Chapter 30

  Evelyn

  ***

It seems that my actions were a bigger deal than I thought.

“Honestly Evelyn…” Charlotte sighed. “if you were going to do something like that, you should have just punched him!”

Good old Charlotte. Always on my side, even if it meant punching foreign royalty. Not only her, but my other friends Chloe, Nicole, and Olivia nodded in agreement.

  “Sorry I wasn’t thinking straight.” I admitted.

Thinking back on it, I could have very easily slipped by him, but my first thought was simply to escape. And I did so in the most eye-catching way. How troublesome… Looking slightly to my left, I saw Ms.Yuki, Mrs.Griffin’s daughter, and the closest person I have to a personal maid. So, what’s a twenty-something year old maid doing here at school? Easy! She is holding the bribe- I mean, a box of apology cupcakes for the css due to the scare I gave them. Although it’s already too te to stop the letter from the academy from reaching Uncle…

I asked 38 if she would intercept the letter for me, but she said that they already told Uncle about what I did. Hopefully she included the part where I didn’t punch the foreign prince. Either way, I hope that I don’t get grounded. If I do, I might compin. Thinking about it, how would they pn on grounding me if I resisted? Although I’m not as strong as I was back on Earth, as a magical girl I’m still the strongest thing on this world. By the way, what’s this pnet called?

“You can’t let your emotions rule over you.” Charlotte said. “You know my mom told me to keep an eye on you after she heard about it.”

  “Wait, really?” I asked.

“My dad told me that as well.” Nicole said.

“My brother said that he would volunteer to be your knight if he could.” Olivia said.

“My family was also worried.” Chloe added.

Why is everyone worried about me? It does feel nice, but surely they have better things to do, then worry about me, right? Feeling trouble from my right, I gnced and saw the faint outline of 38. It seems like she didn’t like the thought of someone else being my protector. Let’s put her to ease.

“Oh, I’m sure there’s no need to worry.” I said. “We are in school after all. If you forgive my nguage, no one will do anything stupid here.”

“You’re the one who jumped out a window.” Charlotte pointed out.

“Yeah, that was stupid.” Nicole said.

“If what you did wasn’t stupid, then I suppose we’re all geniuses.” Olivia said.

“I should tell my parents that I’m a genius.” Chloe said.

Oh no, I’ve turned them against me. For now, let’s admit defeat.

“Okay, I’m sorry. I was wrong.” I bowed my head.

“Stop bowing your head so easily!” Charlotte bopped me on the head.

“If I apologize you get mad, if I don’t you still get mad!” I compined. “How do I win in this situation!?”

“Don’t. Jump. Out. Windows.” She knocked on my head.

“Okay! Okay!” I waved my hands in defense. “I get it! I’ll only do it if I have to!”

“No! Don’t do it again!” Charlotte said.

“Well I mean-” Chloe started. “If she’s in a building that’s on fire that might be her only option.”

“Yeah, she’s got a point.” Nicole said.

“Aside from escaping a fire, don’t jump out any windows.” Olivia said.

“What if I’m being chased by a killer?” I asked.

“Okay, fires and killers, you're fine to jump out.” Charlotte said.

  “What about Demons?” Chloe asked.

  “And big rats?” Nicole asked.

“How big are the rats?” Olivia asked.

“This big.” Nicole stretched her arms out to be around the size of a dog.

“Yeah, I’d jump out of a window if a rat was that big…” Charlotte nodded.

Yeah, they’re no fun. I often fought some rats like that back on Earth. And just st month I fought some here. I really hate sewer monsters.

That’s odd… In that situation, Evelyn would have spped me, but instead she ran away. No. She jumped out of a window. That’s a bit more extreme than running away. Okay, so maybe I didn’t say the lines right. Hopefully that didn’t ruin the story. For now, let’s find her and apologize. Let’s hurry before the Twin Regents find me. Since the incident, they have been keeping a close eye on me. Now, where could she be…? Oh there she is, hanging out with- OH SHIT THAT’S THE SAINT!

Wait! Is she going to bully her? If so, then all is going as it should. Now, let’s see what she- Oh no they are ganging up on her! I need to save her! Trying my best to not look panicked, I hurried over, half jogging half walking. As I got closer, I heard what didn’t quite sound like fighting, or even scolding. It was rather confusing?

“Yeah, I’d jump out of a window if a rat was that big…” The saint nodded.

What are they talking about? Rather, it looks like I was mistaken. They weren’t fighting at all. Okay, let’s not do anything rash, and politely introduce myself.

“Lady Evelyn!” I called out in a friendly voice.

“Oh.” Evelyn’s shoulders sank a bit.

Standing from her previous position, she gave a light bow, one which was entirely insufficient for greeting royalty, but that’s okay. She’s like that.

“What can I do for you?” She asked, voice ft.

“Truth be told, I was wondering if you could show me around the campus.” I asked.

  A nice innocent request.

“If you want a tour, head to the office and ask them for one.” She said.

“Surely it would be best to get one from a student.” I said.

“Then find someone else.” She said.

Okay, clearly I made a poor first impression yesterday. It’s obvious that she doesn't like me.

“Okay, in all honesty, I want to apologize for yesterday.” I said.

Hopefully she doesn’t hold it against me.

  “Then leave.” She said.

