Hundreds of ships flew out of the cavernous hold of the waiting Heighliner, and the large planet appeared within everybody's vision, its glow radiating a deep orange hue, lighting up the space around it.
"Wow..." Jack muttered, staring at the planet taking it all in.
His communicator sent a message.
"Arrive at the Hatch," Jack muttered as he began walking towards it.
"Space travel is so interesting," Jack muttered, remembering back to how, at one moment, he was looking at the distant Caladan, the next he was looking at Arrakis.
Walking at a relaxed pace, Jack arrived at the large dock area within the frigate.
Glancing around he found Duke Leto and Jessica had already arrived along with the other people that would descend behind the Atreides family including the ceremonial pipers and the maids wearing outfits similar to Jessica with their whole faces covered in a sandy yellow shawl that strecthced a few meters in length.
Men with armour were standing in line, prepared.
Gurney occasionally glanced at a little book he held within his hands.
'Everything is as it is in the movie, except Thufir did not go to Arrakis in advance and directed all preparations from Caladan, ' Jack thought to himself as he glanced at Thufir who was standing parallel to Gurney, positioned a little behind Duke Leto and Jessica.
Jack walked past the soldiers and arrived beside Duke Leto.
The low hum of the frigate sounded continuously as it kept descending on Arrakis.
The hum lasted for around 15 minutes before a loud thump resounded and the ground shook a little.
The large gates of the frigate opened slightly, and a loud hiss followed as the pressure held within the ship escaped.
Glancing around, the Soldiers activated their shield belts. Continuous buzz resounded behind Jack as everybody behind Paul activated the tool.
The gate began to lower at this moment.
Jack squinted a little as the bright sunlight immediately filled the relatively dark dock room of the frigate.
The large gate continued to descend as dry winds rushed into the dock carrying sand with it.
The Ceremonial Piper stepped forward in front of everybody as he started playing the ceremonial music from his bagpipe, signifying the arrival of House Atreides.
He stepped aside, leaving space for the house to march forward onto Arrakis.
Duke Leto took a deep breath.
If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.
Glancing at Jack, he nodded with a solemn expression, his hand reaching out to grasp Jessica's hand.
"The sand ignites the lungs," Gurney said.
Duke Leto nodded slightly as he began moving forward. Jessica walked by his side while the two housemaids held the ends of the long shawl.
Jack walked by Leto while the soldiers standing behind Gunrey and Thufir followed behind.
The heat was the first thing that hit him, not warmth, like the air itself was pushing him away. Then the smell reached him. Spice. Faint but unmistakable, carried on the dry wind.
"So familiar..." Jack muttered.
Due to the landing of the full force of House Atreadis fleets mixed with the dry winds, it had caused a mini sandstorm making visibility very low.
Glancing around, the heat and the smell seemed to pull him back into his visions for a moment.
"Paul Move!" Gurney's voice reached Jack's ear, snapping him out of his daze.
With rhythmic marching they stepped foot on Arrakis, but not a single shred of joy was visible on anyone's face.
Jack glanced around and saw rows of soldiers lined up holding up the flag of House Atreadise.
Reaching the end of the carpet, standing there was Duncan with a few soldiers behind him.
"Hello Duncan," Jack stepped forward and was going to shake Duncan's hand, but Duncan enthusiastically stepped forward and hugged Jack.
"Welcome Paul, it's been a while," Duncan said with a laugh.
Jack was caught slightly off guard but quickly maintained himself.
"My Lord" Duncan bowed slightly towards Duke Leto.
"My Advanced team has mostly cleared out Arrakeen, along with setting up preliminary routes out of Arrakeen and setting up basic holds and resource points," Duncan updated.
"Follow me," Thufir said as he began leading Jessica and Jack towards a prepared ornithopter.
Walking to a separate area through the mini sandstorm, sand kept hitting his body as he walked through it. Jack heard distant shouts,
"Lisan al-gaib!"
"Lisan al-gaib!"
"Lisan al-gaib!"
...
Glancing towards the fremen surrounding the area Jack watched as they exclaimed, pointing towards him.
Their bodies and faces were completely covered, the only feature visible was their glowing blue eyes.
Jack practically ignored them as he followed Thufir along with Jessica towards the ornithopter surrounded by soldiers to ensure absolute safety.
"Just ignore them, they follow their old masters' rules still, Mandatory attendance, that's Harkonnen love out there," Thufir said as he stepped aside slightly, allowing Jessica and Paul to walk into the ornithopter utilizing the extended ramp.
"You have to avoid the sun, the heat can kill in this place," Thufir said as he removed his hat from his head.
Jack glanced outside and saw Duncan, Leto following Gurney as they walked towards the large squads of soldiers standing at attention beside extremely large frigate ships.
"Atreadis!" Gurney shouted with a pump of his hands towards the air.
"Atreadis!" x 100, the soldiers loudly chanted the name, their shouts resounding through the skies, easily drowning out the Lisan al-gaib chantings.
The gates to the ornithopter closed, and the windows tinted dark enough to provide relief from the sun.
Jack let out a sigh as he relaxed within the ornithopter.
The sound of fluttering was heard as the ornithopter they were in, along with a dozen others nearby, lifted off the ground.
The flapping of the copter wings created a large dust storm as they lifted off the ground.
Within the ornithopter.
Jessica glanced at him and spoke.
"They were pointing at you. Do you understand what they mean?" Jessica asked.
Jack was silent for a moment, glancing at Jessica as she unveiled her scarf, revealing traditional Atreadis jewelry covering her face.
"No I don't know what it means."
"Lisan' Al Ghaib, the voice from the outer world, it's their name for messiah, it means the Bene Gesserit have been successful at their work here," Jessica said.
"You mean successful at planting unnecessary superstitions?" Jack asked with a slight frown.
"Planting the way forward, Paul, these people have waited for centuries for their messiahs, they see you, they see the signs," Jessica said with conviction.
Jack simply nodded, a slight frown hung on his lips.
'I must avoid even getting close to the idea of Lisan al-gaib.'
