Chapter 109: The Moment of Excitement

Chapter 109: The Moment of Excitement

"Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny"

"Judy Davis in 'My Brilliant Career'"

  "April Love" by Pat Boone

  "Uma Thurman 'Pulp'"

  "Miranda Richardson in The Hours"

Mercedes Ruehl finished reading the nominees for Best Supporting Actress and then opened another envelope in her hand, saying: "And the winner of this year's Oscar for Best Supporting Actress is!"

"Marisa Tomei in My Cousin Vinny"

"Congratulations to Marisa Tomei for winning this year's Oscar for Best Supporting Actress!"

  "Bang bang bang~~~"

"Oh my god, is it me? Is it really me?" Marisa Tomei said in stunned disbelief as Mercedes Ruehl announced the winner of Best Supporting Actress.

"Yes, dear Marisa, it's you! Congratulations!" Looking at the still surprised Marisa, Jonathan Lynn, director of "My Cousin Vinny", was equally thrilled and gave a tight hug to the stunned Marisa before reminding her to hurry up on stage to receive the award.

"Thank you, director, thank you so much!" Marissa only realized that this was not the time to be surprised after hearing Jonason's reminder. However, Marissa was still very excited and said thanks to Jonason before hastily walking towards the stage.

Marisa Tomei was born on January 4, 1964 in Brooklyn, New York to Gary A. Tomei, a trial lawyer and Patricia, an English teacher. She has a younger brother Adam. As a child she loved watching movies and spent hours at the cinema, developing a strong interest in acting, being a fan of Gene Kelly.

Tomei began performing and dancing at a young age, joining the Line Dance Company at 12. She graduated from Edward R. Murrow High School in Brooklyn, New York. While still attending Boston University, Tomei was picked for a role on the CBS daytime drama As the World Turns and won a Theater World Award. She also appeared in another soap opera, One Life to Live, and played the daughter of Sapmen in the stage play The Real Thing, earning her an Emmy Award nomination. All this helped lay a solid foundation for her future entry into film and television.

In 1991, she played the daughter of action star Sylvester Stallone in the family comedy film Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot, showcasing her comedic talent. That same year, she was named one of 12 "Promising New Actors of 1991" in John Willis' Screen World. In this film, My Cousin Vinny is a crime comedy, and it can be said that Jonathan's film is almost tailor-made for Marisa, and Marisa did not disappoint, performing amazingly in the film, which also made Marisa win this award today.

"Congratulations, Marisa! Congratulations on winning the Best Supporting Actress award!" Mercedes Ruhl gave Marisa Tomei a deep hug and then handed her the Oscar statuette for Best Supporting Actress, smiling in congratulations.

"Thank you! I really thank you!" Marisa looked at the Oscar statuette in her hand, and could no longer hold back tears of excitement.

  "Bang bang bang~~~"

Looking at the host stage, Marisa with tears in her eyes, the whole audience, whether they like Marisa or not, sent their most sincere blessings!

"Thank you, everyone. Thank you." Marissa bowed to the audience below, wiping away tears from her face, and said excitedly: "Thanks to all the judges for giving me this opportunity, and also thanks to my director Mr. Jonassen, I'm really thrilled to be standing here, I'm truly thrilled! In short, I want to thank everyone!"

"Alas, the flowers have fallen!" Song Tang couldn't help but feel a sense of melancholy at this scene. Whether it was Best Supporting Actor or Actress, or the awards that had just been given out, each and every one of them represented an honor, as well as recognition. Although up until now, his own films hadn't won Best Supporting Actor or Actress, he couldn't help but feel a little regretful. But this was also a result, Song Tang sighed to himself repeatedly.

"What a pity, Song! No Best Actor or Actress award. What a shame!" Steven said with a smile, patting Song Tang's shoulder who remained silent.

"Yes, it's a bit regrettable, but I'm also helpless! Although I wanted to win and my actors also wanted to win, you saw that both Gene, the best supporting actor, and Marisa, the best supporting actress, were excellent! Compared to Samuel and Uma, although they performed well too, but after all, neither of them had an advantage!" Song Tang said, looking at Samuel and Uma who were still applauding, but with a strong sense of disappointment in their eyes.