Wow! Okay… She really doesn’t hold back, even with a foreign prince. I’ve got to be honest, I didn’t expect this. Even the saint and those girls were taken aback by her words. WAIT THE SAINT! I need to get rid of the saint! How should I go about doing that?

  “Then Lady Evelyn-” I started.

“Again with that.” She sighed. “Since when have I given you permission to call me that?”

  “I’m sorry?” I asked.

“My title, as Duchess, is Lady Eytell.” She said. “Someone of your status should be well aware of it.”

  “Of course…” I said.

That’s right. In the game, she’s always adamant to always be properly addressed. It seems that I was moving far too quickly. Even after her exile, she refuses to be called anything else. It’s not until te game when she allows anyone to call her any differently. It’s no surprise that she’s annoyed that some stranger, even if I’m a prince, is calling her by her name. Looks like I’ll need to take things slow.

“If you have nothing more to say, then I suggest you find the twin Regents. They would be willing to do what you ask.” Evelyn said, perhaps tired of my silence.

“Yes. Of course.” I said. “Apologies.”

“Keep it in mind.” She said. “And if you have nothing else to say, move along.”

  “Of course.” I said.

Respectfully taking my leave, before her mood got any worse. Well, it seems like she’s acting like she should, so all is good. Now, how can I make her like me? In the game what did she like most? Well, aside from Lloyd, it would probably be extravagant meals. Right, well, I’ll be sure to prepare something for tomorrow. Hopefully then she’ll forgive me…

What a wretched child- Oops bad thoughts! Let’s keep those locked away! Doing my best to push him out of my thoughts, I turned back to my friends.

“Well, that was something huh?” I joked, hoping to put this matter behind us.

“Yes…” Charlotte said. “You really hate him, do you?”

  “I don’t hate him, I just don’t like him.” I smiled lightly.

“If that’s how you treat people you don’t like, I would love to see how you treat people you hate.” Chloe said.

“Oh, I would just ignore them.” I lied, before suddenly remembering. “That aside, I do wish to ask for all of your advice.”

  “Yes, anything!” Charlotte said.

“If we can help, we will!” Nicole said.

“Is it about boys or something else?” Chloe asked.

“If it’s about fashion, I’ve got your back!” Olivia said.

Aw! How sweet. What good friends I have! Seeing them this willing to help, I felt gd that I had them to ask.

“Well, truth be told, I signed up for the css field trip into the woods and I was wondering what was the best way to ask to join someone's group.” I eagerly said. “I don’t want to spend all my time with the teachers after all!”

  Wow! They turned pale fast!

After school, us in the Saint Squad, as we like to call ourselves, found ourselves in an upper css dinner in a terrible mood. Normally being treated to dinner in such a high css establishment rented out would be an amazing event. However, reality has ways of ruining things. This night had two things that ruined our mood and appetite. For one was the person who called us here. The Twin Regents, Lloyd and Lna Rsenr. But it wasn’t just us they invited. Sitting at many other tables were our cssmates who were participating in the forest field trip. Everyone was already in their groups that they were participating with, just like us. And just like us, they were in a terrible mood. The second reason was why we were called here…

“As you all know, we have just been informed of Lady Eytell’s participation in the survival css.” Lloyd said somberly.

Hearing what we already knew, the atmosphere grew worse… Evelyn. Lady Eytell… Far from our original opinion of her, she was not the cruel viliness we had once assumed. Although most of us aren’t reincarnations, we all had assumed that Evelyn was a terrible no good vilin who would torment us for our school life. Funny how after three years of sharing csses with her, our opinions had changed.

To put it bluntly, and rather rudely, Evelyn was considered by many to be our css’s sickly mascot. Obviously we hadn’t told her of this, but it was something we had silently agreed upon. The sickly young duchess, loved by her cssmates, was the mascot of the css. One, which unfortunately, had recently joined the dangerous survival css. For the girl who got sick if she so much as walked too much or even had a bad scare, was attending the well known and dangerous weeks long outdoor event.

The event where one would need to endure simple foods that even commoners like myself avoided. And that was the LEAST WORST of it all. Aside from the food, there were things like, heavy exercise, biting and stinging bugs, poisonous pnts, poisonous and venomous animals. Non venomous animals, both small and rge. Also, DEMONS. Magical Girl Melody may have cleaned out many over the years, but tely she has been active in other kingdoms, leading to an increase of demons here. Yes we will have guards, but we will be training and fighting demons. We will also potentially be EATING DEMONS.

What in the world are her guardians thinking? On what pnet should she be allowed to participate in this event!? Not only that, but because of her own personal circumstances, she is the head of her household! By LAW. Why is she going on this dangerous trip!? I don’t care that her guardian signed off on it! She shouldn’t be allowed to go!

“Not only that, but when I brought the matter to the Reigning Regents, they said, ‘I see nothing of concern. Let the girl have some fun’…” Lloyd added.

The Regents are mad! There is no way this should be allowed! Although none of us said that, it was fairly obvious many of us thought this.

“So, I want to start out with the obvious.” Lloyd said. “Does any group have any space for her?”

““““…”””” None of us spoke up.

  “…” Lloyd lowered his head.

That much was obvious. If things were this easy then there would have been no need for this meeting. What are we going to do now?
