Chapter 246 – Confidence

The siblings, Anna and Nathan, as well as Ari and Nina, had their long-awaited reunion. While they were busy with each other, Sophia got to know the puma-girl, Vivi, and the cat-boy, Luca. The latter turned out to be Maya's brother, which made Sophia question the simulation she was definitely in, but she managed to befriend them just fine.

“So, how much do you know about magic?” Sophia looked at Nathan, who was sitting opposite her at the picnic table. Having two of them placed next to each other, Sophia, Anna, and Ari were seated next to each other, while Nathan, Luca, Vivi, and Nina were on the other side.

“I’d say I’m rather confident about my skills. “I’m a little behind the raw power of Vivi and especially Luca, but I can’t complain all that much. Okay, compared to what I feel from you, it might be insignificant, but still... Also, why do you two feel so strong!?” He then stared at Anna and Ari. “I don’t remember my sister outclassing me that much!”

“Hehe.” Anna just smirked at him. “Everything is as it should be~.”

“Well, it’s good that you’re confident.” The blonde scratched her cheek. “Alright, now please go ahead and forget everything you know about magic. All of you.” She slowly looked at each of them.

  “Huh?!” The prince got loud.

“Yeah, we had to go through that, too.” Ari and Anna simply nodded.

“What do you even mean?” The prince kept looking at her.

“What do you know about magic?” Sophia tilted her head. “Chanting is the norm, activation words are for the gifted, and chantless is incredibly rare and mostly unheard of? Everyone has a limited number of elements at their disposal, and uncategorized magic basically is no more than a myth?"

“I mean, that sounds rather abridged, but it resembles what I know."

“Uncategorized magic is not a myth, chantless isn’t nearly as rare, and limited elements are just plainly wrong." She lightly shook her head. "The people of beastfolk are just lazy."

"I thought she was a benefactor of our folk?!" Nathan didn't like that and looked at her sister instead.

“She’s completely right.” Anna could only agree with her. “In fact, she’s sugarcoating it quite a lot.”

“Look,” Sophia snapped her fingers to get his attention again before she held up the palm of her hand for a demonstration. Soon, a small sphere of water appeared on top of it. Followed by a ball of fire and a little whirlwind. Then, a small ball of light and darkness manifested itself. Afterward, she pointed to the ground next to them and lifted up a small portion of the soil before gesturing at a branch of the tree next to them, which then distorted in an unnatural way before snapping back to normal. “I’ll demonstrate some uncategorized magic later, so I’ll skip that for now.”

“…” Nathan, Luca, Vivi, and Nina all had the exact same dumbfounded expression.

“She’s quite a lot to take in, isn’t she?” Ari felt for them. “And she hasn’t even warmed up yet.”

“I’m starting to think my food was bad, after all.” It was the only logical explanation for the puma-girl.

“That makes so much sense!” Nathan liked that way of thinking and escaping reality.

“It does not.” Anna shook her head again. “I’m still learning nature magic, and I don’t want to learn darkness-related stuff, but I can already use five elements by now!”

“Same.” Ari nodded a few times.

“How?!” Luca was just as flabbergasted.

“Training. Lots of it.” Sophia gave him a thumbs-up. “Speaking of, Maya even managed to teach herself chantless magic before I met her.”

  “No way?!”

If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

  “Yes way.”

“How did you even figure this out?!” Nathan kept focusing on the blonde.

“I’ve never learned it any other way.” She shrugged. “My teacher can also use every element and type of magic while only practicing chantless. I only later found out that that's not the norm, and it shocked me greatly. Sure, everyone has an element or two they're more proficient in or prefer to use more, but not being able to use them all is a self-imposed limitation, likely due to laziness, as it requires effort. That's why people who are more interested in using magic usually can use at least one more element, because they put a little more effort into it.”

“…” The prince wasn’t sure what to say.

“They’ve already started teaching the new ways of using magic in the academy because of Sophia, by the way.” Anna tried to convince him a little more. “I can also use chantless magic now~.” She also had to brag a little.

“What the-?!” Nathan couldn’t wrap his head around any of that.

“E-he-he~.” The princess sounded extra smug.

“I’m getting a headache.” The tiger-boy was rather overwhelmed.

