An offer from a rogue (part 2)

  Chapter 13

It was early morning. The floor boards creaked.

Titan woke up rising from his bed quickly with his Axiom Edge in hand.

He listened closely and heard a noise down stairs that shouldn’t be here.

Titan eased his bedroom door open and crept toward the stairs.

It was dark. He made no sound as he moved. He saw a shadow figure of a tall man move to the stairs.

He felt a force push him back inside his room.

A second later he heard a loud male gasp before it was cut short. Silence fell again in the house.

Caroline peeked her head inside his room. “Hey. Honey. You have two hours until your next job. Could you please get some sleep. I got to take out the trash.”

Titan sighed. He scratched his chin. “Alright. I’ll get some sleep.” He said walked to his bed.

She grinned at him and closed the door.

Titan slipped into his bed and the moment his head touched the bed he fell asleep.

Titan didn’t dream or think but when he heard a knock at his door he sat up in bed.

His mother was smiling at him bringing in a breakfast table. There was a plate of sausages, ham, eggs and beans.

The moment she put the breakfast table tray on his bed Titan started eating.

Caroline stared at her son with a sad smile. “You’re using up your energy almost every day now. Your check came into your bank account today.”

Titan looked at her. “Check?! That’s good. Whose it from?” He asked.

Caroline sighed. “You’re a government agent. You went on an assignment. They paid you for that assignment.”

Titan shrugged and kept eating. “More money. You can put it toward the mortgage or buy something nice.”

“Titan.” Caroline said his name gently.

Titan looked up at her with food in his mouth. He raised an eyebrow.

“I’m not going to touch your government money. That’s your money. You can use that to get yourself a new car or anything you like.” Caroline said.

Tita grinned. “Okay. I don’t need anything right now. I just need to get some money and work. Speaking which I got a awesome job today.”

Caroline held up a hand. “I don’t want to hear about it. Is this girl you like really a teacher.” She said.

“She’s sage and beautiful and she has a PhD in magic.” Titan said.

Caroline’s eyes went wide and then she smiled slowly. “Oh. I understand now. She must have fallen in love with you at first sight.” She said.

Titan grinned. “I hope so. I’m going to take her on a coffee date when I can make the time for it.”

Caroline leaned down and kissed his cheek. She grinned at him. “She likes you. You are a handsome, interesting man. Sages are curious people.”

Titan grinned and shoveled the last eggs into his mouth. He looked down at his empty plate.

“Wow. That was good.” Titan said.

Caroline giggled. “I’ll have a big dinner ready for you when you come back. You need to consume a lot of protein.” She said.

Titan sighed and he nodded his head. “Yeah. I’m still at a low level now. I’m going to level up and get there.” He said.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Caroline nodded her head. “You’ll get there but you need to be careful on your way up.” She said.

Titan stared at her. “I’m not going to be reckless with my life. I’m dungeon crawling to help us until his house is paid off and Kristy is in college.”

Caroline smiled. She ran a hand through his hair. “Don’t forget to take the time to invite that girl you like out.” She said.

Titan nodded and set the breakfast tray. “I will. I got to get dressed. The guys should be over in a minute.”

He walked to his bathroom quickly and started the shower. He washed, brushed his teeth and then he dressed in a suit.

Titan pushed up his glasses up the rim of his nose and he smiled.

He turned to the door and grabbed up his weapon from bed.

“Titan. Can I come in?” Kristy said.

“Yeah. Come in.” He said, turning toward the door.

He put his weapon into the sheath and put the belt across the front of his chest.

Kristy came in dressed in her academy blue school uniform. She looked at him with wide eyes.

“You’re going out again to another dungeon?” She asked.

“Yeah. I’m going to hunt for an item in a dungeon for a client. It’s going to be a quick dash and run out. I don’t plan on fighting.” Titan said with a grin.

Kristy looked at him. “You really enjoy it don’t you. Dungeon crawling. Fighting monsters.” She said.

