Chapter 31:”Orir Great Forest Magic Training – Day 1, Noon”

The first day of magic training began.

The goal of the first day is to get used to the forest first. While conducting marching training, we receive explanations from the supervisors about plants, mushrooms, small animals, etc., growing around there. Since it is knowledge necessary for the survival training the next day, everyone was listening earnestly.

Conducting such military-like training is due to the school's philosophy of nurturing mages who can operate even in times of emergency. Thanks to the policy of creating usable mages, not just book-smart ones, I was also able to acquire quite practical magic. It was fortunate.

Pointing at a large animal visible in the distance through the trees, Alice asked.

  "What is that? That animal."

It walks on four legs and has an atmosphere somewhat similar to a wild boar. I, who knew about that thing to death, answered.

"Official name: Rhinos Biliganda. Commonly known as Rhinos. As you can see, it's a ten-meter class large herbivore with two large horns on its forehead."

  "Heeh."

"It's docile as long as you don't approach its territory, so it's okay. However, be careful never to provoke it because it has strong magic resistance."

Alice brings her face closer as if impressed.

  "You're knowledgeable."

"Because I carelessly approached one and almost got killed before..."

The fear of that time revived in my mind, and I shuddered just a little.

That was about four months after I started training with Inea-sensei. Actually at that time, I seriously prepared for death. Of all things, it seemed to be raising a child, and its rage was extraordinary.

Their sense of camaraderie was also strong, and I was chased around the forest by about five of them for a full two hours. Even if I wanted to use Qi swords, I was too scared to get close, and in the first place, since I was the one at fault for carelessly approaching, I hesitated to cut them.

I tried becoming a woman and using magic for containment, but it didn't work at all because of their high magic resistance. Running around with Qi reinforcement while dripping tears and snot, finally I dove into a lake and swam away.

  "Such a thing happened!?"

To Milia asking with a surprised face, I nod.

"Yeah. Come to think of it, there was a time before when Inea-sensei threw me into an unknown forest with teleportation magic. Seeing that guy reminded me. Thinking about it carefully, it couldn't be anywhere but this place."

In short, it means I had already finished contents equivalent to a part of the training plus alpha long ago. So I understood now, albeit belatedly, that that was why Inea-sensei was saying nonchalant things like 'have fun'.

Walking in a group, eventually a small incident occurred. It seems a guy who got carried away and went off the path carelessly stimulated a Catch-Me nest. He ran back here being chased by a large number of them.

Catch-Me is an insect very similar in ecology and size to a bee, and the needle attached to its butt has poison. If they rush into us as it is, damage will extend to other people too. It's dangerous if we don't deal with it.

Then, Alice steps forward and tries to intercept.

"River of fire. Swallow that one in a torrent and burn it to nothing. [Vollias]—"

"Idiot! Don't use fire in a place like this!"

Certainly fire is effective against insects, but there is a fear of causing a forest fire. When I stopped her in a panic, Alice, noticing her carelessness, stuck out her tongue pero.

  "Ah! Tehehe."

Even during that time, the swarm of insects was approaching, and the surroundings were in an uproar. There is no longer a moment's delay. I have to do it instead. Since there are people around, let's go with the chanting formula.

"Blow away. Spiral wind. [Falactor Spiral]."

It is a magic aimed at scattering the target by adding rotation to the intermediate wind magic [Falactor]. Originally it has no lethality, but if it's small insects, they can be killed efficiently by the wind pressure when scattering.

Unlike [Rafal] or [Rafalus], it's not a blade of wind, so it won't accidentally hurt the person being chased or the surroundings. As aimed, the swarm of Catch-Me was blown away, and all died cleanly.

Sighs of relief and sparse applause rose from the surroundings, perhaps because it was a vivid skill. Alice, who was watching from the side, jumped at me happily.

  "Ooh! Another arranged magic, huh!"

  "Well yeah."

Because I've done arrangements many times. When I said it smoothly as if it were natural, she grinded me with her elbow saying "Acting cool. You little~". While watching the state of me and Alice like that, Milia mutters deeply.

Unauthorized content usage: if you discover this narrative on Amazon, report the violation.

"As I thought, the magic declaration differs depending on the person, doesn't it?"

"Because how to visualize is different for each person~," Alice responds.

A declaration is words added before the magic name to fix the image of the magic to be used. By this, magic failures due to image errors or unclearness decrease. If it's the one I used just now, 'Blow away. Spiral wind' corresponds to that. Certainly now that you mention it, individuality comes out depending on the person in this part.

"What do you say in your head for [Falspeed]? Mine is 'Wind of godspeed. Power'. Because I want an image as fast as possible."

"Is that so. Mine is 'Accelerate', though."

When I answered nonchalantly, Milia laughed as if slightly amazed.

"As expected, one of the developers is dry, isn't she?"

"For magic, isn't it enough to just say or think the minimum of what to do and the effect?"

It was my frank impression on declarations. Actually, if there is just that, I can knead the image firmly, and there is no failure. So for me, long phrases seemed nothing but waste.

But there, Alice inserts a rebuttal with an unconvinced look.

"But then there's no atmosphere. Mine is probably 'Wind. Grant me that speed like a gale'."

It was strangely funny to me that she declared it with a triumphant face like it was quite natural. Including the magic she was about to do earlier, and this.

"I understood that Alice is unexpectedly Chunibyo (Middle School Syndrome)."

"What. That Chunibyo. I don't know the meaning, but you're making fun of me, right?"