"Don't worry, both 'Pulp Fiction' and 'The Shawshank Redemption' are excellent movies, and both have a good chance of winning the next award. It's just that the Oscars voters pay great attention to balance! Getting one award is easy, but wanting more might be a bit difficult." Steven thought for a moment before explaining some common sense about the Oscars selection process to Song Tang.

"Yes, but we'll have to wait and see what the judges think next." Song Tang nodded in agreement after hearing Steven's words.

"What a touching speech! I almost have the urge to cry, I think everyone has this idea, every year at the Oscars there is such a moving scene. Once again congratulations to Miss Marisa for achieving even more brilliant results on her acting path!" Billy continued to show off on stage.

"Alright, ladies and gentlemen, after the awards for Best Supporting Actor and Actress have been presented, many people are excited, while others are disappointed. But what's coming up next is the real highlight of the past few days, and it's also a thrilling moment! Friends, ladies and gentlemen, let's cheer enthusiastically! Let's see which award will be presented next! Will the Best Actor and Actress awards be announced soon?" Billy said, his eyes scanning the judges' table. As he spoke, his actions drew the attention of the audience below.

In an instant, Billy turned around with a smile and said: "Oh God, next is the Best Adapted Screenplay award, no kidding, it's really surprising, I thought it would be the Best Actor award, looks like the Best Actor and Actress will have to wait, but that's okay, the Best Adapted Screenplay is also a highlight of the Oscars, although its weight may not exceed that of the Best Actor and Actress, but let's not forget, if we didn't have good screenwriters in Hollywood, oh no, in our film industry, our directors wouldn't be able to make so many thrilling movies, and without these great films, where would our Best Actors and Actresses come from? Right, everyone?"

"Haha!" As soon as Billy's words fell, the scene suddenly burst into a murmur, but no one went to refute him, because everyone knew that what Billy said was not wrong. In Song Tang's view, the reason why Chinese films are not well-known internationally and cannot compare with some European and American films is not that China lacks good directors, but rather that it lacks outstanding screenwriters. After hearing Billy's words, Song Tang nodded in agreement!

"Alright everyone, I think many of you are scolding me in your hearts right now. Don't laugh, what I'm saying is the truth. Although you're not saying it out loud, many of you are cursing me for being long-winded. I admit that I want to steal the spotlight, but can't you all just understand me a little bit?!" Billy continued shamelessly.

"Our next presenter is someone who I think will surprise many of you, and also surprised me. But I'm sure everyone will love her, she's also an actress we admire very much because she once starred in a movie with the sex goddess Marilyn Monroe, although at that time she was not yet famous. By now, I think you should know who I am talking about!"

"Though we are all surprised, and I am equally surprised, this does not deter our applause. Let us cheer, comrades! Let us welcome Annie Bancroft!"

"It was her." Anne Bancroft, a famous Hollywood actress in the United States, was born on September 17, 1931, in Bronx, New York. Her original name is Anna Maria Louisa Italiano, and her parents are Italian immigrants. She began performing dance on stage at the age of four, later studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and furthered her studies at the Actors Studio. In 1950, she made her professional debut under the name Anne Marno. In 1952, she starred in her first film "Don't Bother to Knock" with Marilyn Monroe, playing a small role. In the following years, Anne Bancroft shot some B-movies in Hollywood, only in "The Last Frontier" did she play the wife of a cavalry colonel, which had some depth.

In 1958, Anne returned to New York and starred in two plays written by William Gibson: "Two for the Seesaw" and "The Miracle Worker". The former was co-starred with Henry Fonda, and she won a Tony Award for her outstanding performance. The latter depicted a segment of the life of Helen Keller, an American deaf-blind educator, and Anne played the role of Annie Sullivan, a female teacher who taught Helen Keller. Her touching performance earned her a New York Drama Critics' Circle Award and a second Tony Award. Both plays were directed by Arthur Penn. In 1962, "The Miracle Worker" was adapted into a film, still directed by Penn, who insisted that Anne Bancroft play the role of Annie Sullivan again. She won the 35th Academy Award for Best Actress, as well as the National Board of Review Award for Best Actress and the British Film and Television Arts Academy Award for Best Foreign Actress.

When Song Tang heard Billy shout out the award for Best Adapted Screenplay, Song Tang was also surprised. What surprised Song Tang was that he didn't expect an actor to be presenting the award for Best Adapted Screenplay, but many people were just as surprised as Song Tang!
