Chapter 664: Just a Fan

A man who appeared to be in his early twenties trembled as he clenched the Xiyi Talisman in his hand. He was handsome and had an air of aristocracy about him instead of the detachment common to cultivators. His name was Mi Fengsi.

He was not an aristocratic noble of a mortal nation, but a member of a cultivation clan. They weren’t considered particularly powerful, not even possessing a true immortal. Still, as the son of the patriarch, his status was noble and far beyond mortal rulers.

When Mi Fengsi was young, he was lauded as a genius, and he lived up to his clansmen’s praises. He couldn’t compare to those monstrous geniuses of third-rate forces and above, but for the Mi Clan, it was astounding. They called him a potential immortal seed.

Although the success of overcoming the Immortal Ascension Heavenly Tribulation increased with the prosperous cultivation environment, the success rate was still pitiful compared to the number of cultivators on the path. Being granted the title just emphasized how much hope and expectation the clan placed on him.

Unfortunately, Mi Fengsi lost the title.

He was not like some protagonists, who lost their talent or had their physiques stolen. In fact, Mi Fengsi did not have such a physique. He had two perfect spiritual roots, but his brother had a heavenly spiritual root.

The Mi Clan thought about sending their immortal seed to a powerful force as a disciple, but the closest force was a third-rate force. Even if their immortal seed joined it, the amount of resources and effort the third-rate force invested in a single disciple would not exceed the entire Mi Clan’s devoted efforts. And a second-rate force was too far away. The long distance not only represented the danger of traveling but also the untimeliness of any reinforcement and aid should an accident occur to their immortal seed.

In the end, the Mi Clan chose not to send their beloved immortal seed to a more powerful force. So, neither Mi Fengsi nor his younger brother left the clan. The clan only had enough resources to gamble on one of them, and they chose Mi Fengsi’s brother when he showed his superior talent.

Mi Fengsi did not harbor thoughts of killing his younger brother to monopolize all their resources. Their relationship couldn’t be called close because of the limited resources, but it had not degenerated to the point where one side needed to kill the other.

If the clan did not want to invest many resources in him, so be it. Mi Fengsi planned to join a third-rate force nearby. Although he was a bit old, he still had a chance to join the sect. Although it could not compare to the Mi Clan’s devoted investment, it was much better than his current awkward situation.

Only, he never expected his father to stop him. The Mi Clan had gone all out in their gamble. They wanted him to act as a smokescreen for his younger brother. This chilled Mi Fengsi’s heart, and he finally understood the ruthlessness of the immortal path.

He had argued and thrown a tantrum, but it could not change his father’s mind. The only one who still empathized with him was his mother. Because of the secrecy, many members still valued him and treated him with respect, but Mi Fengsi knew that they would direct their admiration and respect to his younger brother once he no longer needed to act like a shield.

Was Mi Fengsi willing? Of course not.

Mi Fengsi pushed himself to the limit, wanting to show the Mi Clan that he was worth their efforts more. However, his brother surpassed him. Below the Core Formation Realm, he and his younger brother received the same amount of resources. It wasn’t just the two brothers, but their other half-brothers too.

When his younger brother became a core formation master, he was still a foundation establishment disciple. It was also at that time that Mi Fengsi stepped into the shadows for his brother to enter the light. All the praise that was once heaped on him transferred to his brother.

Mi Fengsi did not give up. He cultivated like his life depended on it, and he entered the Core Formation Realm, but at that time, his brother had already undergone the Wind Tribulation and entered the Polished Core Stage. When Mi Fengsi attained a polished core, his brother completed the Fire Tribulation and entered the Tempered Core Stage.

When he was stuck at the Polished Core Stage, his brother overcame the Lightning Tribulation and obtained a purified core, reaching the peak of the Core Formation Realm. When Mi Fengsi finally entered the Tempered Core Stage, his brother had undergone the Nascent Soul Heavenly Tribulation, successfully becoming a nascent soul grandmaster!

It was the lowest point in Mi Fengsi’s life. All his efforts seemed pointless. It was as if life told him that he could not touch his brother’s shadow, no matter what he did. Mi Fengsi had two options at that point: go crazy or give up.

