Prologue

Running, more running, no time to stop. Aurelia gagged, bent over and vomited into a nearby bush. The sounds of feet dashing over leaves filled her with terror all over again, glancing back she saw several pairs of green eyes approaching rapidly, the rest of them hidden in shadow by the setting sun. Her breath came in quick, short gasps as she labored onward. To stop would mean a very painful, very slow death. She spotted a old, large tree and veered off course, running at it with a new burst of energy. She recognized that tree, it was close to a camp she had spotted earlier, “Please, please.” she whispered as she ran, she spotted a group of soldiers, “Help m- ugh” thunk, a sharp pain on the back of her head and she fell, scraping and tearing her pants, groaning she looked up. Swarms of little green men washed toward her, pointed ears and noses giving them a wicked look. One smiled and jumped at her, lowering the sling he had just fired. “Goblins!” one of the soldiers cried as another lifted a long stick with a red jewel at the top, fwoom, flames ripped over her, pushing the goblins back and burning them. She groaned, stay conscious stay conscious, but the pain, the smell of burning flesh, and the blackness spreading from the pain in her head convinced her otherwise, and she slipped and fell into darkness.
