After they finish dinner, Lee needs to use the restroom; while inside, he hears someone approach the cubicles, and he can hear them open every single one. They try pushing his door, but as it’s locked, he sees by the person’s shadow that they bend down; however, as they have opened every cubicle door, he keeps quiet.
Then he hears the main door being locked, followed by the ringing of a call.
Then a male voice is heard in English. “Hello, you have reached the main desk of the Office; how can I be of assistance?”
“Hello, I would like to know if there are any rats on my line.” Lee hears a female voice; at first, he is wondering what a woman is doing in the men’s toilets, then if it could be an alien with a soft voice.
“Just a moment while I check for you, Miss,” the male voice is heard. After a few beeps are heard coming from the call, the male voice continues. “No, Miss, there are no rats, only hounds; may I take your name, please?”
“Yes, the guard dogs are normal; I am Delta of the Trydens,” the female voice says, and this time Lee recognises it as Dameetria, Fionna’s sister.
“Hello, Delta, how may the Office be of assistance?” asks the male voice.
“I have a report that might be of the interest of the Boss Junior the Third; is he in?” asks Dameetria.
Then from the call comes a new male voice, this one slightly more mature. “This is the Boss; what could have happened that you would contact the Office on your break week?”
“It’s regarding Lee Watson,” says Dameetria, her voice trembling.
“I’m listening,” says the male voice that identified as the Boss.
“I have just met him; he is capable of incredible things,” says Dameetria. “I have sent a photo of something he made.”
“Are you sure he made this? It looks like a priceless antique,” says the Boss.
“Yes, I am sure; he did it in around two minutes, right in front of me,” Dameetria says.
“And where is this keychain right now?” inquires the Boss.
“It’s in my possession,” Dameetria says, then adds, “He gifted it to me after having given one identical to my sister; it turns out that she was one of the nurses in charge of looking after him while in his coma.”
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
“Understood,” says the Boss. “Keep it for now; once you are back, I would like to examine the keychain myself.”
“Affirmative, but there is more,” Dameetria says and, after a pause, she says, “It looks like on the space-time since he left the hospital until now, he has managed to learn Portuguese.”
“Okay, I will have someone investigate this,” the Boss says, and he would have continued if not for Lee to sneeze.
Thinking fast, Lee puts his earphones on and opens the music app and a game on his phone, then flushes the toilet and exits the cubicle while looking down at his phone playing the game.
Then, when he notices that he is by Dameetria, he lifts his head and makes a confused face, and removing an earphone, he says speaking in Japanese, “Hello, I thought these were the men’s toilets.”
Dameetria, having placed her phone away, says, “They are, but there was no space in the women’s toilets so I used these.” She then looks at Lee and enquires, “Didn't you hear me knocking at the door?” she indicates to the cubicle that Lee was in.
Lee shakes his head. “No, I had my earphones on.” He lifts his hand showing the earphone on it. “And I was also distracted playing my game.”
After washing his hands, Lee exits the toilet and joins his parents and sister back at their table.
“What took you so long?” Kenji inquires of Lee.
“Sorry, I was distracted again playing my game and listening to music.” Kenji looks at Sue then at Lee, but before he says anything, Lee continues. “I know you said that if I did it again you would take the programme that I use to learn Portuguese away, but I promise that I won't do it again.”
Hearing Lee mention the speech programme that he doesn't have—the same fake programme that Kenji used to stop any questions from the waitress—Kenji nods his head. “I hope you are speaking the truth, but even so, I will think until we get home.”
“That is enough; we are in public,” says Sue.
Kenji nods and stands up, and the rest of the family stands up too.
They say their farewell to Fionna and Dameetria and head to the counter to pay.
“Dad, mum, can we take some cakes for breakfast tomorrow?” Lee asks.
“Sure, what do you recommend?” asks Sue.
Heading home, Lee pretends to be asleep; then he opens one eye and sees that Sakura is asleep. So he stands up straight and looks out the car’s window.
Noticing movement, Kenji speaks. “What happened? Did you have a bad dream?”
Lee shakes his head. “I was never asleep; it was so that Sakura would fall asleep.”
“Why would you do that?” asks Sue.
Lee leans closer to the gap between the front seats. “We will need to find a programme that teaches Portuguese.”
Kenji looks at Lee through the mirror. “But you already speak Portuguese.”
“I know, so do the Trydens.” Kenji, startled, jerks the steering wheel, but the car's safety mechanisms prevent the car from leaving its lane; once the car is stable again, Lee continues. “Dameetria, Nurse Fionna’s sister, is from the Trydens.”
Sue and Kenji look at one another, then Sue asks turning around to look at Lee, “Why do you say that, Lee?”
Lee then recounts what happened while he was in the toilet.
Sue then turns around facing the front window, and after pondering for a bit says, “It was very smart of you to use your earphones.”
Kenji nods. “I thought there was something wrong when you mentioned the programme; I was going to wait until we got home to ask you about it.”
Lee nods. “It was the only way I thought of before you asked what I was talking about, as I don't usually take my earphones to the toilet.”
Sue nods. “You did well; in everything today, we are very proud of you, son.”
“Indeed, we are very proud,” says Kenji. “And that food was very good, and I'm glad I was allowed to bring more of that beer,” he adds as, when paying, he bought six more beers to take home.
