20 - Traveling - Cali

  Hey Diary,

I wish there was some kind of map that showed where you were, instead of just showing where everything else is.

I mean, it’s nice to see the distance between Riverriverriverriver and the next tiny town, but I don't know exactly how much we’ve traveled since passing that town. I think we should get to the city in time for lunch? But I could be wrong.

Someone needs to invent a map with like a… Group Place Seer or something. It would be super useful.

Anyways, we’re still in the desert. We’ve been passing lots of really… big rocks. There’s no other way to describe it. They’re not mountains, because mountains usually have slopes and stuff. It’s more like someone took a giant rock, bigger than a building, and dropped it in the middle of nowhere.

They’re very pretty giant rocks. They have different colors running through them, and they create lots of shade. I just don't know what happened geologically to make them appear.

If I had any artistic talent at all I’d try to paint them or something. But then people back home would see the paintings and think I just made it up, because rocks don't usually just pop straight out of the ground like that. So it’s just as well I can't paint.

And have nothing to paint with.

The liondrakes are annoyed at all the dust around. They say it feels bad in their fur. I promised them that when we get to Riverriverriverriver I’ll find a nice pool for them to soak in, and brush them down with oil. That made them happy. Their poor feet are getting sore from walking on dusty rocks all the time, though. We made shoes for them, but we don't have any good material, so the shoes wear out fast. I tried buying leather or thick canvas in a couple towns we passed, but they pretty much said that the stuff in the shops can only be bought by locals.

That… kinda made me a little mad. Not angry, more like sad-mad. I just want something to improve the lives of the animals under my care, and they wouldn't sell it to me. That’s very uncaring of them. They should care more about animals.

Oh, I tried to spend some time in the pocket dimension that’s going to be the bathroom today. I decided that pockets are a part of life now, and I should get used to being in them.

I hate it. I hate being in those things so much. It feels like I’m going deaf. Or blind. Basically, there’s a sense I have, and when I’m in there, it gets totally cut off. I guess I’ll get used to it when I have to shower in there every day, but for now, ten minutes is the most I can take without feeling like I’m going insane.

A part of me wants to ask Maeve if she’d mind staying in the room with me when I shower. Just so I’m not totally alone. But that would be weird.

I don't know. I guess I’ll just have to deal with it.

Watch, I’ll have nightmares about being trapped alone in one of those things tonight.

  Totally looking forward to it.

  Signing off,