"Fufu. Sorry sorry. It's not weird particularly."

  "That's right. Geez."

This world has this world's common sense. Comparing with that, it's probably not weird or anything. But saying it with a straight face is a little Chu-kusai (cringe/edgy) after all. Haha. Well, I can't say about others. If I could use something like magic sharply, I would want to act cool a little too.

After the march ended, we arrived at the planned camping site and pitched tents, and we had free time for a while until dinner. The three of us decided to stroll within a range where we wouldn't get lost together.

Around us, the leaves of trees soften the sunlight, and gentle light is pouring in. Trees and plants are rooting everywhere, and the foothold is rugged or slimy, quite bad. And occasionally, cries of insects and beasts are heard.

I couldn't relax much during group action, but doing forest bathing leisurely like this feels quite refreshing. Meanwhile, by chance, we found something very good.

A huge tree was standing in front of us. The trunk has width such that we could barely reach around if the three of us held hands and spread out. Looking up, far overhead, about ten round fruits covered in golden skin are growing.

"Amazing. Isn't that a Gopple fruit?"

  "Gopple, you mean that!?"

"That's the one called the King of Fruits, right?"

Normally it's a high-class item that only the upper class even among aristocrats can eat. According to the pictorial book in the magic library, it seems to have a very sweet and juicy taste. I didn't think I would see one in a place like this.

"I'll go pick just three quickly. Let's eat them at night."

"Sounds good! But isn't it hard to climb up to there?"

  "It's dangerous if you fall."

  "It's okay."

Certainly, the fruit seems to be attached firmly enough that it doesn't seem likely to be dropped by the breeze magic [Falleaf]. Besides, if I use magic stronger than that poorly and hurt the tree even a little, it's bad.

Because it is said that this tree has emotions. It was written in the book that if it gets hurt even a little by someone trying to pick the fruit, it gets angry and instantly makes the fruit taste bad. So normally, you can't get it unless you work hard to climb the tree, but...

It was good to remember it for a time like this.

  [Flight Magic].

Using anti-gravity magic and wind magic in combination, I floated up softly. Alice and Milia are surprised with their eyes wide open.

  "What is that!? That magic!?"

  "What is that, really!?"

I see. Come to think of it, I haven't shown it yet.

  "It's Flight Magic."

"Isn't that amazing! Teach me later!"

"I want to try it too!"

The two with eyes shining sparklingly. After all, flying in the sky by oneself seems to be quite attractive. Just unfortunately, this magic is exclusive to people with Magic Power values of mine or Argus's class...

"Of course I'll teach you how to do it but... If it's Alice or Milia, maybe your Magic Power value is not enough. Actually this, it has quite bad fuel consumption."

When I honestly explained that the usage is limited even if you have Magic Power comparable to mine, the two were blatantly disappointed.

  "What~. Too bad."

"Since you haven't taught us until now, I thought it would be something like that anyway."

While floating in the air, I had no choice but to smile wryly. Reality is quite harsh. I hope someday everyone will be able to fly in the sky regardless of the size of Magic Power.

By the way, I didn't fly to the Great Forest, but came riding Aln. Of course, the biggest reason is that I wanted to go with the two, but simply that my Magic Power wouldn't last to fly that far was also a very modest reason.

After all, for a human to fly in the sky in the flesh seems to be quite unreasonable. Using this completed magic, I thought again that it is much more rational to borrow the power of those who can fly from the beginning. As expected, the predecessors of this world were correct.

It is a luxury allowed only to those with especially high Magic Power, and normally it can only be said to be a kind of defective magic. Even if someone had developed it, there might not have been value to bother writing down such magic for posterity. I hardly use it in actual combat either, but that is also solely due to the bad fuel consumption.

Well, there might come a time when I'm in trouble if I can't fly, so I think it's okay to prepare it as an option. Combining dream-like effects with practicality that is nothing more than a dream after all, exactly a magic of romance. I love this magic.

I flew up quickly, reached the fruits, and picked them one by one carefully. The fist-sized fruits were shining sparklingly like jewels.

Even after that, I inadvertently find food from places hard to notice. It's a habit from trying to survive desperately when I was abandoned here and there by Inea-sensei. Mushrooms, flower nectar, or hunting small animals.

Today's dinner was supposed to be experiencing bad portable rations for soldiers, if I recall correctly. Only the group of us three seemed to be having an excessively luxurious dinner.

"With Yu here, tomorrow's survival training will be a piece of cake."

"It won't be training for us, so maybe it's better to have you just watch without doing anything."

"That's right. If there's anything we don't understand, teach us."

In this manner, I became treated completely as a survival teacher. Suddenly, certain words leak from my mouth.

  "Survival is justice."

  "What's that?"

To Alice making a dubious face, I answered while feeling a catch somewhere.

"I feel like someone said such a thing long ago."

Actually becoming a FabL, I understood, but survival ability to survive in any harsh place is essential. I'm biting into its importance enough to almost join the Survival Cult.

Though, I want to choose what to eat at least. After all, going for snakes or bees calmly is... maybe not for me. I don't know why this popped into my mind.

By the time dinner ended, the sun had set completely. By the way, the Gopple fruit was more delicious than any fruit I have eaten on Earth. It deserves to be called the King. It was so good I wondered if it was okay for such a fruit to really exist.

When we were relaxing holding our full stomachs...

"Now then. Won't you join my modest plan?"

Milia, who had been preparing for a long time, smiled happily.
