ARK-1-chapter-1-The beginning of the end

Everything is destroyed. What was once whole worlds has turned to nothing more than dust. The surviving realms have become hellish landscapes. Billions once lived here, but now only two remain—two people who have fought each other for millions of years.

  "Why did you do this…?"

--I have to defeat her. This is my last chance.

A man in his early twenties, Max, looks exhausted and defeated, yet he attempts a faint, magical gesture. Before him stands a woman with jet-black hair, a cruel expression, and an overwhelming aura.

"When will you understand? You can’t win. Even if your pathetic spell works, it won’t affect me. My power is infinite. I can keep growing stronger—ahaha!"

"You destroyed everything—my world, my friends, my family! Even if the ‘reset’ fails, I’ll kill you!!"

Tears stream down Max’s face, the same tears he’s shed countless times over millennia. He still hasn’t forgiven Ariana.

"You fool? I can take as much power as I want—"

Ariana suddenly freezes mid-sentence. Her body stiffens like ice.

"Did I… do it? Did I kill her…?"

Ariana’s hair fades to brown, her clothes turn ragged, and her face vanishes behind a dark shroud. But Max knows this is exactly what he wanted.

  "What the hell happened…?"

A mysterious woman tries to speak but can’t form words.

  "Get up."

  "Who… are you? What happened?"

  "Please… get up…"

  Everything dissolves into blackness.

  “Was it a dream…?

It felt too real. I remember almost everything, even though it felt like I never slept.

  Yes I understand now

I dreamed of the series [The Final Adventure]—I’d relive that dream every night. I wish I could cross into a magical world like that. It’d be so fun”

The room looks like a typical teenager’s, plastered with posters of Ariana, the character Max fought in his dream, And posters of a character that looks like they’re wearing the same clothes as the ones Max wore in his dream

It looks like Max dreamed of a scene from his favorite series.

. Sunlight peeks through the window, the alarm blares repeatedly, and shouts echo from downstairs.

"Are you awake? I’m leaving for work! Don’t be late to school!"

  "Yeah, yeah, I’m coming!"

Max stumbles downstairs, puzzling over the strange woman who appeared at the end of his dream.

"Weird… The one I fought was Ariana from the show, but that woman at the end… Who was she? Did I see her somewhere?"

"Should I leave the TV on?"

"...Sure, I guess. Not like I have anything better to do."

"You do have something to do—get to school! You’ve been late three days in a row!"

A news report blares, seizing Max’s attention:

** After the Guardians of Creation saved Earth once again, they asked us to relay a message: If anyone thinks they know someone with hidden divine powers or believes they’ve developed such abilities themselves, please send a message to this number... Now, let’s move on to the weather forecast

"What’s their deal? They haven’t aged since I was a kid!"

"Mom, they’re the Guardians of creation. Don’t you know them?,

They don’t die! They exist to protect us!"

"Protect Earth from what? Not like we’re all superheroes here. Whatever—just don’t be late!"

"My whole family mocks them. If only I’d been born into a superpowered family off Earth… No school, no worries—”

Max bolts outside, realizing he’s late.

"Gotta run. If I’m late again, Mom’ll kill me. But I’m starving… I hate school."

He snatches a banana from the fridge and sprints. The 10-minute walk becomes a 5-minute dash. He barely makes it, collapsing at his desk.

  "Congrats, you’re not late today."

  "I ran… Can’t… breathe…"

"Did you see the news? The Guardians of Creation stopped a meteor! So cool!"

  " Sr I Missed it. I Overslept."

"But seriously, you’ve seen their message, right? They posted it again today! Who do you think this ‘mysterious powered guy’ really is? Another member of the Creation Team? "

"I think so… but I’m not sure. They’ve been posting this same message for ages now"

  A girl interrupts:

  "Morning, Max!"

  "Oh, hey, Shizuka."

"Let me guess—talking about the Guardians again?"

  Their friend Takumi scowls:

"Don’t mock them, Shizuka! they saved the world from a meteor that just today . You would have died without them"

"You’re both pathetic. Still worshipping those fairy tales?"

  “Anyway, bye Max?

Shizuka walks to her friends at the other end of the classroom.

"Max, ask out that girl already! She talks to you every day!"

"She’s my childhood friend. We barely speak now. She’s into cooler guys…"

"You’re a pushover. If I were you, we’d already be dating!"

  Takumi suddenly remembers

"Did you lock the hot spring hut Yesterday? The only reason I let you stay after I left is because you promised me you’d lock up—unlike last time you left it open, raccoons got in! My Dad said he’ll ban us if it’s left open again."

"Of course I locked it! I’m responsible!"

--Crap crap , I forgot! I Gotta fix this before class starts…|

  Fuck The teacher's coming

The teacher entered the classroom and began to teach

  she drones on.

  Max raises his hand:

"Can I go to the bathroom?"

  "Class just started."

"I feel like I’m going to explode if I don’t go to the bathroom. Please let me go"

—Ah, I couldn’t believe I said that. As if it wasn’t enough that I wasn’t popular in school,

Max rushes out of the school at top speed. He stilhasn’t recovered from the run from his house and sprints even faster to avoid getting into trouble

—I have to hurry and close the door of the hot springs cabin. I know it’s not worth it, but I can’t give up the feeling of entering such a nice, warm spring. Yes, yes, I’ll make it there and back to class in time. And if not, I’m going to get into a lot of trouble.

He bolts to the forest hut, panting. The woods feel unnaturally bright.

"Almost there… Just lock the door and—"

  Strange noises echo inside.

  "Raccoons? Wild boar? Stay calm…"

He opens the creaking door—and freezes. A stunning, naked woman bathes in the hot spring, her hair black as void.

"This is private. Trespassing is forbidden."

"S-sorry! The natural springs are too hot, but this one’s perfect…"

Her face—it’s the Goddess of Life herself, a Creation Guardian.

  "You’re… the Goddess of Life?"

"Yes. Glad you recognize me,and you're Max, right?""

Max blushes, forgetting why he came here

"You… need to leave. This is private."

"I’ll go soon. You’re rushing to school, aren’t you?"

"How does she know? Can she read minds?"

  The goddess smiles.

"Don’t worry. I won’t cause trouble." She dresses and floats skyward. "I tour these springs in my free time. Thanks for the dip!"

The Goddess of Life flew on her way

  "B-Bye!"

Max began making his way back through the fields, taking the fastest route he knew—through the forest.

"Unbelievable… I met the Goddess of Life—naked! If only I could look at her for just a few more seconds

There's no way Takumi would believe me if I told him. I should've asked to take a picture with her."

"Glancing at his phone, Max realized more time had passed than he thought—he needed to return to school before the teacher grew suspicious."

"Fuck, it's been way too long. gotta get back!"

In the middle of the forest,he spots her again—now anxious.

"Why does she look worried? No time to dwell…"

"What are you doing here? Leave. Now."

A strange hum fills the air

"Run, Max! This is far more dangerous than you think!"

  "What’s happening?!"

"Ordinary humans can’t survive here. Go!"

An explosion tears through the forest, hurling Max into the air,

the explosion created an entire area in the forest without trees.

  "A meteor…?!"

"Smoke clears, revealing a short black-haired girl with glowing blue eyes and a sinister grin.

'Well, well… Hiding here? The New Empire sends their regards. Your days are numbered… hehehe!'"

Max collapses, heart pounding. Smoke burns his eyes. His legs fail, but his mind screams:

  MOVE.
