s probably not something I should ask about, though.

I’m getting into dangerous topics. I should sleep.

  Signing off,
