Chap 20: Mancor Town.

By focusing all day on gaining one more level to reach level fifteen in Enhanced Senses, I managed to do it.

“Enhanced Senses has reached level fifteen, possible evolution paths are opening…”

“Mana Detection, Physical Detection, Pseudo Domain”

“Just as my grandmother suspected, there are only three options.” After the training, my grandmother told me about the possible options when raising this skill’s rank.

She and my grandfather only obtained Mana Detection and Physical Detection respectively, and she assumed there would be a third alternative that combined both.

“Pseudo Domain… it doesn’t sound bad. I’d like to know the difference compared to true Domain…”

Without hesitation, I chose the third option. My grandmother had already given me permission to choose my skill and simply explain the details to her tomorrow.

The world feels different. Now I can sense every object around me, roughly within a diameter of fifteen meters.

It’s a fantastic ability. It feels as if I’m looking in every direction without needing to use my eyes. I can’t distinguish colors or materials; I simply know what exists within my pseudo domain. That small delay between my mind and body when using the skill is gone.

With every step, the world opens up to this new perception. I could instantly recognize if someone entered my domain while it’s active. I feel a slight mental drain when using it, but it’s not an obstacle to keeping it active for long periods. If I level it up further, there will come a time when I can use it twenty-four hours a day.

I continue testing the skill, running around the training room, then using Lightning Step with it, and I have no issues with my reactions. THIS IS AMAZING! I can fight multiple opponents without fear of surprise attacks or blind spots.

“I’m ready to go to Mancor tomorrow.” I’m going to fight my first monsters. I’m no longer as nervous thanks to my grandmother’s words and this new skill. I need to take that fear and turn it into my strength.

I would have liked to obtain a skill to control my emotions and nerves. I’ve been trying for the past two days without success. I’m very close to getting it, I know it. I just need one more push—maybe putting myself in a risky situation will help me cross that line.

With the remaining hours, I decide to practice controlling my Imra. Of all my abilities, it’s the least developed. I need to focus on it more until I’m satisfied.

Time passes quickly, and it’s time to sleep. Not before eating something, though. I’ve developed a taste for eating; it’s when I feel the most relaxed. I’d love to have more of an appetite for desserts, but I can’t let myself become too fond of sweets.

The next day, during my training with my grandmother, I told her what had happened. She was very happy and congratulated me. When the training ended, she told me about my next plans. After lunch, I need to go to Mancor and meet Randy, the head of the guards.

“It’s my first time going to Mancor…”

My grandmother showed me the way, and I’m now walking toward the other village. I shouldn’t encounter any danger along the road.

Just as I thought, I didn’t encounter any monsters or trouble along the way. Now I need to find Randy…

This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.

Without thinking too much, I started walking around the village, which is quite small. It shouldn’t be a problem if I arrive a few minutes late.

The people are lively and cheerful. Everyone greets each other very familiarly; it’s quite pleasant.

Some people stare at me for a few moments with confused expressions. I can see curiosity shining in their eyes, but for now no one has asked my name or where I’m from. They keep looking back after I’ve passed them, something I can tell thanks to my domain.

I arrived at the construction site of a new tower on the city wall. Judging by the foundation, it will be larger compared to the ones I’ve seen before.

All the workers are moving rocks and large pieces of wood. Maybe because I was staring for too long, someone called out to me.

“Kid, do you want to help? If you work hard, they can give you decent pay and meals.”

I wasn’t completely sure if he was talking to me or someone else. I looked to the sides, but there wasn’t another child nearby.

I was thinking about how to refuse politely and casually at the same time, but before I found a good response, he continued speaking.

“Don’t be shy. You’re not the first kid to come help at construction sites, and it’s always good to have an extra hand, even if it’s a little one.”

Torn between explaining that I was looking for Randy or simply saying I had stopped to look around, I saw him walking toward me. Everything happened within a few seconds.

“Come on, I can introduce you to the foreman, and he can tell you how you can help. Extra money will be useful for your family.”

I gave up on refusing. The curiosity of being in another village and meeting new people was too strong. Randy will understand if I explain it later. I’m a kid, and kids tend to be curious.

We entered the construction site and went to see the foreman. They only asked for my name and whether I had any experience doing anything. Since I lack any kind of experience, they simply sent me to move some rocks and wood with the others.

“Maki, don’t overexert yourself by carrying too much just to impress people. Knowing your limits will help you live longer.”

Edd seems like a very good person. He got me work and gives advice without expecting anything in return.

“Thanks, Edd. I trust my physical strength quite a bit. I can carry as much as anyone else.”

Edd burst into laughter and encouraged me to try. Just as I said, I did it. I picked up some very large rocks that should have been impossible for a child like me to carry. Edd almost fell backward when he saw me lifting the rock without any effort.

The body of an Advanced Amethyst is quite strong after all.

After almost an hour of transporting materials, it’s time for lunch. Today’s meal is a meat stew. It looks really good, and I wasn’t wrong. The taste is a solid 7.5.

Just a few minutes before returning to my new temporary job—which I only planned to do for another hour—I saw several people wearing guard uniforms approaching.

They went straight to the foreman. I could see his eyes widen in surprise as he looked around until they finally landed on me. Looks like the fun is over.

He stood up and ran toward us. His actions surprised all the workers; everyone stopped eating to see what was happening.

“Young Master Maki, I hope you can forgive me. I had no idea about your identity. I only offered you that bit of work because Edd asked me to. I would never have you do this kind of labor, the son of Lord Jarrid.”

Everyone around me stared at me with their mouths open, especially Edd, who even dropped his fork after hearing those words.

I began to hear people whispering about me, about my eye color being identical to my mother’s, and they started connecting my great strength to me being the Baronet’s son.

“Don’t worry, foreman. I only did it because I found it interesting and fun. I’m not offended or upset.” I offer a big smile and set my food aside.

My words seem to have reached him, because he started smiling and relaxed enough to stop stuttering.

“It seems it’s time for me to go. Thank you for the opportunity to accompany you. It’s been a pleasant experience, the food is very good, and it makes me happy to know that the people of Mancor are warm and friendly.” I try to sound as noble as possible without losing a casual tone. I don’t want to create tension.

“By the way, Edd, you should get a new utensil to finish your meal. And thank you for getting me my first job.”

I walk toward the guards waiting for me at the dining hall entrance, and thanks to my domain, I can see Edd blinking several times before finally reacting.

“Thank you, Young Master Maki.” I turn back, raise my hand to say goodbye, and smile in a noble and cordial way, just as I’ve been taught all these years.

And so, my first job came to an end, and it’s time to do what I should have done from the very beginning.
