Dear Dad,

  The nice guy in charge of this town? Village? Place. Gave me some stuff so I could write a letter to you. He said that he's got a way of making sure it gets to you, and I hope he's telling the truth, but I just gotta hope he is.

  Anthamund? I think that's what his name is? I don't know, it sounded hard to spell. But he was nice. Seemed to understand that we were, are? Having a hard time.

  You wouldn't believe how crazy it was to get here.

  Where ever here is.

  Zunair was driving because we were going to a place that had ice cream for dinner. I know we shouldn't be having ice cream for dinner, but I just really wanted it, and since we were on a school trip, I figured I could get a small treat.

  Anyway, we were all piled into Zunair's car when this thing, I don't know what it was, appeared out of nowhere. And then Zunair drove off the road, and we were up in a tree like in Jurassic Park! But luckily, no one threw up. We had to get out of the tree the same way, though, cause Zunair's jeep was nose down too. But we definitely weren't in Kansas anymore. I could tell because a blue squirrel was looking at me when I got out of the tree, and sure, there might be blue squirrels back home, but this one was the size of a dog, and it was bright, bright blue.

  Zunair freaked out about his car for a while, and Riley took charge. She said that we needed to find civilization so we could get checked out at a hospital and call our parents and let them know what happened. Willow said we should try to climb back up to the road, but we couldn't find it when we looked around.

  But we definitely went off a cliff, so why couldn't we find the road? Or at least the cliff that the road was on?

  After a while, I wasn't the only one who noticed the blue squirrels. Reese tried to pet one cause they were just hanging out right next to us, and it tried to bite him! Then the others started chittering angrily at us too! And we ran away, even though Zunair was still freaking out about his jeep.

  Riley said we could send a tow truck or something back for it when we got to a town. Zunair asked how they were going to get it out of the tree, and Riley told him not to worry cause it would probably have fallen out of the tree well before then actually.

  Riley led the way, I don't think she knew where she was going any more than the rest of us, but I think it was better than staying put.

  Eventually, we found a dirt path that I thought was someone's driveway, a really long driveway. But it was actually a road to a town.

  Leafhaven was mostly short little shacks that all seemed very round. We wandered into a little open area in the middle of the village that was actually, like, the gathering place of the town.

  I'd wandered over to a poster board with some weird posters and stuff on it when some people wandered in too.

  I don't know what happened exactly, but the next thing I knew, Riley was yelling at someone, and they were yelling back, and then she, Willow, and Zunair all got arrested. I don't think the other two did anything other than trying to help. But I guess that's enough to be arrested around here.

  Reese, Grace, and I tried to argue with the guards arresting them, but they said that if we didn't want to be arrested, too, we should keep our mouths shut and talk to the mayor in the morning. So that's what we're going to do.

  Luckily the guy in charge, who's not the mayor? Offered to let us stay in his home on account of the fact that there aren't any inns here. It was very nice of him, though, even if we don't know how, why, or what's happening.

  Tomorrow we're gonna talk to the mayor, and then maybe we'll be able to go home as soon as possible.

  It's really weird here, and I want to go home. I hope you're not too worried, and I hope this letter gets to you soon. Even though I know the post office normally takes, like, forever to get anything anywhere. Email is a lot faster, but I haven't seen anyone with a phone or computer since we got here. Grace says she thinks it's like this weird type of anime that she really likes. I don't know how to spell it, though. But she was telling me about it when Reese stopped and told her to stop freaking me out. He said we probably just gotta go back to the tree the car was in and climb out of this place that way.

  I don't know how that'll help, but hopefully it does.

  We gotta get Riley, Willow, and Zunair out of jail first.

  I miss you.

  Hopefully, we'll be back before you even know we're missing. This letter will just be silly for us to read together later.