  He chose the latter.

Mi Fengsi no longer cultivated like crazy. He no longer left the clan grounds to seek resources and opportunities. He had completely let himself go. The Xiyinet, which he once distanced himself from, became his sustenance. Perhaps out of guilt, his father did not limit his access to spirit stones, a renewable and easily acquired resource, which allowed him to roam and boast on the Xiyinet, garnering the admiration of countless mortals.

Of course, Mi Fengsi did not spend too many spirit stones. What he wanted was entertainment, not resources through the Xiyinet. It was also at this time that he discovered Sovereign Thrallsong’s channel and became an instant fan. Although it did not reignite his passion for cultivation, he was no longer decadent.

Surprisingly, Mi Fengsi discovered that his cultivation speed actually increased despite his lackluster attitude. That didn’t make him a servant again, and he just let nature take its course. Before he knew it, he had reached the Unity Realm.

His father was surprised by this. He had thought the limit of the Nascent Soul Realm would be his elder son’s limit since Mi Fengsi no longer traveled to seek out resources. For the Mi Clan, a venerable-level combatant was still an important force, so he wanted to host a banquet, but Mi Fengsi rejected it.

It was not that he held a grudge, but Mi Fengsi no longer sought such attention. For the clan, one more grandmaster would not change too much, and his father agreed. He could let Mi Fengsi act as a secret force. Because of this, he allocated more allowance and resources to Mi Fengsi. Even if he could not become immortal, it was still possible to become a saint.

Not long after, his younger brother became a transcending mortality saint, and the entire clan celebrated. Mi Fengsi showed up. He wasn’t bullied. After all, he was still a respected venerable. The strongest of his generation was only at the early Nascent Soul Realm, and the majority were stuck at the peak of the Foundation Establishment Realm.

Mi Fengsi was envious of his younger brother, but only a little bit. Life went on, and before he knew it, he had also entered the Transcending Mortality Realm. People called them the Twin Stars of the Mi Clan, but most of the attention was still on his younger brother, since Mi Fengsi rarely showed up in public.

Thousands of years later, Mi Fengsi had become a true immortal, while his more valued younger brother had turned to dust. The irony was not lost on him. The one the clan placed their hopes on failed, while the one they abandoned had succeeded.

Not to say that his younger brother failed without reason. Where people existed, so did conflict. The Mi Clan was not the only force in the area, and they had their fair share of rivals. How could they watch the Mi Clan produce a true immortal?

Of course, the Mi Clan did not just rest on their laurels and wait for Mi Fengsi’s younger brother to reach the Pathfinding Immortal Realm. They had thwarted many traps and schemes prepared by their enemies. No, the Mi Clan’s immortal seed died in the midst of his Immortal Ascension Heavenly Tribulation. Specifically, his Inner Devil Tribulation.

The countless schemes produced a chink in the willpower of Mi Fengsi’s younger brother. One which caused him to fail his tribulation.

Because he had already overcome the tribulation lightning, his body became close to that of an immortal, but his soul was lacking. The pressure of his body weakened his soul, causing it to slowly dissipate. From the high and mighty immortal seed of the Mi Clan, he became an earth immortal, a failed immortal.

Since young, Mi Fengsi’s younger brother had always thought he would become a true immortal and raise the Mi Clan to a higher level. This failure made him lose hope. He didn’t even have a chance to reincarnate, unlike the cultivators who failed the lightning tribulation. Because of this, he didn’t last long, not even a thousand years before his willpower reached its limit, and he died, leaving behind his immortal corpse.

The hostile forces did not do anything much in the later period. Perhaps they were satisfied and did not want to make the Mi Clan explode in rage. Even if the Mi Clan perished, they would have to pay a high price. Ironically, this gave Mi Fengsi more time, and it contributed to his successful Immortal Ascension Heavenly Tribulation.

Although they did not have the best of relationships, Mi Fengsi still helped avenge his younger brother. Although he had become a true immortal, it didn’t mean he could sweep all the Mi Clan’s enemies, especially those with deep foundations and a guardian formation. His actions still cleared out the immediate vicinity and increased the Mi Clan’s territory.

