Chapter 40– Breakaway
A puff of a cigarette.
“Hhah.” Romulus sat shirtless on a King sized bed as his body was caressed by a beautiful woman. Romulus twiddled with the cigarette smudged in between his index and middle finger— eventually it froze and crumbled into ice.
“Oops..got lost in thought.” Romulus got up from his bed and walked out the room.
*Where the hell is Aurelian? I want to go drink..*
…
“Everybody ready to go?” Naomi looked at the deathslingers.
Imaez’s head was turned to his side, his hand steadied on the blade of Hyades.
Marie moved a cloak around. “Yeah, I’m ready.”
Lloyd and Falcon squatted down.
“You know it..” Falcon smirked. Lloyd’s face remained expressionless.
“Let’s get a move on then.” Naomi pointed at Falcon. “You already know what to do!”
Falcon’s hands spread out. He clapped them together— suddenly a lasso of light broke out. The lasso strapped itself onto the waists of the Deathslingers, holding them tight as they elevated. Falcon’s eyes became focused as his pupils grew smaller.
“Don’t mind me— gonna show off a bit..” Falcon grinned.
wuush! The Deathslingers took off.
Falcon’s Lasso of Light was not heading to the ruins of Archaia, instead, he decided to circle the Earth.
*Faster..!* He clenched his fists and accelerated even further.
“I feel like,” Marie covered her mouth. “PUKING!”
In just around three seconds, his Lasso of Light circled the circumference of the Earth 24 times.

“Alright, let me stop.” Falcon steadied his lasso into the stratosphere. Marie concentrated a sphere of wind around the Deathslingers’ heads to keep the group a supply of oxygen as they slowly headed out of the planet.
Eventually, they would overview the continent that birthed the empire of Laveton— Maryen.
Maryen is a continent that is severed from the rest of the world, due to its geographic positioning, leaving it at a secluded area where rarely any islands reside. Most boats that attempt to travel to Maryen meet hurricanes, natural disasters, whirlpools. As if God forbade the rest of the world from entering Maryen.
Falcon looked at Maryen. Its size was large, roughly around three million square miles, as each side of the continent had a specific biome.
The north encompassed a jungle, the south encompassed a desert, the west a forest, and the east, snowy mountain range.
The central— where Laveton was first founded, was simply grassland.
Imaez pointed his finger at a desert.
“There, that’s the ruins of Archaia. If we enter the desert, go a little bit east we will reach the ruins and see a village nearby.”
Naomi looked at Marie with a confused face. “Marie, we’re in space… how’s your wind circle thing working and not getting dispersed?”
Marie smiled and put a finger up, as if she was in a fictional cartoon.
“So, what I’m doing is making a mini atmosphere in your sphere. Basically, I’m adding pressure, constantly changing the temperature, and balancing the oxygen and CO2 levels. That’s why it’s becoming translucent.” She wiped sweat. “It’s not easy though, if Falcon were to make us any higher, I could lose control. It’s all about your energy control.”
Lloyd sighed— “Let’s hurry it up now. Falcon let’s go.”
“Alright…! Here, I.. go!”
beaaam! The Deathslingers went down to the Earth in an instant.
Falcon slowed his speed down dramatically to prevent a destructive blast onto the planet, hitting the ground hard but not too hard.
A field of dust. They coughed as Marie cleared it with wind.
Imaez got the sand out of his eyes as he looked at pillars.
“It’s like it’s from a painting..”
A group of large pillars, made from marble. A statue stood in the middle of the pillars, as if it was a life-sized giant. Every detail mimicking the exact characteristics of the human body.
“These were the Archaians..?” Marie’s eyes gleamed.
Lloyd looked behind himself to see a village.
“Looks like that’s our rest point, come on guys.” Lloyd walked through the sand.
…
The starry sky was the only source of light hitting a hooded man.
His footsteps walked across the cobblestone path as he reached a metal gate. His eyes filled with resolve and his fists bulging with veins.
A woman jogged and yelled— “Adam!”
Vinast wore a tank top and a pair of shorts. She had seen him leave the headquarters and followed him immediately.
“Adam… where are you going?” Vinast asked concerned.
“I’m no longer a part of the military. I resign.” Adam didn’t look at her, he opened the metal gate fully.
“Adam, please just wait..! Can’t you talk to me about it?”
Adam sighed. “Nothing can make me change my mind— the empire is filled with corruption. You cannot change it from the inside, you’ll need to do it from the outside.”
Vinast’s voice cracked. “Okay, so what?!”
“I’ll leave with you!”
Her head filled with her time with Adam in the RAS. Laughter, dinners, card games, conversations. All things that made their bond strong.
Adam turned his body to face her.
“Don’t lie to yourself. You know you can’t leave with me, Vinast. Remember why you’re in the military?”
Vinast whispered. “Because I need the money more than anything, for my family to become nobility..”
“Exactly.” Adam said melancholy. “That’s the messed up part. Nobles survive, regulars don’t. Expectations matter, passions don’t. Everything is built on validation and opinions. I’ll break it.”
Adam turned around as his cape flew in the wind. “I’m forming. The Revolutionaries.”
Vinast stuck her hand out.
“Adam! I’ll wait for you. Until you come back to me!”
Adam’s foot moved forward. He hesitated for a second. He couldn’t take another step.
His body transfigured into the shadows.
Adam breaks away from the Empire.
