Hey Diary,
We’re on the road again! Our first stop is Dragon’s Pass, and then we’ll be heading west to the Bestest Empire!
Which means we won’t be going to Goldvale. Everyone is a little sad about that, but it doesn’t make a ton of sense to head there. And on the other hand, it means we’ll get to see a new place! New places are always good.
Right now we’re spending the night on the side of the road in our new wagon. We have everything we need for a comfortable home, so we didn’t really bother checking to see where the next town is. I have my little snug corner under the tarp, the liondrakes are all snuggled up on top of the tarp, Maki has his pocket dimension room, and Maeve and Luke have their room. Since we just left Fish we have plenty of food, so yeah! We’re all set!
The liondrakes did an… acceptable job today. They go at their own pace, alternating flying and walking. Which averages out to twice as fast as what a normal neko walk is, but sometimes they try to race, which makes things a little jumpy in the wagon. Only twice did the liondrake who was pulling get distracted and try to go hunt something in the bushes. They really are smart creatures, and after getting stuck between some trees twice, they figured out that when pulling the wagon, they need to stay on the road.
Their stamina isn’t the greatest. A horse can go for a couple hours at a walking pace before it needs to stop and eat or drink water. But these guys… From today, it seems like the male, who is bigger, can go two hours, while the females can go about an hour and a half. Since they only pull one at a time, that seems to be enough of a break for them to nap and regain energy.

And they love napping on top of the wagon. They like stretching over it; it’s curved, and I think it feels nice on their spines. So they lay there and watch the world go by. Sometimes one will jump off and run into the trees, then come jogging up a few minutes later with a snack.
And yes, I gave them plenty to eat. Maki agreed to put a big ice box full of meat in his room, and Luke’s dad carved the duplication rune on it, so we won’t be running out of food for them any time soon. Or food for us.
Oh, I requested that the pocket dimension I’m entitled to be reserved for a bathroom/shower thing whenever Runesmiths figure out how to make those work. Luke made a pocket for me, and I went in to put a box of clothes in, but yeah. I don’t like being inside them. Maki said someone needs to sleep in the wagon and not in a pocket each night for safety reasons, and made it sound like I was being very kind and noble by volunteering to stay in my cocoon of blankets and pillows under the tarp instead of an isolated, giant, grey, cold… death bubble thing.
I appreciate him phrasing it like that. He didn’t need to, but it made me feel useful instead of like a kit who’s scared to be alone.
So yeah, today was an experiment, and one that went well. I can’t wait to see what happens tomorrow!
Signing off,
