Frightening people to death
Scaring people to death
Shui Hua saw that Wang wanted to hear his own continued story's true or false, and proved that he was thinking of making up a ghost story to scare himself.
Shui Hua said: "I've heard that! It's said that Xi Gongpi also used a trick to catch ghosts at first, the purpose is to make people believe that his Taoist practice has magical power."
"What kind of abacus is he using?" asked Village Chief Wang.
"He had a small tape recorder. For the first few days, he took this tape recorder to the riverbank and played it around, making everyone believe that there were ghostly wails. And then everything else just fell into place!" Shui Hua said.
"Huh? He's facing a powerful ghost, how can he still cast spells? Doesn't he have no magical powers?" The village chief was puzzled.
"This is called telling lies too many times, even she herself believes the lies are true. Under everyone's flattery, she thinks she really has magical powers!" said Shui Hua.
"Let's go, hurry back! Saying these things makes me a bit afraid," said Village King.
"This ghost story is fake, what are you afraid of? I'll tell you a real one!" said Wang from the Water Flower Village.
"I won't listen anymore. I'll send you home!"
"No, you listen. You don't have to listen, kiss me, take me, okay? You can ignore me." Shui Hua bumped him again with her chest.
"Alright, you speak."
"This story I guarantee is true. The story took place in my hometown. The protagonists of the story are two close friends, one named Qingtao and the other Liyun. Both were married from outside villages. Their husbands are neighbors living next door."
The two of them, without any secrets, would even describe in vivid detail how they got intimate with men in bed to each other. Qīng Táo was lucky, her husband was hardworking and considerate. Lǐ Yún was unlucky, her husband was a compulsive gambler and often beat her.
Li Yun often poured out her troubles to Qing Tao.
One day, Qīng Táo gave Lǐ Yún an idea, saying to scare her husband and make him change his ways. Lǐ Yún listened to Qīng Táo's plan and wanted to give it a try.
That day, Li Yun saw her husband coming back from gambling. He was crossing the bridge. After crossing the bridge, it would only take five or six minutes to get home. She called Qingtao back home and took out the rope she had prepared, saying: "I estimate he'll be home in three minutes, I'll start hanging myself, you watch me, if I'm in pain, you hold my feet and push upwards while shouting loudly." Qingtao said: "Don't worry! I guarantee to save you, let you have no life danger." After she finished speaking, she remembered that there was a pot of rice cooking on the stove at home, so she ran back. As soon as she went out, Li Yun kicked over the stool.
Li Yun kicked over the stool and couldn't see Qing Tao, so she panicked. In her panic, her feet moved wildly. Qing Tao ran back just as the rice was done cooking, he picked up the pot and poured out the excess water, then used a spatula to stir the rice before putting the pot on the coal stove and turning down the flame. Just as she finished everything, she heard her husband's crying voice.
She ran over and took a look, Li Yun had already stopped breathing. She was so scared that her whole body was trembling, she didn't dare to speak the truth.
That night, Li Yun found her. Li Yun cried and said 'You said you'd save me, how could you let me die? I don't want to die!' Of course, only Qing Tao could hear Li Yun's ghostly wails. She comforted Li Yun with kind words, saying she hadn't expected such an ending, and begged her not to follow her, scaring her.
However, Li Yun didn't listen and went to find her every night.
You can't take it anymore, escape to your mother's house to hide, who knows, she also followed her to her mother's house.
Finally, Qingtao was frightened into mental illness and also hanged himself to death."
"How can you make up such a ghost story to scare people?" The usually bold Village King, for some reason, had his body trembling slightly.
"You say it's fake, or real. Anyway, I've already entwined myself with you like Li Yun and Qing Tao did. If you don't kiss me, or want me, I'll be just like her, clinging to you even in death!" Shui Hua said, placing both hands on Zhai Wang's shoulders.
The village chief finally understood why he was trembling. When he listened to the story, what he feared in his heart wasn't the ghost, but that the water flower would entwine him like Li Yun's peach and plum blossoms in the story. And now, she had indeed said so.
Zhai Wang was at a loss for words for a moment, his body shaking uncontrollably.
Who knew, Shui Hua stood up and burst out laughing: "Look at you being scared, did you think I was really that cheap? You don't like me, but I'll stick to you till death? I'm not that stupid. Come on, walk me home!" As she said this, she walked forward by herself.
The village chief followed behind her and said, "You wild woman, I originally wanted to scare you with a story, but you told a story that scared me half to death, you really know how to deal with people."
"You're fooling around outside, Xue Er won't deal with you, I'll help him handle it."
"Nonsense!" The village chief simply said three words, no matter how much Shui Hua continued to talk, he didn't bother to respond, and just followed behind her.
"Alright, I'm just a few steps away from home. I won't invite you in for a sit either. If it gets any later, the wild ghosts will come out, you should head back!" Shui Hua said as she turned to head home by herself.
The village chief turned around and walked back. As he walked, he thought about the story that Shui Hua had told him. The two stories were swirling in his mind.
As he walked halfway, the wind blew by, and his hair stood up, his eyebrows opened wide, and he felt a sense of fear in his heart. He quickened his pace. He took a few quick steps and heard what sounded like footsteps following behind him.
The village chief didn't dare look back and just kept speeding up. When he saw his home, he suddenly ran. He rushed back home, immediately closed the door, and called out to Xue'er.
Xue Er was lying on the couch watching TV. She got up and said: "You know I'm pretending to be drunk, right! I'm afraid that if I continue drinking, I'll get drunk... Zheng Shuang, what's wrong with you? Your face is pale and there are sweat beads on your forehead?"
Xue Er helped Zheng Shuang wipe the sweat from his forehead and supported him to lie down on a chair.
"You scared me to death." Zheng Shuang's voice changed.
"You're usually so brave, how did you get scared like this?" Xue'er held his hand.
"On the way, Shuihua told me two ghost stories that were really scary. On the way back, I got more and more frightened as I thought about them, quickened my pace, heard footsteps behind me, and was so scared that I started running..."
"You're scaring yourself. Walking fast, the footsteps have echoes. What kind of ghost story is so scary? You say it again under the light, I guarantee nothing will happen to you. When you heard it, because the light was dim, it naturally sounded terrifying. You speak, I listen, holding your hand." Xue Er comforted him.
Zheng Shuang told the story again, and of course omitted the process of getting wet and warm.
He found the story more and more absurd as he told it.
He said, "How strange! I was actually scared by such a ridiculous story!"
Xue Er smiled and said, "It's not strange. The environment is very important. When you listen to a story, the environment is similar to the darkness in the story, and people unconsciously enter into the plot of the story, their thoughts follow the story, and naturally feel real and believable. You believe that such things exist, so of course you're afraid. People, no matter how calm they are, have times when they lose control, it's not strange."
"Xue Er, are you afraid of ghosts?" Zheng Shuang asked.
Xue Er looked at Zheng Shuang and said: "I'm afraid. I'm afraid of people dressing up as ghosts. People scare each other, scaring each other to death."
