Hey Diary,
We got to Riverriverriverriver yesterday! It’s a nice city, I like it. It has a lot of the same aesthetic as Cuff, but more… excited. About water. There’s carvings of rivers and fish on a lot of buildings, and fountains are everywhere. Blue is a popular color for trim on buildings and as curtain colors.
Across from the Guild is a park with a fountain in it. The fountain is shaped like a fish, standing on its tail, spitting water out of its mouth. I can see it out my window. It’s… wrong. Fish don't swim like that. And they don't spit things out. I don't think most fish are even biologically capable of spitting water out of their mouths. I mean, they have gills, not lungs. And they don't have the right type of tongue to just spit things out of their mouths.
I know being bothered by a piece of art is silly, but something in my soul just really doesn't like that statue.
Enough about that, even though it’s really weird.
The liondrakes got a spa day yesterday. I was just going to take them down to the river, but we passed a spa, so Maeve said we should go in there.
It was probably a good idea. The liondrakes enjoyed it. It was a little expensive, but they recognized that it was expensive, which pleased them. Drakes like expensive pampering things. Given how unhappy they were becoming with all the dust and dryness on the road, I’m glad they feel nice and happy again.
Love this novel? Read it on Royal Road to ensure the author gets credit.
Oh, I also got a bunch of leather squares and laces to make them shoes. The laces are a bright turquoise color, while the squares are all sorts of colors. While on the road I’ll see what colors they prefer.
Drake creatures tend to like bright colors. And they tend to think that the more colors the better. If neon rainbow leather existed, that’s what I would get them. But since all the leather is solidly colored, I suspect they’ll want a specific, different color for each paw. Zeridal might want only one color, she likes coordinated things, but Sir for sure will want all four paws to be different colors.
I should write a book about traveling with liondrakes. I’m not sure anyone else will ever try it, but it might be interesting for some people.
Oh, while Maeve and I were getting the liondrakes all clean and shiny, Maki and Luke were buying the stuff for building a bathroom. They built it today! They didn't want to leave the city until they were sure it worked properly and everything, so we’ll stay here tomorrow while they test it properly. Maeve and I specifically did not ask what Maki meant by “test the toilet properly”. He had a grin on his face like he really really wanted us to ask how he was going to test it.
Luke explained how they were going to test the shower, though. Mostly he had to make sure nothing was leaking anywhere. Nothing gross. He said that it was hard to find a proper fur filter for the drain, though. I guess since elves and changelings don't have fur, they don't need things in drains to catch it all so it doesn't plug up the plumbing.
They do have hair, though…
Maybe I’ll ask someone if hair is ever a problem in their plumbing.
…No, that sounds like a dumb thing to ask.
I should just go to sleep.
Signing off,