Titan laughed. “I enjoy making money. Right now I’m not a strong fighter. This is different. I have a simple job. Find a treasure and get it back to the client without fighting and avoiding monsters.”

Kristy stared at him and then sighed. “I’m going to work hard to get college scholarships and grants.”

Titan nodded and he smiled. suddenly. “Yeah. You just gave me some ideas.” He said and then he heard a car hunk. “That’s my ride. I’m going out to work.”

Titan kissed Kristy’s cheek and hurried out of his room. He leaped off the top stairs and second later he was opening the front door and leaving out.

The Rough RIders were waiting in the van. Charlie at the wheel. Titan walked toward the van in a hurry.

  “Titan!”

Titan turned to see his mother coming out of the house with a purple lunch box. He smiled and took the box.

Caroline gave him a kiss before waving him off. “Go on. Come home safe and unharmed.” She said.

Titan grinned. “I’ll do my best to come back without another scar.” He said.

Titan hurried to the open van and got into the side door. He closed the door once he was in side and Charlie took off.

Ronald looked at him. “You’ve gotten confident in your Psi powers. You got everything you need?”

Titan nodded and took out the ebony jeweled dagger from his magic bag. “I plan to use this to help find the sister dagger and then use it to get out as fast as possible.”

Ronald laughed. “We’ll see about that young blood. Once you walk into the South Wind. That greed and gold will get to you. The key is your focus.” He said.

Titan grinned and a violet glow appeared in his eyes. “Yeah. That’s what’s going to make this shit a rush. Rough Riders are going to be the first guild to clear it. I’m going for one treasure for as many times as I can.”

Ronald stared at him. A slow smile appeared on his face. “I’ve been on twelve raids of this dungeon. All failures. This time. I think it’s going to be fun to see what we can do with you on board.”

Titan bumped fists with Ronald. “This is going to a wild bro. We’re going to kick some ass.”

Ronald nodded his head. “Okay. Young blood. You find treasure for the client and we’ll block and knock away anything that gets in your way to the exit.”

“Something else.” Titan said and then he held up his magical bag. “What can you tell me about this?”

Ronald rubbed his chin. “It’s a magical bag. I think it can hold up to sixty items in it depending on whether it has been damaged or your own level.”

“Titan. I already told you that stuff when you got it on your first monster drop.” Charlie said.

“Does the magical space operate with in the same space as our time or does it changed based on the space time in a dungeon?”

  “Holy shit.” Ronald said.

“What? Stupid question?” Titan said with a grin.

Ronald shook his head. “No No. Insightful question. I don’t know but I think the space magical in the bag operates by it’s own principles depending on the charm cast on it when it was made. Why do you ask?”

“I was thinking the magic in the bag might be resistant to the dungeon magic.” Titan said.

“What? That’s not how that works. Wait a minute?! Shit.” Ronald groaned. “Of course. You're a Psi ”

Charlie chuckled. “Go on Titan. What was your plan with the magic bag?”

“If I gave the bag to Ron to use he can grab gold when I make my dash and exit the dungeon? If I don’t get the first time then Ron might be able to keep some gold.” Titan asked.

Ronald stared at him and then closed his eyes. “Fucking hell. My head hurts.”

  “What?” Titan said.

Ronald snorted and shook his head. “I don’t know Young Blood. You can loan it to me and I’ll see if it works. But, if I get caught in the greed spell then I won’t be of any use to you.”

Titan handed him the bag. “That’s fine. We might as well try it out you know. I’ll be too busy mapping out the route to the exit during our way up and when I find the dagger all I’ll be thinking about is racing to the exit.”

“I can’t believe it.” Hank said up front in the passenger seat.

“What can’t you believe?” Titan asked.

“We’re going to beat the tower of greed.” Charlie said.

Ronald sighed as the others all laughed. He looked at the magic bag in his hand. “This is going to be an interesting dungeon raid.”