“That is a common occurrence around Sophia.” Ari wasn’t surprised about that.

“Yep, he’s Menzor’s son.” Sophia let out a chuckle. “And I still haven’t warmed up yet. Do you want me to use some healing magic to make it better?”

“You can use that, too?!” It didn’t help.

“So can Anna and Ari.” The blonde shrugged.

“Yup~.” Anna was still being smug.

“A lot of things have changed over the last year.” The black-haired jaguar felt a little sympathy for the prince.

“Maya can, too, by the way.” Sophia smiled at Luca. “Except for darkness magic, she’s proficient in every type of magic by now.”

“I’m never going to hear the end of that when I meet her…” He hung his head in return.

“Wait, what does he have to do with Maya?” Ari tilted her head in confusion as she looked at Sophia.

“Oh, right! You two were busy with your siblings! Luca over there is Maya’s brother.”

“Huh?!” Ari and Anna got loud. “How’s that even possible?!”

“I have no idea.” The blonde shrugged. “It’s a small world.”

“It sure is.” The two could only agree with her.

“I see now why Father thinks so highly of you." Nathan rubbed his temples before looking at Sophia again. “It’s unbelievable, but the proof is undeniably real. If this spreads, the use of magic will change for the better. I’d love to learn it, too.”

“Yes!” Luca, Vivi, and Nina firmly nodded.

“Sure, we can have a few training sessions in the future for the basics.” The blonde gave him a thumbs-up.

“This is not the main reason for Father to be so enthusiastic about her.” Anna had more bad news for his headache. “The revolutionizing of magic started by her teachings is in the second place at the very best."

“How could things be even more important than that?!”

“I guess that’s the clue to tell you about my uncategorized types of magic, huh?” Sophia adjusted her posture a little. “As you’ve earlier confirmed that it’s supposedly just a myth, I guess it’s no use asking you what you know about it, right?”

“Well, I’m aware of the concept.” The prince scratched his cheek. “Uncategorized magic, as the name implies, is magic that can’t be categorized in the existing elements and groups. Common belief is that there’s supposed to be no such magic, though.”

“Thing is, I don’t do so well with common belief and or sense.” The short tiger smiled at him.

“Truer words have never been spoken.” Anna and Ari energetically nodded.

“What was the city called where we found out about their route?” Sophia looked at the princess. “The port trade city one where we got the boat.”

  “Agola.”

“Right!” She lightly clapped her hands. “You were there half a year ago, weren’t you? That’s what the mayor there told us, at least.”

“That sounds about right from what I remember.” Nathan nodded.

“Give or take a little.” Luca thought so, too.

  “Well, we were there yesterday.”

“…” All four of them just looked at her with big eyes before blinking a few times. “Come again?”

“Anna, Ari, and I, with the help of a type of magic I came up with, traveled the entire distance from Agola to here in around two hours today.”

“She’s insane, isn’t she?” It was the only conclusion the prince could come to while he looked at Ari for confirmation.

“Uhh, yes.” The jaguar couldn’t let this chance go by. "It's still true, though."

“Oi!” The blonde didn’t like that.

“What are you even talking about?!” Nathan raised his voice. “There’s just no way such a thing is possible!”

“I can bring you back to the royal capital in a matter of seconds if you’re interested.” Sophia smiled at him with a slightly mocking grin.

“I’d love to see th-,” The prince got upset over the smirk, but he wasn’t able to finish his sentence. Everything around them suddenly was wrapped in pink and purple particles before the scenery around the group changed. “W-What just happened?!”

“How about you four turn around?” The blonde pointed behind them.

“E-Eh…?” The moment the group did that, they immediately froze. They weren’t on their initial route anymore, but were instead transported to the same little hill Sophia had shown the merchant and mayor before, which had the entirety of the capital in perfect viewing distance. She had also brought the picnic benches they were still sitting on with them, which only made everything even more surreal for them.

“You really don’t hold back, do you?” Ari just slowly shook her head.

“Did you have a better suggestion on how to make them believe and understand?” The blonde looked back at her.

“Fair, I guess.” She did not have a better suggestion.

Afterward, it was time for a break as Nathan and his group needed a minute or two to realize what had just happened.
