Chapter 7

  A new life

  Her eyes fluttered open. She was in a giant and spacious room, lying on a rug on the floor. She yawned, sitting up. This room is so big.. She thought to herself. She wasn’t used to big rooms, or any rooms at all. She glanced around again. There was a big-ish rock on the other side of the room, a patch of grass, and an underwater pool of water for bathing. There was also a smaller hole in the ground for drinking water. Kane walked in, “Hey, love, how’d you sleep?” he said, smiling and walking in. “Pretty good,” She said, still sitting on the rug. “Hey, love?” He said, confused. “Yeah? What’s up?” she said, tilting her head at him. “Did you sleep on the floor….?” he asked, amused. “Yeah? This was a comfortable spot, where else was I supposed to sleep?” she asked, confused. “Love, there's a bed over there,” He gestured to the rock on the other side of the room. “Oh….what’s a bed?” she said, even more confused. Kane’s eyes softened, “It’s something made for you to sleep on,” he explained. “Oh, I usually sleep on things like just a nice bed of grass or in a big tree branch,” she responded. Hm… maybe I can make something for her while she’s out… Kane thought. “Alright, come to breakfast,” he said to her, turning to leave. “Okay,” Celeste said, stretching. “I’ll get breakfast,” she said, standing up and starting to catch up to him. He stopped walking, and she halted quickly too, almost falling over. “ ‘Get breakfast’? Oh, love, no. The guards will get it for us,” he said, watching as her face looked at him in confusion. “They will? Oh, I usually hunt for everyone, though,” she said to him. I kinda liked hunting though… she thought, her face falling. “But if you want to hunt, then we don’t have to send guards,” Kane said quickly, making sure she wasn’t sad. Celeste’s face brightened, “Okay! I’ll head out now!” Celeste said, running down the halls. Kane ran after her, “WAIT CELESTE, BE CAREFUL YOU DON’T KNOW THE HALLWAY’S YOU MIGHT GET LOST!” he yelled after her. He halted, realizing he had lost her. “Uh….Kane?” her voice echoed on the walls. “I’m coming!” He said, running down the path to the sound of her voice. He ran and saw her in the garden. It was a beautiful underground cavern, just the right size. It had edibles, fruit, and flowers. He saw her surrounded by butterflies; she was laughing as the butterflies surrounded her. He stopped for a moment, smiling contentedly. She's so pretty, he thought, his eyes softening as he continued to look at the dame. “You’re staring.” She said, somehow noticing without looking. He turned bright red and stammered, “R-right Y-yeah, I was just- I thought the butterflies were beautiful….yeah…” “Sure, Kane,” She laughed, finally looking at him and smiling brightly. He found himself thinking many things; How did I get this lucky….she’s so amazing…. “Oh, right, I was lost. Where is the way out again?” She smiled innocently. Kane laughed, shaking his head and smiling at her, “Alright, let's go.” he led her out and watched her practically say bye to a bundle of butterflies. He chuckled lightly, “Cmon, love.” She followed him as he lead the way out, blushing of course because of his ‘Love,’ comment. She always did, but tried to play it cool; she was still new to this mate thing after all. They continued walking down the stone halls, Celestes’ tail swaying back and forth happily as Kanes swayed in a specific pattern, almost practiced. “I’m gonna go hunt now!” she said happily as they made it to the entrance, the sun shining and casting a warm glow. Celeste’s restlessness was impossible to miss. She slipped out of the grand halls and into the forest, her paws barely making a sound on the damp earth. Unbeknownst to her, Kane followed at a distance, curiosity pulling him along.
