Chapter 3 Death of his family, memories in rain

Lyle Maze was siting at the edge of his sisters bed, his parents had just died

yesterday, and he could tell that his sister was at the end of the line. “Lyle make

me a promise, help people when you can.” Lyle listened closely to her words

before he answered. “I will do everything in my power to help those I can.”

“Good to hear!” A small smile crossing her lips, before her eyes went dim.

With that Lyle was left all alone.

Lyle walked around his home, searching through pocket sized photos of his

family, and once found, placing them in his wallet. A deep sigh escapes Lyle’s

mouth, his sister was about to start her life, she had just a few more months

of high school left, and then she would have gone to collage.

Lyle carried his sisters body to the back yard, where he had dug graves for

his parents yesterday, he would now do the same for her. Lyle took the shovel,

pushing to tip to the ground he begins to dig. When he is finished, he drops

his sisters body into her fresh new grave. Tears stream down his eyes, as

he covers her corpse with soil. Something was bugging Lyle, why did it

take longer for his family to die compared to everyone else.

Lyle went back to his room. Memories of trips with his family filled his mind.

The carnival they went to, at the time his sister was just two years old., now

she had been seventeen, Lyle was currently twenty three. Back then he would

have been eight years old. He had played a game there, and had won a big pink

stuffed rabbit for her, the thing was massive, I mean she still had it, and it was

still bigger then her. Lyle went into her room to see the stuffed rabbit, he pulled

it close to him, and held it tightly. A wave of tears started to fall from his eyes,

hitting the floor in a rhythmic pattern.

Lyle picked up his sister’s diary, he knew diaries were private, but he wanted

more of his sister to carry in his heart. Lyle begins to read the pages.

“Dear diary, today my brother Lyle saved me and Meghan from the mean cat

next door.” “Dear diary, Lyle gave me his popsicle when mine fell to the floor.”

“Dear diary my brother Lyle missed his chance at having a girlfriend.” Lyle

read over the last part he just read. (When was this I wonder?) Lyle was shocked

he missed a chance to have a girlfriend and did not even know it. “Dear diary,

Lyle helped me with my homework. He is amazing when it comes to math.”

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

“Dear diary, I got Lyle a portable gaming system for his birthday, but I have lost

it somewhere in the house.” (Really, then she never found it? Could it still be in

  the house somewhere?)

“Dear diary, today we went to a petting zoo, we same a white rabbit with pink eyes.

Lyle told me that it was and albino rabbit. I asked him what albino meant and he

said the rabbit had no pigment. I then asked him what pigment meant, and he told

me that, the thing that tells you what color something should be.”

“Dear diary, my mother told me Lyle got into a fight with a bully, and not to go

in his room, since he needed to rest to recover from the pain.” Lyle laughs, he

remembers that fight, the bully was hurting a chicken, and Lyle told him to stop,

but when he would not listen, Lyle punched him in the face, that is when the counter

  attack began.

“Dear diary, Meghan told me she has a crush on Lyle, I keep trying to tell her, Lyle

likes woman older than him, if not older, the woman should at least be very mature.

Meghan is in no way mature She fight with her mother over something as stupid

as a popsicle stick.” Lyle recalls when Meghan had asked him out. “Sorry Meghan,

but you are not my type of woman.” Those where the exact words he spoke back

  then.

“Dear diary, today Lyle told me we would soon have a baby sister, our mother

told me the same thing. Dad was not home at the time, and when he got home

I asked him what we would name our little sister. Dad was confused. Both

Lyle and my mother burst out into laughter. April fools! They both said at

the same time. That was mean of them, not only for me but for dad as well.

I got them both back the next day, when I made them breakfast.” (That is

right, she put a drop of hot sauces in all the food. Our father left earlier, so

he did not have to deal with that mess.) Lyle could not help but laugh at

all of their behavior, for that month. The pranks went out of control,

the fire department had to be called, after one of them put a ton of oil in

the eggs, and an oil fire started.

“Dear diary, I came out to Lyle today, he was so supportive, and I know

he will help me have the courage to tell my parents. I trust and love my

brother for all he has done for me.” (She was going to tell them, the

day that this all started, but now it was to late.) Lyle thinking back

on this, the tears flowing like a waterfall now.

Lyle walked up into the attic, searching through boxes. Drawings made

by both Lyle and his sister were in one box. Even now the drawings his

sister made when she was four years old, was still better then anything he

  could draw.

Lyle found a small white box hidden under a dresser. He pulled it out, opens the

box and finds two things, a card, and a small digital pet. Lyle reads the card.

“Happy thirteenth birthday Lyle, from your little sister.” (I guess back then,

she was to young to know the difference between a portal gaming system, and

a digital pet.) This is Lyle’s thoughts, as he retrieves a string from the dresser,

and creates a makeshift necklace, so he can always carry this gift with him.

(Sure it does not work, with all electronics now no longer functioning, but

it was a gift after all, from my only little sister.)

Lyle walked into the kitchen. I thought about the day they all went to the

beach together. It had started to down pour out of nowhere, but this made

both Lyle and his sister want to go in the ocean even more. Lyle vividly

remembered the feeling of the rain as it hit his face. As Lyle immersed

himself in the memory, it was like he could really feel the cold rain on his

face. Lyle steps in a puddle that was not in the kitchen a few seconds ago.

(Dammit, where did this puddle come from.) Lyle checks to see if any

of the windows are opened. When he looks outside he only sees sunlight.

Lyle suddenly feels a droplet hit his head. Looking up he sees a small

rain cloud above his head. (What the fuck!?) The same words he is thinking

also escape his lips. “What the fuck!?”
