Things moved quickly after that. They sent me documents to sign, I packed my standard issue gear, and I was off on the first ship. I woke up a month later to my new base.

  I and a few others, who turned out to be volunteers from the marines, army, and navy were sent down on a pelican. We landed on the base and hopped out. We were greeted by a second lieutenant with a clipboard.

  "Good day and welcome to Base 1-1. You all will be set up in the barracks, then there's orientation in the morn. That is all. If you would follow me?" The woman stated.

  We followed her to the barracks indicated and we all set up. I offloaded my things in the locker provided, and looked around at the others.

  Most were enlisted, with only one other officer here, including me now. I observed for a while before going to the gym on base. When I got there, I first started on a run to recheck my legs. Despite the therapy and such, despite my own checks, it was good to know that I could run. It was truly liberating, really.

  She then went to work on her core. She was at it for a while when she heard a polite cough behind her. She turned and saw the 2nd Lieutenant.

  "Ahem. Good day..." the boy said awkwardly. And boy he was. He hadn't a Scar on him, looked less then 18, and he was still in full uniform in a gym.

  "Hello. What can I do for you lieutenant..."

  He coughed slightly. "James. 2nd Lieutenant James."

  "Sar- Ahem. 2nd Lieutenant Nivka."

  His eyebrow twitched a bit, before he coughed again. "I just wanted to meet the other officer in our, uhhh... Unit? Get to know each other, if we're going to work together."

  My gaze was distinctly unimpressed as I gazed at the kid. Was this a pass? Hell, I've seen better from green privates on their first deployment if it was.

  I nodded slowly. "Very well lieutenant James. How would you like to do this then." I asked. I'll admit I'm curious to the reply.

  "Ahem. We can head to an office for a conversation at your leisure, if you want?"

  "Fine. Give me 10 to clean up the gym."

  He nodded before scurrying away. I gazed at him as he left, and snorted. This aught to be good.
