“That sounds like a horrible idea to me. Do you think we should even allow it?”

  Sarah says “That decision has nothing to do with me. That is up to you and you get to tell her that she is not allowed to go home.”

  “No, I won’t stop her from going home. I just won’t let her take Ruby with her. Ruby is a little too violent. Although, to be honest, the thought of the chaos she would cause is pretty entertaining.”

  Sarah says “Yes, it would be pretty amusing, but I doubt that it will happen. Even if we can keep our powers, I doubt that there is much, if any, mana on Earth. Ruby needs a large amount of mana to live. I expect that she will decide not to go. I just don’t know what Isabella will decide at that point.”

  “I don’t know either. I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens.”

  Sarah says “What do you think the odds of Earth having mana are?”

  “Slim to none. I don’t know the origin of mana, but I do know that the forces of nature create more. Even if our world used to have mana, considering what we have done to nature it won’t have much now. Although, if there was a massive influx of mana, nature might recover at an extreme rate.”

  Sarah says “Would a bunch of us returning do that?”

  “No. Each return would only bring a small amount of mana with it. Chances are, those who return will only be able to use the mana they have within them. They will not be able to recover their mana once they use it.”

  Sarah says “So even if we do keep our powers, it will only be until we run out of mana? That doesn’t sound good.”

  “Well, only abilities that depend on mana. Class abilities that don’t have a mana cost should continue to work. At least, that is my best guess.”

  Sarah says “Alright. I will brief Melissa so that she knows what to test out before she is resummoned.”

  “Although, there might be a way to give Earth mana.”

  Sarah yells “What?!? How?!”

  “Well, Lin figured out how to modify the spell to allow her to summon items. Which means she can send items back. I have some crystals that contain a massive amount of mana. I just don’t know if even that would be enough to spark a change in the world.”

  Sarah says “More importantly, should you even try? Do you have the right to change our old world?”

  “Why not? Compare our old world to this one? Do you really think the Earth has a future as things stand? It is only a matter of time before it ends up uninhabitable. The only chance humanity has is to get to the point of colonizing space before that happens.”

  Sarah says “I don’t know about that, they could still reverse the damage done and save the planet.”

  “Yes, but that will never happen because there is no profit in it. Besides, it would require most of the population to agree and work towards it. When has even half the population ever agreed on anything?”

  Sarah says “That may be true, but it still doesn’t mean that you should interfere. You should let things follow the path that they are meant to.”

  “Power gives me the right to interfere. It is the rule of our world, those with power can do what they want. Besides, I am just curious about what would happen, I don’t actually plan to waste my crystals to find out. Although, dropping a monster in the white house is something that I might do. That is probably why I am not allowed to learn the spell.”

  Sarah says “The goddesses are very wise!”

  “Yes, they are. It is too bad, I could have had some fun.”

  Sarah says “Only you would think that causing that kind of chaos would be fun.”

  “Nope, not only me. I guarantee that there are at least hundreds of people on Earth who would think exactly the same way.”

  Sarah says “That makes me glad that I am staying here.”

  “Staying here is the smart choice. Going back is going to be extremely dangerous.”

  Sarah says “Why would it be dangerous?”

  “Because, if anyone notices that they are back, those who return have a very high chance of ending up being dissected.”

  Sarah says “That is something that I didn’t think about, but you do have a point.”

  “It is probably something that none of them have thought about.”

  Sarah says “In that case, I will be sure to talk to all of them about it.”

  “You can try, but I doubt you will change their minds. Once people decide on how something is going to go, it is almost impossible to convince them otherwise.”

  Sarah says “Normally, I would agree with you, but these are people who have been summoned to another world, they should be wiser.”

  “I’m just saying don’t get your hopes up.”

  Sarah says “Fine, I won’t. Now, what else do we need to discuss?”

  “Um, just where to place the gate. I was thinking of putting it in the square in front of the palace. What do you think?”

  Sarah says “No. Put it in the square in the merchants quarter. That is where the visiting merchants will want to go anyway. I’d rather not have the extra traffic crossing the city.”

  “Alright, I will do as you say. Now, I just need to find Pol’s subordinate.”

  Sarah says “That’s easy. Just head to the square in the center of the merchant quarter and look for the biggest building there. That is Pol’s building and his people should all be there.”

  “Alright, thank you.”

  Sarah says “You're welcome. Do you want some food before you go?”

  “When have I ever said no to your husband’s food?”

  Sarah just smiles in answer and heads into the back to arrange for a meal for me. I already shifted to my beastman form in order to fit through the door, so I just sit at the bar. One of Sarah’s girls brings me a drink and a few minutes later Sarah brings me an entire platter of food.

  “Thank you.”

  Sarah says “Of course.”

  “Oh, I don’t think I ever asked, what did you do with the old inn and the bar?”

  Sarah says “I found someone that I trusted to run them both for me. I still get a share of the profits from them. Although, technically the profits from the bar should be yours, but I didn’t think you would care.”

  “You are right, I don’t. I haven’t even asked Pol how much money he has made for me. Thanks to him, money isn’t really a concern for me at this point.”

  Sarah says “Honestly, it isn’t for me either. It is just a way to keep score of how I am doing. There isn’t really anything that I want to buy.”

  “You seemed to enjoy using my authority as a noble, would you like a noble title of your own?”
