Chapter 8: Exhausted

  Kim drove the car flying along the highway, Jinhu had to hold onto the back seat.

  After about twenty minutes, the car stopped in front of a two-story T-shaped building in the suburbs. As soon as it stopped, Kim immediately got out and ran towards the door along the steps with small strides.

  Bernie pulled into the driving position and stopped the car in the parking lot.

  Jintiger pushed open the door and got out of the car, asking Bernie: "Does Kim have relatives here?"

  "Kim was raised by his aunt since he was a kid, and now his aunt lives in this nursing home, let's go in too." Bernie tossed the car keys to Jintu and walked towards the house.

  Bernie looked around and didn't see Kim's figure, so he said to the nurse, "We're with a friend who just came in, her name is Kim!"

  After the two finished registering, one of the caregivers led them to the second floor, with Jin Hu following behind. He turned his head to look around at the elderly people, some sitting in wheelchairs, others using canes, all looking frail and old. A few were still in good physical condition, wandering back and forth in the hallway, while five or six caregivers bustled about beside them.

  Followed the caregiver to a room on the second floor, the caregiver gently knocked on the door and said to the inside: "Jinmu, your friend is here."

  "Come in." Kim's voice came from inside.

  Jin Hu and Bernie pushed open the door and walked in. The inside space was not small, and it was decorated warmly. Near the entrance was a set of small sofas, and near the window was a bed. An old man was lying on the bed, while Kim sat beside him, holding his withered hand with both hands.

  Kim whispered to the old man: "I heard she left your side!"

  Watching Kim follow the old man on the bed chatting in a low voice, Bernie and Jinhu greeted the old man twice and went to wait outside the door.

  On the walkway, Jin Hu subconsciously pulled out a cigarette and put it in his mouth. Before he could light it up, a female voice came over: "No smoking is allowed here!" She said, pointing to the sign next to her.

  "Sorry!" Jin Hu immediately put the cigarette back in his pocket. He looked up to see an Asian girl wearing a nurse's uniform standing beside him. She was about 1.6 meters tall, with black hair tied back in a simple ponytail, and a goose-egg face with two big eyes that were very bright. When she spoke, her cheeks dimpled slightly, revealing two small beauty spots. Her skin was very white, with a hint of luster, and she looked extremely beautiful. This kind of beauty wasn't the kind that was seductive or sexy, but rather a clear and natural beauty that gave people a sense of freshness. As Jin Hu stared at her face, she suddenly blushed.

  "Are you Chinese?" Jin Hu asked in Mandarin, looking at the girl with a red face.

  Jin Hu listened and shook his head, then found a stool beside him and sat down.

  After more than ten minutes, Kim finally came out of the house and called a female nurse to talk for a few minutes before indicating that Jinhu and Bernie could leave.

  As soon as he got on the car, Jin Hu asked Kim: "Is everything okay with you, sir?"

  "There's nothing much, I've asked the nursing home to hire another caregiver, two caregivers would be better," Kim said to Jinhu.

  "So where are we going next? I've got a dinner date with Brian and two girls tonight!" Bernie said to Kim from behind.

  "Phooey!" Kim said, flipping the bird at Bernie. "We're sticking to the original plan - first we go sightseeing. Brian hasn't had a chance to really play tourist in LA yet."

  Jin Hu, Bernie and Kim drove around the city in a car, visiting scenic spots like Starlight Avenue, playing until almost 5 pm. The three of them returned to the factory, where Jin Hu and Bernie were preparing to go out for dinner with two girls, while Kim called Mary, his booty call from last time, to spend the long night together.

  As the time was about right, Jinhu and Berni drove in Jinhu's car to pick up the two girls.

  Upon arrival, Jin Hu's car was replaced with Lu Jing, while Berny became Ke Xi's driver and led the way in front.

  Lu Jing got on the car and sat for a while before asking Jin Hu: "What are you doing here, looks like you're living a pretty good life."

  Jin Hu smiled and said: "We set up a private boxing arena with everyone, not making much money." What Jin Hu said was the standard answer.

  "Oh!" Lu Jing said: "I'm in college on this side, Kelsie is my roommate and also my good friend!"

  Jin Hu drove while chatting with Lu Jing: "It's hard working here, right?"

  "It's okay! I quite like it here, there's nothing to worry about. When I'm tired from work, I can sleep till dawn." Lu Jing said, looking at the receding lights outside the car window.

  "So then, you want to stay here after graduation?"

  Lu Jing shook her head: "I want to stay here, but my family won't agree!"

  "If your family doesn't agree, will you listen to them?" Jin Hu glanced at Lu Jing, and thought to himself that he had encountered another obedient child. Nowadays, how many young people still listen to their elders? Especially someone like Jin Hu, for whom his father's words were just a gentle breeze in one ear and out the other.

  "Our family is different, if I stay here my mom will be very miserable at home alone." Lu Jing said to Jin Hu. Then she asked: "Don't your parents care about you?"

  Jin Hu smiled and said, "In the past, my dad could still whip me with a belt. Now that he's older, he can't do it anymore. Nowadays, I rarely go near them." As Jin Hu spoke, his face turned slightly gloomy, thinking about his own father and mother. This made him feel a bit uneasy, so he quickly changed the subject: "How's your family?"

  "I rarely see my dad, and at home it's usually just my mom. She comes back every day at a certain time and she's very strict about everything! When I was in college in our country, my mom even moved to a house near the school." Lu Jing said to Jin Hu.

  Jin Hu said, "Then your mom is really strict, afraid that someone will cheat her beautiful daughter, huh?" Jin Hu's humor was finally displayed, and he was about to feel proud when he saw Lu Jing's face turn a bit gloomy. He didn't know where he went wrong, and even after thinking about it twice in his head, he still couldn't figure out what was wrong with what he said.