After that, Mi Fengsi did not allow the Mi Clan to expand. They were already pushing it with the clan’s current cultivators. Any more and they would be stretched too thin. The Mi Clan focused on stabilizing their foundation and producing more talents and, hopefully, another true immortal.

Mi Fengsi did not change his routine after becoming a true immortal. He still surfed the Xiyinet, but that didn’t mean he didn’t cultivate seriously. He would enter secluded meditation to comprehend a worldly law, but if an immortal event was coming up, he would immediately exit.

His father had tried to change it many times, but Mi Fengsi was already a true immortal. His father had become a transcending mortality saint, far from enough to influence a true immortal. And he had no hope of overcoming his Immortal Ascension Heavenly Tribulation. The best he could do was become an earth immortal capable of reincarnation.

It would be a lie to say Mi Fengsi didn’t take a small amount of pleasure in his father’s frustration. However, that was all in the past. His father had returned to dust like his younger brother for a long time. As did many of his close family and friends. None of them had reached the same realm as he had.

The current Mi Clan produced two more true immortals, allowing them to have the power and foundation of a true third-rate force. Granted, it was still a third-rate force on the lower end, but still astonishing for their current region. However, he was not close to anyone in his clan.

Mi Fengsi didn’t have many friends among true immortals either. He lived like a mortal, making him an oddball, but he didn’t care. He had made many friends on the Xiyinet, and he wouldn’t be lonely. Though they would die, Mi Fengsi continued to make new friends.

Such a lifestyle made many cultivators think his willpower wasn’t very strong, and he would die younger than most true immortals. Surprisingly, Mi Fengsi lived far longer than most true immortals. Even though he had become an immortal lord, it was still shocking.

The long years had made Mi Fengsi more emotionally distant. However, an event made his emotional detachment disappear—Sovereign Thrallsong’s concert. His emotions may have dulled, but his passion as a fan never dimmed.

Unfortunately, Mi Fengsi did not have enough wealth to purchase a ticket. Even if he sold the entire Mi Clan, it wouldn’t be enough. Granted, he would not really sell the Mi Clan. He was a fan, not a psychopath.

Luckily, he had a friend on the Xiyinet who was lucky enough to win one through the lottery, earning him the jealousy of everyone in the group, including Mi Fengsi himself. Mi Fengsi gave him a private message, offering to purchase the ticket.

It just so happened that the man had a child who was tested to have the talent to cultivate. He was just worried about his child’s future, and to his shock, he learned that the administrator of the fan group he was in was actually an immortal!

The two quickly hit it off.

The Thrallsong Concert ticket was linked to the Xiyi Talisman. Unless the owner voluntarily relinquished or traded it, no one else could get it.

And so, Mi Fengsi waited with excitement. He couldn’t stay still, his feet tapping to the rhythm of Sovereign Thrallsong’s music. When that couldn’t calm him down, he walked a bit more, shocking the Mi Clan members who saw this elusive ancestor. Even the other true immortals had been alarmed.

The wait was torturous for Mi Fengsi. The months felt longer than even the past tens of thousands of years to him, but he made it. He finally waited for the seventh day of the seventh month to arrive.

A notification appeared on the Xiyi Talisman, alerting him.

Mi Fengsi wondered how he would get to the concert. The ticket only said to wait for the invitation. He thought it would be an invitation to a virtual space. The virtual space was very useful. The Mi Clan used it to host many important meetings to prevent outsiders from gathering any information.

To the immortal lord’s shock, a portal opened in front of him. Mi Fengsi was not some country bumpkin and recognized the power of space. He couldn’t help but think—would a portal appear to every ticket holder?

How great must the creator of the portal be? Mi Fengsi could think of only one person, the Nine Heavens Prince. As the creator of the Xiyinet, everyone knew of his spatial prowess. Some even considered him the god of space, but most called him the God of the Xiyinet.

It would not be incorrect to call the Nine Heavens Prince the existence with the greatest amount of faith in the entire Three Thousand Immortal Realms System.

Mi Fengsi didn’t think about it for too long. He walked through the portal. Logic dictated that he should be warier, but he knew that he was not worth the lofty prince’s special attention. Besides, he was an ardent fan of Sovereign Thrallsong!
