Chapter 2: Summon and Storm

  Chapter 2: Summon and Storm

Allen nded on the hood of a stranded taxi as bullets splintered the windshield behind him. He’d just completed his first skirmish—caged the Hydra patrol and toppled their drone—and now civilians scrambled, breaths ragged, fear etched on every face.

Allen tapped the edge of his mental HUD. A new notification glowed:

+20 EXP New Skill Unlocked: ? Summon Mob New Quest: Defend Civilians in Midtown Reward: 50 EXP, ‘Enchant Tool’ Skill

Allen inhaled. He’d always loved mobs in Minecraft—zombies, skeletons, spiders. In the game, they were nuisances. Here… they could be allies.

Allen cleared a space in the ruined street, leveled his gaze, and whispered, “Summon Mob.” A swirl of gray-green particles coalesced at his feet. Within moments, a hulking zombie, missing an arm and swaying with jerky motions, stood ready at his command.

The zombie let out a low groan and lumbered toward an approaching Hydra agent who fnked a group of civilians. Bullets spat from the agent’s rifle, but the mob swung its fist, bashing the agent into the storefront. The shooter crumpled, and nearby citizens fled to safety.

Allen’s chest tightened with thrill. “Good boy,” he murmured, watching the zombie hack down the st wrestler of agents. The creature lurched to Allen’s side, awaiting further orders.

A shrill cry split the air. Patterson Pza, two blocks north, erupted in fmes—another Bck Ops strike team was torching cars and using civilians as shields. Allen sprinted, pcing blocks beneath his feet to vault over smashed cars. The zombie trailed behind, groans echoing off shattered gss.

He reached the pza’s center and raised his hands. “Summon Mob!” This time, the air crackled with dark energy, and a skeletal archer materialized, bow drawn and arrow notched. The undead marksman fired: a flurry of arrows ripped through the team’s armored vests, sending operatives sprawling. Civilians pressed against the walls, relief flooding their eyes.

“Not bad for Level 1,” Allen whispered, checking his panel. Inventory now held two summoned creatures, their icons glowing. He grinned and tapped “Break Block.” A barrier formed around the remaining agents, trapping them in a colpsing cage of cobblestone.

Sirens approached again—this time, genuine NYPD backup. Officers in tactical gear stormed the pza, weapons trained on the trapped operatives. A sergeant waved at Allen: “Mister, you helped us clear them. We’ve got it from here.”

Allen nodded, feeling a surge of satisfaction. He’d done more than survive—he’d made a difference, on his own terms.

He crouched to catch his breath as the system panel pinged once more:

+50 EXP Quest Complete: Defend Civilians in Midtown New Skill Unlocked: ? Enchant Tool (Level 1) Avaible Enchantments: Efficiency I, Unbreaking I

Allen smirked. Enchantments would let him amplify his blocks and summons—he was impatient to tinker. He stood and surveyed the pza: smoldering husks of cars, shaken but safe civilians, and the skeletal archer fading into motes of light.

A new line blinked on his HUD: “Mission Briefing: Travel to Stark Tower. Meet NPC: System Guide.”

For a moment, Allen hesitated—Stark Tower meant superheroes, authority, and oversight. He didn’t do authority. But his system guide might unlock higher tiers: crafting weapons, brewing potions, even taming dragons.

The wind shifted, carrying the hum of distant traffic and the echo of grateful voices. Allen took a step forward, blocks materializing instantly beneath his boots.

“All right,” he said, tone half-ugh, half-growl. “Let’s see what this System really has for me.”

With that, Allen strode toward the glowing horizon, every block he pced a promise of power—and every step a challenge to the rules of every realm he would conquer.
